CPA significantly increased malondialdehyde (MDA), protein carbonyl (PCO) and nitric oxide (NO) levels and liver biomarkers. Otherwise, hepatic catalase (CAT), reduced glutathione (GSH), total thiol content (tSH), and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) were considerably lower than the control group. Results showed that WC has the ability to reduce the changes (MDA, PCO, FRAP, CAT, ALT and AST) and QE (MDA, PCO, AST) induced by CPA (p less then 0.05). Histopathological finding confirmed the indicated results. These findings propose that WC and QE have protective effect against the CPA-induced hepatotoxicity by decreasing oxidative stress.The aim of this study is to evaluate which dysregulated angiomiRs compose the specific proangiogenic microRNA signature of advanced laryngeal cancer and review the literature. Thirty-six samples from twelve patients with advanced laryngeal carcinoma were collected. Total RNA was extracted and microRNA global profiling was performed using Agilent Technologies Microarray Kit. Fifty-nine microRNAs were found to have significantly different expression levels. Eleven microRNAs from the whole group were sorted as regulators of tumor angiogenesis (angiomiRs) seven were up-regulated-miR-1246, miR-181b 5p, miR-18a 5p, miR-21 3p, miR-210 3p, miR-503 5p, miR-93 5p and four were down-regulated-miR148a 5p, miR-145 5p, miR-204 5p, miR-125b 5p. For none of those microRNAs we found heterogeneity in tumor tissue. We are the first to report the specific proangiogenic microRNA signature in advanced laryngeal carcinoma and we confirm and amplify findings from previous studies that expand our perception of a specific "molecular state" of angiogenesis that is distinctive only for laryngeal cancer.To understand the physiological response of estuarine fish to acidification, barramundi (Lates calcarifer) juveniles were exposed to acidified seawater in experimental conditions. The molecular response of barramundi to acidification stress was assessed by RNA-seq analysis. A total of 2188 genes were identified as differential expression genes. The gene ontology classification system and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database analysis showed that acidification caused differential expressions of genes and pathways in the gills of barramundi. Acidification had a great influence on the signal transduction pathway in cell process. Each additional adolescent 15-19 years in a household was associated with a 1.35 (95% CI 1.06-1.71) higher odds of depressive symptoms among women, but not men, adjusting for potential confounders. Interventions to support the mental health of adults living with HIV may target women caring for dependent adolescents 15-19 years.Purpose To compare the short-term surgical effectiveness and safety profile of ab interno trabeculotomy using 2 types of trabecular hooks. Study design Retrospective comparative study. Patients and methods A retrospective chart review was performed on Japanese open-angle glaucoma patients who underwent ab interno trabeculotomy with phacoemulsification and who had a 6-month follow-up. Trabeculotomy was performed using 2 kinds of trabecular hooks, the Tanito ab interno Trabeculotomy Micro-hook (TMH) or the Kahook Dual Blade (KDB). The patients' demographics, preoperative and postoperative intraocular pressures (IOPs), medication scores, and occurrence of complications were analyzed and compared. Results Fifty-nine eyes with open-angle glaucoma were included in the final analysis. Trabeculotomy was performed using the TMH in 30 eyes (50.8%) and the KDB in 29 eyes (49.2%). Significant decreases in IOP from the baseline (P less then 0.001, except for the 1-month time-point in the KDB group, when P less then 0.01) after the 1-month time-point and the medication scores (P less then 0.001) at all time-points were noted in both groups. However, the percentage changes in the IOP and medication scores from the baseline at each time-point did not differ significantly between the 2 groups, with the exception of the medication score at the 1-month time-point (P less then 0.0283). The occurrence of postoperative complications was similar in the 2 groups. Conclusions The present study demonstrates the absence of significant differences in IOP and medication score reductions at almost all time-points between the TMH and KDB groups.Posterior spinal fusion surgery requires careful insertion of screws into the spine to avoid neurologic injury. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and processing time of a custom CT-3DUS registration algorithm. A phantom human vertebra was 3D-printed and scanned with a motion capture-based 3D ultrasound (3DUS) system. Image registration was performed that included a pre-alignment phase using vertebral symmetry information, and then comparing Gaussian pyramid intensity-based registration with iterative-closest-point registration for final transformations. Image registration was performed 192 times while surgical registration between CT and real-world position was performed 84 times. The accuracy of image registration (CT-to-3DUS) was 0.3 ± 0.2 mm and 0.9 ± 0.8° completed in 13.
