The main-effect QTLs identified in this RIL population were linked with previously described genes, known to modulate resistance against lepidopteran insects in crop plants. One QTL cluster harbouring main-effect QTLs for three H. armigera resistance component traits and explaining up to 42.49% of the phenotypic variance, was identified on CaLG03. This genomic region, after validation, may be useful to improve H. armigera resistance component traits in elite chickpea cultivars.Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare neoplasm of the serosal membranes. MPM usually manifests as local invasion, rarely with distant haematogenous metastases in different organs. Few cases of tongue metastasis have been documented. Here, we report the case of a 68-year-old man diagnosed with malignant pleural epithelioid mesothelioma together with a simultaneous tongue lesion, which was found to be metastatic malignant mesothelioma. Tongue metastasis from MPM is rare and the oral symptoms it causes could be an early sign of clinical manifestation. For patients with oral symptoms and a newly discovered tongue lesion, clinicians should be aware of the possibility of tongue metastasis and search for a primary malignancy.
Durvalumab after concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) has been found to significantly improve overall survival (OS). However, the effect of durvalumab on local control remains unclear. Here, we evaluated the effect of the durvalumab on local control in comparison with the clinical result of patients treated with CCRT alone.
A total of 120 LA-NSCLC patients including 76 patients with CCRT alone and 44 patients with CCRT followed by durvalumab were analyzed. Baseline patient characteristics of CCRT alone cohort and durvalumab cohort were compared with student's t test or Mann-Whitney U test for continuous variables and with chi-squared test for categorical variables. Local control (LC), progression free survival (PFS) and OS rates were estimated using the Kaplan-Meier method and compared with the log-rank test.
There were 19 patients with stage II disease and 101 patients with stage III disease. Age, sex, histopathological type, T classification, NTHE STUDY Effect of durvalumab on local control after chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer is unclear WHAT THIS STUDY ADDS The one-year local control rate of chemoradiotherapy followed by durvalumab was significantly higher compared with chemoradiotherapy alone.
Vaginally assisted laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (VALS), which is a combined surgical approach where a vaginal hysterectomy is initially performed, followed by transvaginal placement of synthetic mesh and laparoscopic suspension, can be an alternative to overcome the dissection, suturing limitations of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy. The aim of this study was to compare the operative times and middle-term anatomic outcomes of women with uterovaginal prolapse undergoing VALS with those of women undergoing abdominal sacrocolpopexy.
This is a prospective cohort study that evaluates operation times, anesthesia times, estimated blood loss, middle-term outcomes, perioperative and postoperative complications. We compared the results of 47 women who had the VALS to that of 32 abdominal sacrocolpopexy (AS).
The mean follow up was 22.4 months for AS group and 20.5 months for VALS group. The VALS group (median 1 day) had shorter hospitalization duration than the AS group (median 3 days). The mean operation time was significantly shorter in the VALS group (125.9 minutes) than the AS group (151.9 minutes) (P = .03). Amprenavir in vitro There was no significant difference in perioperative and postoperative complication rates. Objective failure rate (8.5% in VALS, 15.6% in AS), subjective failure rates (6.4% in VALS, 9.4% in AS), recurrence (2.1% in VALS, 9.4% in AS) and mesh exposition rates (2.1% in VALS, 9.4% in AS) were similar in both procedures.
VALS with shorter operative time and hospitalization than conventional AS is a promising modification minimally invasive technique for sacrocolpopexy especially for those inexperienced in laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy.

To investigate the incidence rate of massive submacular haemorrhage (SMH) and risk factors in polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV) and typical neovascular age-related macular degeneration (tnAMD).
A total of 465 patients who were diagnosed with either PCV (n=245) or tnAMD (n=220) from 2003 to 2014 were enrolled. Cumulative incidence of massive SMH in PCV and that in tnAMD were compared. Risk factors of massive SMH were also analysed.
Massive SMH occurred in 32 patients (13.1%) with PCV and 9 patients (4.1%) with tnAMD. Incidence rates of massive SMH 5 and 10years after the first visit were 11.1% and 29.9% in PCV and 4.3% and 9.9% in tnAMD, respectively. Incidence rates of massive SMH in PCV were significantly higher than those in tnAMD (hazard ratio [HR], 2.66; p=0.007). Cox regression analysis revealed that mean number of photodynamic therapies (PDTs) per year (HR, 4.24; p<0.001), cluster type of polypoidal lesion (HR, 3.42; p=0.003) in PCV, and mean number of anti-VEGF injections per year (HR, 1.58; p<0.001) in tnAMD were significantly associated with risk of massive SMH. For patients with severe vision loss, proportion of incident massive SMH was significantly higher in PCV (29.5%) than in tnAMD (6.9%, p<0.001).
The incidence rate of massive SMH in eyes with PCV was about three times higher than that in eyes with tnAMD. Treatment methods that can reduce the incidence of massive SMH should be considered, especially for eyes with PCV.

Taste receptor genes have proven to be molecular signatures of dietary diversification in bats. For example, all 3 extant species of vampire bats have lost many bitter taste receptor genes (Tas2rs) in association with their dietary shift from insectivory to sanguivory. Indeed, only 8 full-length Tas2rs were identified from the high-quality genome of the common vampire bat (Desmodus rotundus). However, it is presently unknown whether these bitter receptors are functional, since the sense of taste is less important in vampire bats, which have an extremely narrow diet and rely on other senses for acquiring food. Here, we applied a molecular evolutionary analysis of Tas2rs in the common vampire bat compared with non-vampire bats. Furthermore, we provided the first attempt to deorphanize all bitter receptors of the vampire bat using a cell-based assay. We found that all Tas2r genes in the vampire bat have a level of selective pressure similar to that in non-vampire bats, suggesting that this species must have retained some bitter taste functions.
