This paper proposes a novel enhancement for Competitive Swarm Optimizer (CSO) by mutating loser particles (agents) from the swarm to increase the swarm diversity and improve space exploration capability, namely Competitive Swarm Optimizer with Mutated Agents (CSO-MA). The selection mechanism is carried out so that it does not retard the search if agents are exploring in promising areas. Simulation results show that CSO-MA has a better exploration-exploitation balance than CSO and generally outperforms CSO, which is one of the state-of-the-art metaheuristic algorithms for optimization. We show additionally that it also generally outperforms swarm based types of algorithms and an exemplary and popular non-swarm based algorithm called Cuckoo search, without requiring a lot more CPU time. We apply CSO-MA to find a c-optimal approximate design for a high-dimensional optimal design problem when other swarm algorithms were not able to. As applications, we use the CSO-MA to search various optimal designs for a series of high-dimensional statistical models. The proposed CSO-MA algorithm is a general-purpose optimizing tool and can be directly amended to find other types of optimal designs for nonlinear models, including optimal exact designs under a convex or non-convex criterion. The natural science in GEO-6 makes clear that a range and variety of unwelcome outcomes for humanity, with potentially very significant impacts for human health, become increasingly likely if societies maintain their current development paths. This paper assesses what is known about the likely economic implications of either current trends or the transformation to a low-carbon and resource-efficient economy in the years to 2050 for which GEO-6 calls. A key conclusion is that no conventional cost-benefit analysis for either scenario is possible. This is because the final cost of meeting various decarbonisation and resource-management pathways depends on decisions made today in changing behaviour and generating innovation. The inadequacies of conventional modelling approaches generally lead to understating the risks from unmitigated climate change and overstating the costs of a low-carbon transition, by missing out the cumulative gains from path-dependent innovation. This leads to a flawed conclusion as to how to respond to the climate emergency, namely that significant reductions in emissions are prohibitively expensive and, therefore, to be avoided until new, cost-effective technologies are developed. We argue that this is inconsistent with the evidence and counterproductive in serving to delay decarbonisation efforts, thereby increasing its costs. Understanding the processes which drive innovation, change social norms and avoid locking in to carbon- and resource-intensive technologies, infrastructure and behaviours, will help decision makers as they ponder how to respond to the increasingly stark warnings of natural scientists about the deteriorating condition of the natural environment. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) recognise the importance of action across all scales to achieve a sustainable future. To contribute to overall national- and global-scale SDG achievement, local communities need to focus on a locally-relevant subset of goals and understand potential future pathways for key drivers which influence local sustainability. We developed a participatory method to co-create local socioeconomic pathways by downscaling the SDGs and driving forces of the shared socioeconomic pathways (SSPs) via a local case study in southern Australia through contextual analysis and community engagement. We linked the SSPs and SDGs by identifying driving forces and describing how they affect the achievement of local SDGs. We co-created six local socioeconomic pathways with the local community which track towards futures with different levels of fulfilment of the SDGs and each encompasses a narrative storyline incorporating locally-specific ideas from the community. We tested and validated the local pathways with the community. This method extends the SSPs in two dimensions-into the broader field of sustainability via the SDGs, and by recontextualizing them at the local scale. The local socioeconomic pathways can contribute to achieving local sustainability goals from the bottom up in alignment with global initiatives.Pneumonia is responsible for high infant morbidity and mortality. This disease affects the small air sacs (alveoli) in the lung and requires prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Chest X-rays are one of the most common tests used to detect pneumonia. In this work, we propose a real-time Internet of Things (IoT) system to detect pneumonia in chest X-ray images. The dataset used has 6000 chest X-ray images of children, and three medical specialists performed the validations. In this work, twelve different architectures of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) trained on ImageNet were adapted to operate as the resource extractors. SIRT6-IN-1 Subsequently, the CNNs were combined with consolidated learning methods, such as k-Nearest Neighbor (kNN), Naive Bayes, Random Forest, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). The results showed that the VGG19 architecture with the SVM classifier using the RBF kernel was the best model to detect pneumonia in these chest radiographs. This combination reached 96.47%, 96.46%, and 96.46% for Accuracy, F1 score, and Precision values, respectively. Compared to other works in the literature, the proposed approach had better results for the metrics used. These results show that this approach for the detection of pneumonia in children using a real-time IoT system is efficient and is, therefore, a potential tool to aid in medical diagnoses. This approach will allow specialists to obtain faster and more accurate results and thus provide the appropriate treatment.Phosphole-fused π-conjugated acenes have been attracting interest because of the attractive features of the phosphole moiety, such as fluorescence and chemically modifiable properties. Herein, 6-phenyl-6H-benzo[f]naphtho[2,3-b]phosphoindole was prepared by reacting dichlorophenylphosphine with a dilithium intermediate derived from 3,3'-dibromo-2,2'-binaphthyl. Various derivatives, such as a phospholium salt and a borane-phosphole complex with functional groups on the phosphorus atom were synthesized using the obtained phosphole as a common starting material. Single-crystal X-ray analysis of the parent benzo[f]naphtho[2,3-b]phosphoindole revealed that the pentacyclic ring is almost planar. Fluorescence spectroscopy data showed that the phosphole derivatives, such as phosphine oxide and the phospholium salt and borane complex exhibited photoluminescence in chloroform.
