Post-operative impairment of gastrointestinal tract function and metabolic consequences occur in patients after gastrectomy by Roux-en-Y method. Short-chain fatty acids and silicon dioxide may prove beneficial in the treatment of these conditions.

To evaluate a preparation containing propionic acid and silicon dioxide on the body weight, number of stools and their consistency (the Bristol scale), and pain and a feeling of gastric fullness after a meal, in patients after gastrectomy by Roux-en-Y method.

Initially the average daily number of movements was 10/day, after the therapy it was 3.8/day. After supplementation, 3 patients described stool consistency as type 5, and two as type 4. Initially, patients rated their pain at 3.4/10 on average, the stomach fullness eling of gastric fullness as 1/10, and 1 no longer observed this feeling. Patients disclaimed any adverse effects, and satisfaction after therapy reached 9-10/10 points. Patients' body weight did not change significantly. An improvement in standard diet tolerance was observed. Despite the limited study group, clinical benefits of the supplementation were observed.
As one of the most common causes of cancer deaths in Poland, colorectal cancer, remains a mystery when factors affecting local and distant lymph node metastasis are concerned.

In this study the authors have analysed possible correlations between the number of regional (and distant) lymph nodes affected by cancer, location and stage of the primary tumour, levels of oncological markers CA19-9 and CEA, and the patients age, sex, body mass index (BMI), and other clinical symptoms.

A special questionnaire was created for this study, and a group of 100 men and women was selected. All patients in the study group had undergone surgery due to colorectal cancer.

There were no statistically significant relationships between age, and number and location of metastases (
> 0.05). Primary tumour assessment did not show a statistically significant relationship with the presence of metastases to regional lymph nodes (
> 0.05). There was also no statistically significant correlation between tumour localisatioermines the formation of metastases in distant lymph nodes.
The location of the primary tumour, and its pathological stage and size does not seem to have a direct correlation with the occurrence of regional lymph node metastases. Metastasis to distant lymph nodes seems to be a consequence of metastases in regional nodes. Elevated CEA tumour marker values are significantly related to metastases in regional lymph nodes. The elevation of CA 19-9 and CEA tumour markers significantly correlates with the presence of metastasis to distant lymph nodes. When a patient is admitted to a hospital for acute pancreatitis (AP), the day of the week on which the admission occurs may influence the outcome of care. To evaluate the relationship between weekend admission and AP outcome.

One hundred and twenty-six patients were prospectively included, assessed according to the revised Atlanta criteria, and observed until discharge or death. Weekend and weekday admissions were compared in terms of severity, aetiology, length of hospital stay, and in-hospital mortality.

Patients were divided into two groups according to the timing of admission (weekday,
= 99, 78.6%; or weekend,
= 27, 21.4%). AP was considered severe in 33 (26.2%) patients, moderately severe AP in 37 (29.4%) patients, and mild in 56 (44.4%) patients. No significant differences were found with regard to the distribution of AP severity between the two groups. The impact of weekend admission was not significant for aetiology or for the length of hospital stay (median of 9 vs. 10 days). In-hospital mortality rates were not significantly different for weekday and weekend admissions.

This study evaluates the safety of upper gastroenterological endoscopic biopsy in patients receiving antithrombotic drugs. We evaluated the prospective observational safety of endoscopic biopsy performed in the endoscopy unit of our patients using antithrombotic drugs.

Oesophagogastroduodenoscopies (OGD) and biopsies performed at a single endoscopy unit between July 2018 and February 2019 were examined in this prospective observational study. Patients receiving antithrombotic drugs due to cardiovascular and neurological reasons, who underwent an endoscopic mucosal biopsy for diagnostic purposes, were included in the study.

The study was completed with 166 patients who underwent an endoscopic biopsy, from whom a total of 327 biopsies taken.
