Attention control (AC) is thought to play an important role in the development of inhibitory control (IC) in children, yet there are few longitudinal studies of this association. This study used a prospective parent-child adoption design (N = 361 children) to examine whether maternal warmth at child age 27 months moderated the link between AC during infancy and IC during childhood. Tobit regression analyses indicated that low levels of infant AC at 9 months predicted low levels of IC at 6 years, controlling for birth parent IC, prenatal risk, infant distress to limitations, child sex, and openness of adoption. Adoptive mother warmth at 27 months moderated this association. In the context of higher levels of maternal warmth, the longitudinal association between low AC and low IC was attenuated. Thus, high levels of early maternal warmth may help diminish the effects of extant risk for IC deficits. The current investigation examines the relation between perinatal complications and social anxiety incorporating the potential indirect effect of child temperament. Participants were 149 children 9 to 12 years of age (Mage=9.97, SDage=1.00) screened for behavioral inhibition (BI) and assessed for social anxiety symptoms using parent- and child-report. Participating families also reported on the presence of perinatal complications. Results indicated that children who experienced perinatal complications were higher in BI and social anxiety, compared to children who did not experience complications. Furthermore, there was an indirect effect between perinatal complications and social anxiety via BI. These findings provide further support for the established relation between perinatal complications and anxiety and demonstrate, for the first time, that this relation may be mediated by temperament, setting the stage for longitudinal analyses. Background In health care interventions aimed at increased physical activity, the individual's time spent on exercise is a substantial input. Time costs should therefore be considered in cost-effectiveness analyses. The aim of this study was to estimate the cost of time spent on exercise among 333 primary health care patients with metabolic risk factors receiving physical activity on prescription. Methods Based on a theoretical framework, a yardstick was constructed with experience of work (representing claim of salary as compensation) as the lower anchor-point, and experience of leisure activity forgone due to extended exercise time (no claim) as the higher anchor-point. Using this yardstick experience of exercise can be valued. Another yardstick was constructed with experience of cleaning at home in combination with willingness to pay for cleaning as the lowest anchor-point. Results The estimated costs of exercise time were between 14 and 37% of net wages, with physical activity level being the most importaiew Board in Gothenburg, Sweden (ref 678-14). © The Author(s) 2020.Background The pigeon tick Argas reflexus is a temporary parasite of pigeons. It bites during night hours and lies briefly on its prey, as long as it takes the blood meal. Glutathion When pigeons are not accessible, ticks look for other hosts, invading nearby flats and biting humans. Case presentation We present the case of a woman aged 46 years who experienced severe anaphylaxis during the night which required emergency medical treatment, tracheal intubation and hospitalization in intensive care unit. Kounis syndrome was documented by transient ST depression and elevation of troponin. The allergological work up ruled out hypersensitivity to drugs, latex and foods containing alpha-gal, which is a cause of anaphylaxis. Basal serum tryptase was in normal range (8.63 ng/ml). When questioned about the presence of ticks, the patient brought into view various specimens of ticks that were recognized by an entomologist as Argas reflexus. Conclusions An in vitro diagnosis of allergy to Argas reflexus is currently not feasible because, though the major allergen Arg r 1 has been isolated, allergen extracts are not commercially available. Therefore, the diagnosis of anaphylaxis from Argas reflexus, when other causes of anaphylaxis are excluded, must rely only on history and clinical findings, as well as on the presence of pigeons and/or pigeon ticks in the immediate domestic environment. © The Author(s) 2020.Background Gastric cancer (GC) is the fifth most frequently diagnosed cancer and the third leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Lack of prognostic indicators for patient survival hinders GC treatment and survival. Methods and results Methylation profile data of patients with GC obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database were analyzed to identify methylation sites as biomarkers for GC prognosis. The cohort was divided into training and validation sets. Univariate Cox, LASSO regression, and multivariate Cox analyses revealed a close correlation of a four-DNA methylation signature as a risk score model with the overall survival of patients with GC. The survival between high-risk and low-risk score patients with GC was significantly different. Analyses of receiver operating characteristics revealed a high prognostic accuracy of the four-DNA methylation signature in patients with GC. The subgroup analysis indicated that the accuracy included that for anatomical region, histologic grade, TNM stage, pathological stage, and sex. The GC prognosis based on the four-DNA methylation signature was more precise than that based on known biomarkers. Conclusions The four-DNA methylation signature could serve as a novel independent prognostic factor that could be an important tool to predict the prognostic outcome of GC patients. This potential must be verified in a large-scale population cohort study and through basic research studies. © The Author(s) 2020.Background LncRNA NEAT1 has been identified as a tumour driver in many human cancers. However, the underlying mechanism of lncRNA NEAT1 in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) progression is unclear. Methods The expression levels of NEAT1, GLI1 and miR-34b-5p were detected by RT-qPCR and Western blotting in DLBCL tissues and cell lines. MTT and colony formation assays were performed to examine cell proliferation, while annexin-V staining and TUNEL assays were performed to measure cell apoptosis. The effect of NEAT1, GLI1 and miR-34b-5p on cell cycle-associated proteins was evaluated by Western blotting. Dual-luciferase reporter and RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) assays were employed to investigate the interaction between NEAT1 and miR-34b-5p or GLI1 and miR-34b-5p. Moreover, chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) was performed to demonstrate the interaction between MYC and NEAT1. Results NEAT1 and GLI1 were upregulated while miR-34b-5p was downregulated in DLBCL tissues and cell lines compared to normal controls.
