E1 - hero has supernatural abilities
- Ulysses is very strong, and carries two men at a time to save them. He also is a strategist and planned how he could get back to Penelope, and his son hold a contest where only Ulysses can win. He is a great archer.
E2 - the hero is faced with quest
- Ulysses seeks to get home to Ithaca, where he must serve as king. He has responsibilities in Ithaca, and he wants to get home after his ten years in the Trojan War.
E3 - the hero is tested
- Ulysses is tested on his willpower where he and his men are trapped on the Island of the Lotus Eaters. He must resist his temptation, and he also has to carry two men with twigs in his eyes.
E4 - the hero has numerous helpers
Ulysses meets Aeolus, who, in return for a safe ride home, gives him a bag of winds, which will blow him in the direction of Ithaca. He also meets the Phaeacians who take him back to Ithaca.
E5 - his journey takes him to places
Ulysses goes to Tartarus and is foretold the future of what will happen and what he must do. He also goes to many other islands, such as Circe's island, the Island of the Ciconians, and the island of the Sun Titan.
E6 - the hero reaches a low point
Ulysses' men steal from Hyperion. Zeus strikes with a thunderbolt and kills everyone but Ulysses, who is trapped in the vast ocean with a thin raft.
E7 - the hero regains confidence
Ulysses is on Ithaca, and sees his son, Telemachus, after 20 years. He is filled with determination, and forms a plan to get Penelope back.
E8 - the hero regains his rightful place
Ulysses wins the contest where one must string Ulysses' bow and shoot through the rings. He kills the infuriated suitors, and is reunited with Penelope and Telemachus.
