The aim of this study was to investigate the association of physical activity (PA) with assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment and pregnancy outcomes among couples seeking infertility treatment.

This prospective cohort study was carried out among 128 infertile individuals (64 couples), entering the infertility clinic for ART procedures. Baseline PA (before entering any treatment) was assessed using accelerometry for both women and men. For every couple the infertility treatment outcomes were recorded.

The couples that required invasive ART procedures such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) spent less time in vigorous PA (-73 min/week per couple, woman + man) than those couples who became spontaneously pregnant after entering the study (
= 0.001). We observed no significant associations between the time spent in physical activities and positive pregnancy test or live birth.

Our results do not support a positive nor negative relation between the time the couples spent in physical activities and the chances of getting pregnant or having a baby among patients seeking infertility treatment. However, couples undergoing invasive ART procedures did less vigorous PA than couples that became spontaneously pregnant, suggesting that PA may interfere with their reproductive health.

Poly(2-(diethylamino) ethyl methacrylate) (PDEAEMA) was grafted on their outer surface and acts as a gatekeeper, followed by subsequent modification of the polymer by cysteine (MSN-PDEAEMA-Cys) and poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate) (MSN-PDEAEMA-Cys-POEGMEMA). The physicochemical properties of these nanocarriers were characterized using scanning and transmission electron microscopies (SEM and TEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The synthesized nanoparticles were well-dispersed with a diameter of ca. 200 nm. The obtained XPS results confirm the successful modification of MSN-PDEAEMA with Cys and POEGMEMA by increasing the peak intensity of C-O and C=O groups at 286.5 and 288.5 eV, respectively. An anti-cancer drug, doxorubicin (DOX), was encapsulated into the fabricated nanoplatform. The DOX release amount at physiological pH of 7.4 was limited (10%), while an accumulation drug release of ca. 35% was accomplished after 30 h in acidic media. The MTT cell line was used to assess the cytotoxicity of the unloaded and DOX-loaded fabricated nanoplatforms. Upon loading of DOX on these nanomaterials, they showed significant toxicity to human liver cancer cells. These results suggest that the prepared nano-structured materials showed good biocompatibility as well, and they can serve as nanocarriers for the delivery of anti-cancer drugs. The number of Canadians with dementia is expected to rise to 674,000 in the years to come. Finding ways to monitor behavioural disturbance in patients with dementia (PwDs) is crucial. PwDs can unintentionally behave in ways that are harmful to them and the people around them, such as other residents or care providers. Current practice does not involve technology to monitor PwD behaviours. Events are reported randomly by nonstaff members or when a staff member notices the absence of a PwD from a scheduled event. This study aims to explore the potential of implementing a novel detector of behavioural disturbances (DBD) in long-term care homes by mapping the perceptions of healthcare professionals and family members about this technology. Qualitative information was gathered from a focus group involving eight healthcare professionals working in a tertiary care facility and a partner of a resident admitted in the same facility. Thematic analysis resulted in three themes (A) the ability of the DBD to detect relevant dementia-related behavioural disturbances that are typical of PwD; (B) the characteristics of the DBD and clinical needs and preferences; (C) the integration of the DBD into daily routines. The results tend to confirm the adequacy of the DBD to the day-to-day needs for the detection of behavioural disturbances and hazardous behaviours. The DBD was considered to be useful and easy to use in the tertiary care facility examined in this study. The participants intend to use the DBD in the future, which means that it has a high degree of acceptance.
Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) metrics can be associated with survival in head and neck cancer (HNC); however, the impact of HRQOL recovery and the relevant HRQOL domains regarding outcome are unclear.

Using a single-institution database, we retrospectively reviewed HNC patients treated with definitive or postoperative radiation therapy between 2013 and 2018. The recovery of individual HRQOL domains were determined by the ratio of the post-treatment to baseline scores. Univariate and Multivariate Cox regression were used to analyze survival outcomes. Principal component analysis was used to adjust for multicollinearity of HRQOL domains.

In 218 HNC patients who received radiation therapy, median follow-up was 24.8 months (interquartile range (IQR) 14.5-32.0). Principal component analysis evaluating the recovery of HRQOL domains revealed two independent principal components (PC), PC1 and PC2. PC1, which received contributions from the functional domains; physical (PF), role (RF), emotional (EF), cOL and the relationship with survival. Future prospective studies may identify patients who could benefit from additional rehabilitation based on PC1 score. The aim of the present study was to study the associations between urine albumin excretion, and a large number of urinary chemokines, cytokines, and growth factors in a normal population. We selected 90 urine samples from individuals without CVD, diabetes, stroke or kidney disease belonging to the Prospective Investigation of the Vasculature in Uppsala Seniors Study (41 males and 49 females, all aged 75 years). Urinary cytokine levels were analyzed with two multiplex assays (proximity extension assays) and the cytokine levels were correlated with urine albumin. After adjustment for sex, body mass index (BMI), estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), smoking and multiplicity testing, 11 biomarkers remained significantly associated with urine albumin thrombospondin 2, interleukin 6, interleukin 8, hepatocyte growth factor, matrix metalloproteinase-12 (MMP-12), C-X-C motif chemokine 9, tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily member 11B, osteoprotegerin, growth-regulated alpha protein, C-X-C motif chemokine 6, oncostatin-M (OSM) and fatty acid-binding protein, intestinal, despite large differences in molecular weights.
