5-800 ng·mL-1 and 5.0-800 ng·mL-1, low limits of detection (LODs) within 0.75-1.5 ng·mL-1 and satisfactory intra-day and inter-day precisions with relative standard deviations (RSDs) respectively less than 10.6% and 8.6%. Finally, the method was applied for the determination of five FQs in four samples of tap water, milk, honey and chicken, and good precision with RSDs of 0.5-9.5% and acceptable recoveries (73.8-114.3%) were obtained.
The present study aimed to compare sympathetic hemodynamic effects in masticatory and limb muscles in response to different stressors.
Twelve healthy participants were subjected to a randomized series of stressors, including cold pressor test (CPT), mental arithmetic test, apnea, isometric handgrip (IHG) and post-handgrip muscle ischemia (PHGMI), while in the supine position. Spatially-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy was used to measure relative changes in blood volume and oxygenation (TOI) of the resting masseter and biceps muscles. Cardiac output, heart rate, and arterial blood pressure (ABP) were also monitored.
Except apnea, all tests increased ABP. Different response patterns were observed in the 2 muscles TOI significantly increased during contralateral IHG (1.24±1.17%) but markedly decreased during CPT (-4.84±4.09%) and PHGMI (-6.65±5.31%) in the biceps muscle, while exhibiting consistent increases in the masseter (1.88±1.85%; 1.60±1.75%; 1.06±3.29%, respectively) (p<0.05).
The results allow us to infer differential control of blood flow in head and limb muscles. In general, the masseter appears more prone to dilatation than the biceps, exhibiting opposite changes in response to painful stimuli (CPT and PHGMI). Several mechanisms may mediate this effect, including reduced sympathetic outflow to the extracranial vasculature of the head, generally exposed to lower hydrostatic loads than the rest of the body.

Relating dental conditions and capacity of texture sensation are still paucities in the literature. Different dental areas emphasize the difference in texture sensation. Anterior teeth are responsible for biting, ripping or tearing; while posterior teeth are chewing and grinding. Hence, the absence of any is expected to cause disruptions in mastication functions. selleck chemicals The hypothesis of the present study was dental loss or missing is a burden for hardness perception for first-bite and twice chewed for anterior and posterior teeth, respectively. Patient groups were divided according to anterior-posterior tooth deficiencies and hardness sensation was assessed at first bite and twice chewed modal food (white cheese) with various hardness levels obtained with different fat content. The modal food was tested for its physicochemical, textural and sensory properties with dental assessment. Findings suggest that first-bite hardness judgements were not affected by the loss of the anterior. Oppositely, twice chewed hardness has a significant effect on the loss of a posterior tooth. These findings can indicate to future researchers to be tested according to their dental status especially if chewing is necessary for their sensory tests.High temperatures seriously limit the growth and productivity of Gracilariopsis lemaneiformis. By hydrolyzing glycerolipids into lysophospholipids (LPs) and free fatty acids (FFAs), patatin-like phospholipase A (pPLA) plays an important role in stress responses. GlpPLA expression was up-regulated under heat stress, however, the regulation of pPLA in heat tolerance of G. lemaneiformis is unknown. In this study, G. lemaneiformis under heat stress was treated with bromoenololide (BEL), a chemical inhibitor of pPLA, to evaluate the cellular function of pPLA in this species. When pPLA was inhibited through BEL treatment, the sensitivity of G. lemaneiformis to heat stress increased and the biomass and maximum and effective quantum yield of photosystem II decreased. Moreover, BEL treatment resulted in a significant decrease in many lipid molecular species, all of which are mainly composed of 16C, 18C, and 20C fatty acids. Consistently, FFA levels and LPs contents in G. lemaneiformis under BEL treatment showed a significant decrease. The first step in the synthesis of jasmonic acid (JA) is the lipoxygenase (LOX)-mediated oxygenation of linolenic acid (C183). BEL treatment decreased JA and C183 accumulation and markedly downregulated the expression of GILOX under heat stress. Together, these results indicate that pPLA is closely related to the growth of G. lemaneiformis under heat stress, and pPLA is involved in the lipid metabolism and JA biosynthesis of G. lemaneiformis in response to heat stress. This research broadens the understanding of the heat stress adaptation mechanism of G. lemaneiformis.
High-dose eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) therapy was beneficial in high-risk patients without clinical cardiovascular disease (CVD). Whether higher plasma levels of EPA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) have similar benefits in those without subclinical CVD is unclear. We aim to evaluate the interplay between plasma omega-3 fatty acids and coronary artery calcium (CAC) in relation to CVD events.
We examined 6568 participants from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) with plasma EPA and DHA levels and CAC measured at baseline. The primary outcome was incident CVD events (myocardial infarction, angina, cardiac arrest, stroke, CVD death). Hazard ratios for the primary outcome were adjusted for potential confounder using Cox regression.
Mean±SD age was 62.1±10.2 years and 52.9% were females. The median follow-up time was 15.6 years. Higher log
(EPA) (adjusted hazard ratio, aHR=0.83; 95% CI, 0.74-0.94) and log
(DHA) (aHR=0.79; 95% CI, 0.66-0.96) were independently associated with fewer CVD events. The difference in absolute CVD event rates between lowest vs. highest EPA tertile increased at higher CAC levels. The adjusted HR for highest vs. lowest EPA tertile within CAC=0 was 1.02 (95% CI, 0.72-1.46), CAC=1-99 was 0.71 (95% CI, 0.51-0.99), and CAC≥100 was 0.67 (95% CI, 0.52-0.84). A similar association was seen in tertiles of DHA by CAC category.
In an ethnically diverse population free of clinical CVD, higher plasma omega-3 fatty acid levels were associated with fewer long-term CVD events. The absolute decrease in CVD events with higher omega-3 fatty acid levels was more apparent at higher CAC scores.

In biomedical fields, image analysis is often necessary for an accurate diagnosis. In order to obtain all the information needed to form an in-depth clinical picture, it may be useful to combine the contents of images taken under different diagnostic modes. Multimodal medical image fusion techniques enable complementary information acquired by different imaging devices to be automatically combined into a unique image.
In this paper, multimodal medical images fusion method based on multiresolution analysis (MRA) is proposed, with the aim to combine the high geometric content of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the elasticity information of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), simultaneously acquired on the same organs of a patient. First, the slices of MRE are volumetrically interpolated to exactly overlap, each with a slice of MRI. Then, the spatial details of MRI are extracted by means of MRA and injected into the corresponding slices of MRE. Due to the intrinsic dissimilarity between corresponding slices of MRE and MRI, the spatial details of MRI are modulated by local or global matching functions.
The performance of the proposed method is quantitatively assessed considering radiometric and geometric consistency of the fused images with respect to their originals, in a comparison with two popular methods from the literature. For a qualitative evaluation, a visual inspection is carried out.
The results show that the proposed method enables an effective MRI-MRE fusion that allows the elasticity information and geometric details of the examined organs to be evaluated in a single image.

Local Field Potentials (LFPs) recorded from the primary motor cortex (M1) have been shown to be very informative for decoding movement parameters, and these signals can be used to decode forelimb kinematic and kinetic parameters accurately. Although locomotion is one of the most basic and important motor abilities of humans and animals, the potential of LFPs in decoding abstract hindlimb locomotor parameters has not been investigated. This study investigates the feasibility of decoding speed and slope of locomotion, as two important abstract parameters of walking, using the LFP signals.
Rats were trained to walk smoothly on a treadmill with different speeds and slopes. The brain signals were recorded using the microwire arrays chronically implanted in the hindlimb area of M1 while rats walked on the treadmill. LFP channels were spatially filtered using optimal common spatial patterns to increase the discriminability of speeds and slopes of locomotion. Logarithmicwavelet band powers were extracted as basic features, and the best features were selected using the statistical dependency criterion before classification.
Using 5s LFP trials, the average classification accuracies of four different speeds and seven different slopes reached 90.8% and 86.82%, respectively. The high-frequency LFP band (250-500Hz) was the most informative band about these parameters and contributed more than other frequency bands in the final decoder model.
Our results show that the LFP signals in M1 accurately decode locomotion speed and slope, which can be considered as abstract walking parameters needed for designing long-term brain-computer interfaces for hindlimb locomotion control.

We searched five databases for randomized clinical trials that compared one CBT-I delivery format against another format or control conditions for insomnia in adults. We used pairwise meta-analyses and frequentist network meta-analyses with the random-effects model to synthesize data. A total of 61 unique trials including 11,571 participants compared six CBT-I delivery formats with four control conditions. At post-intervention, with low to high certainty evidence, individual, group, guided self-help, digital assisted, and unguided self-help CBT-I could significantly increase sleep efficiency and total sleep time (TST) and reduce sleep onset latency (SOL), wake after sleep onset (WASO), and insomnia severity compared with treatment as usual (MD range for sleep efficiency 7.81%-12.45%; MD range for TST 16.14-33.96 min; MD range for SOL -22.42 to -13.81 min; MD range for WASO -40.
