For this purpose, first, acetonitrile containing 8-hydroxyquinoline is added into a sample solution and the mixture is vortexed. As a result, a homogeneous solution is formed. Subsequently, the solution is cooled using liquid nitrogen for a few seconds. By this process, due to difference in the freezing point of acetonitrile and water, the homogeneous state is broken and the analytes (as oxinate complexes) are extracted into liquid acetonitrile phase collected on top of the frozen aqueous phase. The linear dynamic ranges obtained for Ni(II) and Co(II) were 1.0-30 and 0.50-20 μg L-1, respectively. The obtained limits of detection were 0.36 and 0.20 μg L-1 for Ni(II) and Co(II), respectively.Fluctuations in the abundance of main prey species might shape animal communities, by inducing numerical responses and dietary shifts in predators. Whether numerical responses and dietary shifts differ among individuals of different age and sex has so far gained little attention. These differences could affect how much predators consume main and alternative prey, thus causing variation in predation pressure on main and alternative prey species. We studied the effect of fluctuating main prey abundance (voles) in autumn on the age and sex composition of a food-hoarding population of Eurasian pygmy owls Glaucidium passerinum (327 individuals), and on the species composition of their food stores in western Finland during 2003-2017 (629 food stores). Numbers of yearlings ( less then 1-year old) of both sexes and adult (+ 1-year old) females increased with increasing vole abundance. In this study, we report for the first time the isolation of a strain of the recently described novel species Lactococcus petauri, from rainbow trout suffering from lactococcosis. The aim of this study was to determine the complete genome sequence of L. petauri strain LG_SAV_20 and to characterize its antimicrobial resistance and virulence. The genome of L. petauri LG_SAV_20 consists of 2,078,949 base pair (bp) with a GC content of 38.05%, 1950 predicted coding sequence (CDS), and 60 RNAs (51 tRNAs, 3 ncRNAs, and 6 rRNAs). Phylogenetic analysis revealed that L. petauri LG_SAV_20 shares most of its genome with L. garvieae strains isolated from rainbow trout. Detection of genes associated with antimicrobial resistance indicated that the isolate possesses the multidrug transporter mdt(A) gene, while using comparative analysis we identified several genes that might be related to bacterial pathogenesis. This genomic information provides new insights into the role of this novel species as an etiological agent of lactococcosis.Salmonella remains one of the most common foodborne pathogens worldwide, and its resistance to antimicrobials and disinfectants has increased considerably over the years. Thus, monitoring its resistance to products commonly used in swine production is indispensable for the development of strategies to reduce the occurrence of bacterial resistance. In this context, our aim was to detect Salmonella at different points in swine slaughterhouses, identify the main serotypes, and evaluate their resistance to disinfectants and antimicrobials used in swine production. Salmonella at the processing plants was detected by conventional microbiology. Salmonella strains were tested for susceptibility to peracetic acid (0.5% and 1%), quaternary ammonium (0.5%), and seven antimicrobials. Twenty-eight percent of the samples were positive for Salmonella, with the most identified serotypes being Salmonella Derby, Salmonella Typhimurium, and monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium. All tested strains were susceptible to both concentrations of peracetic acid, but only 28% were susceptible to quaternary ammonium. Sixteen percent of the strains were susceptible to all tested antimicrobials. Only enrofloxacin was efficient in inhibiting the growth of all strains. The highest number of non-susceptible strains was to amoxicillin, followed by chloramphenicol, florfenicol, and doxycycline. Thirty-six percent of the strains were classified as multidrug-resistant. Salmonella were detected in all slaughtering processes, and important serotypes were recovered, including Salmonella Typhimurium, Salmonella Derby, monophasic Salmonella Typhimurium, and Salmonella Infantis. We observed high rates of resistance to quaternary ammonium and to important antimicrobial agents. Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Infantis were the most resistant serotypes.OBJECTIVE The aim of the study is to evaluate the importance of acoustic modifications generated by different commercially available ear-tips, focused on domes of receiver in the canal hearing aids using Real Ear Measurement (REM). METHODS We enrolled 110 people selecting 200 ears bearers of hearing aids. In every patient, we performed REM and audiological tests with three different dome types Open, Tulip and Double Closed (DC).
