projects would benefit from improved study designs and multidisciplinary collaboration.
The MO-meatocanalplasty is the oblique modification of the M-meatoplasty. The MO-meatocanalplasty was designed to address the superior quadrants of the meatus and the bony canal without the need for a retro-auricular incision. This retrospective analysis was performed to evaluate the long-term results of the MO-meatocanalplasty in patients with a narrow external auditory canal (EAC) with recurrent otitis externa or in patients unable to wear a hearing aid.
Twenty-two ears in twenty consecutive patients who received a MO-meatocanalplasty for a narrow EAC with recurrent otitis externa or the inability to wear a hearing aid were analysed retrospectively. There were no patients included with any type of previous or planned second stage tympanoplasty procedures. A follow-up period of 3years was analysed for postoperative recurrent narrowing, the self-cleaning capacity of the EAC, the recurrence of otitis externa, the inability to wear a hearing aid, change in hearing level and for all types of aesthetical comp with recurrent otitis externa or in patient with the inability to wear a hearing aid.
The objectives of this study are to describe our experiences in endoscopic transcanal management of tympanosclerosis, to explain our surgical approaches to reconstruct the sound conduction system and to analyze the hearing results obtained with our surgical approaches.
A retrospective cohort study, using medical records of 28 cases that underwent endoscopic transcanal tympanoplasty surgery due to tympanosclerosis from January 2016 to January 2020.
Private otology clinic PATIENTS Twenty-eight ears of 26 patients were enrolled into study. Patients were grouped according to Wielinga-Kerr classification and only type II, III and IV patients were included in the study.
Exclusively transcanal endoscopic surgery was performed in all cases. Selleck Spautin-1 Primary goal was to mobilize the affected ossicles by removing the offending TS and reconstruct the ossicular chain. Malleostapediopexy was preferred when attic by-pass procedures were needed. Glass ionemer bone cement was used to reconstruct the ossicular defects.
Preoprst 24h.
Surgical treatment of tympanosclerosis is still a controversial issue. Endoscopic surgery seems a safe technique for the management of tympanosclerosis. Single-stage surgery is possible in most of the cases with a satisfactory hearing result. We speculate that addition of endoscopic view may increase the single-stage surgery ratio.

We tested the acute effect of breakfast (ready-to-eat-cereal [RTEC] and milk) versus (vs.) no breakfast on cognitive function and subjective state in adolescents.
Healthy adolescents (n = 234) aged 11-13years were recruited to take part in this school-based, acute, randomised, controlled, parallel groups trial with two interventions; Breakfast or No Breakfast. The breakfast intervention consisted of ad libitum intake of RTEC (up to 70g) with milk (up to 300ml) administered in a naturalistic school breakfast programme environment. Cognitive function was assessed at baseline and + 70 and + 215min post-intervention in a group-testing situation, similar to a school classroom context. The CANTAB test battery included Simple Reaction Time (SRT), 5-Choice Reaction Time (5-CRT), Rapid Visual Information Processing (RVIP), and Paired Associates Learning (PAL; primary outcome). Data collection commenced January 2011 and ended May 2011. This trial was retrospectively registered at www.clinicaltrials.gov as NCT039790vantage for performance when baseline performance was poorer.
Consuming breakfast has a positive acute effect on cognition in adolescents.

To this aim, we used a language paradigm that allowed us to investigate early ERP components as well as later components, namely the N400 and the late positive complex (LPC). Young and older adults were presented with neutral sentence stems with positive, negative or neutral/semantically-incongruent critical word endings while their electrical brain activity was recorded. There were no effects of emotional valence on early ERP components. Instead, a positivity effect was evident in young adults indexed by reduced N400s for positive sentence endings. Perhaps due to reduced semantic processing abilities, older adults did not show any N400 effect. ERP effects in this group were evident at a later processing stage and took the form of larger LPCs for neutral/incongruent information. Overall, there was no effect of emotional valence on either the N400 or the LPC in older adults. Our data suggest that with age, more effortful semantic processing may deplete resources for emotional processing.Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) were determined in Gymnura altavela liver samples from one of the most impacted estuarine environments in the Atlantic Ocean (Guanabara Bay, Brazil). PCBs were the predominant compounds (91.2%) averaging 6773 ± 4659 ng.g-1 lipid weight (lw). DDT, Mirex, HCH and HCB concentrations were 633 ± 715, 6.2 ± 9.3, 3.4 ± 1.4 and 0.5 ± 0.5 ng.g-1 lw, respectively. Recent DDT input in the estuary was minimum, as verified by the p,p'-DDE/∑DDT ratio (0.67). The prevalence of industrial compounds was highlighted by the ΣDDT/ΣPCB ratio (0.08). A negative correlation detected between disc width and PCBs, Mirex and HCH concentrations may be a consequence of maternal offloading. High POP concentrations in G. altavela liver samples from Guanabara Bay suggests that PCBs, in particular, may pressure the conservation of this threatened with extinction tropical estuarine batoid species.
