Skin dryness is a common dermatological problem among older people.We aimed to evaluate the frequency of moisturiser use and awareness of its benefits among older people.

This cross-sectional descriptive study included 556 individuals over 65 years of age, all of whom were patients at family medicine and dermatology outpatient clinics at a tertiary teaching hospital. Data were summarised descriptively and analysed using binary logistic regression analysis.

Low back pain (LBP) is the leading cause of disability worldwide; however, the majority of LBP is non-specific in nature with no clearly identifiable source of pain. Contemporary understanding of LBP highlights the multidimensional nature of LBP and as a result clinical practice and guidelines have evolved and advocate a multidimensional approach to managing persons with LBP. This change in understanding and practice provides challenges for physiotherapists and persons with LBP, many who have biomedical views. The aim of this study was to explore musculoskeletal physiotherapists conceptions towards the management of LBP.

The research employed a phenomenographic inspired approach which aims to explore variations in conceptions, beliefs and understanding of a phenomenon. Six participants (physiotherapists) were interviewed via semi-structured interviews to explore their experiences of managing persons with LBP and the data was analysed using a phenomenographic framework.

Three main categories emerged fromest how the physiotherapists interviewed in this study conceive the management of LBP, and these findings will provide a greater understanding around the physiotherapy management of LBP.
Facial activity during pain is composed of varying combinations of a few elementary facial responses (so-called Action Units). A previous study of experimental pain showed that these varying combinations can be clustered into distinct facial activity patterns of pain. In the present study, we examined whether comparable facial activity patterns can also be identified among people suffering from clinical pain; namely, shoulder pain.

Facial expressions of patients suffering from shoulder pain (N=126) were recorded while twice undergoing a battery of passive range-of-motion tests to their affected limbs (UNBC-McMaster Shoulder Pain Expression Archive Database), which elicited peaks of acute pain. Facial expressions were analysed using the Facial Action Coding System to extract facial Action Units (AUs). Hierarchical cluster analyses were used to look for characteristic combinations of these AUs.

Cluster analyses revealed four distinct activity patterns during painful movements. Each cluster was composed ofnses, namely narrowed eyes, which is displayed either alone or in combination with opened mouth or wrinkled nose, or furrowed brows and closed eyes. These distinct faces of pain may inform the training of professionals and computers how to best recognize pain based on facial expressions.

Physical inactivity exposes older adults living in long-term care institutions to a high risk of health deterioration. Developing effective behaviour change interventions based on a theoretical framework is a pressing concern.

This study developed an 'Easy Walking' intervention programme based on the Wheel of Motivation and aimed to (1) develop the intervention programme for promoting self-efficacy of older adults living in long-term care facilities; and (2) examine the perceived helpfulness of the intervention programme for encouraging walking behaviours.

This study consisted of two stages. In the first stage, a three-round modified Delphi process was conducted with ten experts to rate the eight motivators in the Wheel of Motivation. The Easy Walking programme was designed accordingly. In the second stage, a single-group pretest-posttest study design was employed to evaluate the Easy Walking programme. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data on the changes in self-efficacy and on the perceit the Easy Walking programme to be part of daily nursing activities.Severe distortion is one of the four core effects in single-phase high-entropy alloys (HEAs) and contributes significantly to the yield strength. However, the connection between the atomic-scale lattice distortion and macro-scale mechanical properties through experimental verification has yet to be fully achieved, owing to two critical challenges 1) the difficulty in the development of homogeneous single-phase solid-solution HEAs and 2) the ambiguity in describing the lattice distortion and related measurements and calculations. A single-phase body-centered-cubic (BCC) refractory HEA, NbTaTiVZr, using thermodynamic modeling coupled with experimental verifications, is developed. Compared to the previously developed single-phase NbTaTiV HEA, the NbTaTiVZr HEA shows a higher yield strength and comparable plasticity. The increase in yield strength is systematically and quantitatively studied in terms of lattice distortion using a theoretical model, first-principles calculations, synchrotron X-ray/neutron diffraction, atom-probe tomography, and scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques.
