This article presents a metalinguistic analysis of the songs comprising the album Quanta by Gilberto Gil, highlighting the dialogical relationships that artistic endeavors can establish between contemporary science and a vision of health. This involves a brief introduction of the theoretical/methodological framework and Bakhtin's metalinguistics, followed by the establishment of three different analytical threads that follow the concepts of science, quantum physics, and health and healing which are present in the album, depicting the complex relationships between art, physics and health. This article examines the life, work, and thinking of the diplomat Júlio Constâncio, Count of Villeneuve, reflecting on the initiatives and objectives of Brazilian diplomacy during the final decades of Emperor Pedro II's reign. The analysis is based on the role that objects related to science and technology played within a context of profound changes in the Empire's foreign policy, as important factors in a new strategy to position the country internationally after the War of the Triple Alliance. This article discusses current therapeutic approaches that use the body in motion, noting the historical context and highlighting the main concepts and practices. The most frequently cited psychotherapeutic suggestions in the academic literature and in professional practice are identified, particularly dance/movement therapy (with eight main approaches) and therapeutic dance practices not strictly located within the field of psychotherapy (such as biodance and groups that link contemporary dance with the principles of somatic education). These approaches are compared and contrasted to more precisely identify each approach and augment dialog between them. This article depicts the teaching of sociology in nineteenth-century Brazil, using sources such as the Diário Oficial do Estado do Amazonas and the Amazonas newspaper published between 1890 and 1900 that convey experiences in the state of Amazonas. The theoretical-methodological approach focuses on document analysis and Bourdieu's concept of "field" in order to understand the dynamics of how sociology was situated within normal schools and secondary education in Brazil. The results illustrate teacher training, the number of students, the content and its inclusion in the curriculum, the influence of federal laws, and international circulation of ideas in the teaching of sociology. This paper presents a historical narrative about the incidence of pemphigus foliaceus in Brazil in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This autoimmune blistering skin disease is more common in children, adolescents, and young adults who live in rural areas of endemic regions. It was first described in Brazil in 1903 by the physician Caramuru Paes Leme. The main foci of the disease are in the Federal District and the states of Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, and São Paulo. This research topic, which has attracted widespread attention from medical practice, especially dermatology, has not received similar attention from historians of health and disease. In the Brazilian public health literature, an association has been drawn between the 1970s health reform movement and what has been called developmentalist health. By investigating the discourse of two sanitarians from the developmentalist period - Mario Magalhães da Silveira and Carlos Gentile de Mello - we seek to unpick how their status of "precursors" of the health reform was constructed, analyzing the interfaces between public health, developmentalist thinking, the strategy for the construction of the developmentalist health and the health reform. Without refuting the pioneering nature of the sanitarians' ideas, we argue that the Brazilian Unified Health System, Sistema Único de Saúde, was created not simply in continuation of developmentalist thinking.Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is intended to improve the efficiency and quality of health services provided to the population and reduce the operational costs of prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation; the objective of EBM is to identify relevant issues and promote the social applicability of conclusions. This article underscores the importance of EBM in modern clinical teaching and social practices from the contributions of Archibald Cochrane and David Sackett to the development and dissemination of this paradigm in care and education during the twentieth century. EBM has helped broaden discussions on the relationships between teaching and medical practice, and has taken on an important role in curriculum reforms and training models and practices in health care.An analysis is presented of actions taken by the Brazilian research institution Fiocruz for the communication and popularization of science, from two perspectives. LY3537982 The aim was to investigate how a system for the communication and popularization of science is organized at a large scientific institution and how it is articulated with the institutional discourse. A brief review is presented of how the topic has developed over the history of Fiocruz, followed by a discussion of the way it has been addressed in its official planning documents. The science communication/popularization actions undertaken in 2015 and 2016 were mapped out and classified according to how they interact with the public, giving a better understanding of this area. The article intends to contribute to the history of science, indigenous history and the history of Portuguese America. We begin with the methodological assumptions of Dominique Pestre and the historiography on Portuguese America to investigate a network of indigenous settlements, the work of civil servants with naturalist knowledge, the shipment of botanical species for analysis in Portugal and, finally, the foundation of a botanical garden in the captaincy of Guayases (Goiás) from 1772 to 1806. We describe the indigenous contribution to the construction of natural history knowledge, and discuss the influence of Enlightenment concepts on the reform of the Portuguese colonial system in the captaincy based on Portuguese administrative documentation, letters and study of the application of laws and instructions.
