Introduction In this review, the authors discuss the role of long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAIs) for schizophrenia, focusing on the effectiveness and new perspectives introduced by such treatment strategy. Despite their promising pharmacokinetic features and their potential advantages in medication adherence, clinical outcomes, and medical costs, LAIs are not habitually presented as an option for patients, especially in the early phase of schizophrenia.Areas covered This review explores the panorama of available LAIs for the treatment of schizophrenia, first-episode of psychosis, approved indications, medical costs, medication adherence, side effects, effectiveness and differences between first-generation (FGA)-LAIs and second-generation (SGA)-LAIs.Expert Opinion LAIs differ in terms of specific indications, approved injection sites, needle size, injection volume, injection interval as well as potential drug-drug interactions, and commonly reported adverse reactions. The approved indications have expanded beyond schizophrenia to include bipolar and schizoaffective disorder. SGA-LAIs are often preferred to FGA-LAIs. FGA-LAIs although are less chosen in new patients due to the induction of cognitive and extrapyramidal side effects, even if, on the other hand, many SGA-LAIs are burden by hyperprolactinemia and weight gain. After a review of the available evidence, insight is provided into the potential and current therapeutic opportunities offered by LAI antipsychotic formulations.The increasing incidence of food allergy cases is a public health problem of global concern. Producing hypoallergenic foods with high quality, low cost, and eco-friendly is a new trend for the food industry in the coming decades. Food irradiation, a non-thermal food processing technology, is a powerful tool to reduce the allergenicity with the above advantages. This review presents a summary of recent studies about food irradiation to reduce the allergenicity of food, including shellfish, soy, peanut, milk, tree nut, egg, wheat and fish. Principles of food irradiation, including mechanisms of allergenicity-reduction, irradiation types and characteristics, are discussed. Specific effects of food irradiation are also evaluated, involving microbial decontamination, improvement or preservation of nutritional value, harmful substances reduction of food products. Furthermore, the advantages, disadvantages and limitations of food irradiation are analyzed. It is concluded that food irradiation is a safety tool to reduce the allergenicity of food effectively, with high nutritional value and long shelf-life, making it a competitive alternative technology to traditional techniques such as heating treatments. Of note, a combination of irradiation with additional processing may be a trend for food irradiation.Food researchers are currently showing a growing interest in in vitro digestibility studies due to their importance for obtaining food products with health benefits and ensuring a balanced nutrient intake. Various bioactive food compounds are sensitive to the digestion process, which results in a lower bioavailability in the gut. In this context, the review provides new insights and comprehensive knowledge regarding the influence of plant-based structured systems on the digestibility of encapsulated compounds and proteins/polysaccharides used in the encapsulation process.

All screening quality metrics improved following the introduction of digital breast tomosynthesis. Results Childhood maltreatment had a direct association with cortisol levels, subjective well-being, positive life events, depression, and physical symptoms and conditions for both men and women. Discussion The present study offers unique contributions toward the examination of biopsychosocial outcomes following maltreatment.
