Our results indicate that compounds 1-4 are the major bioactive insecticidal constituents of Tetraena mongolica. This work should facilitate the development and application of plant-derived botanical pesticides.Neonicotinoids targeting insect nicotinic acetylcholine (ACh) receptors (insect nAChRs) are used for crop protection, but there is a concern about adverse effects on pollinators such as honeybees (Apis mellifera). Thus, we investigated the agonist actions of neonicotinoids (imidacloprid, thiacloprid and clothianidin) on A. mellifera α1 (Amα1)/chicken β2 hybrid nAChRs in Xenopus laevis oocytes according to the subunit stoichiometry of (Amα1)3(β2)2 and (Amα1)2(β2)3 using voltage-clamp electrophysiology. ACh activated (Amα1)3(β2)2 and (Amα1)2(β2)3 nAChRs with similar current amplitude. We investigated the agonist activity of imidacloprid, thiacloprid and clothianidin for the two hybrid nAChRs and found that 1) imidacloprid showed higher affinity than clothianidin, whereas clothianidin showed higher efficacy than imidacloprid for the nAChRs; 2) Thiacloprid showed the highest agonist affinity and the lowest efficacy for the nAChRs. The Amα1/β2 subunit ratio influenced the efficacy of imidacloprid and thiacloprid, but hardly affected that of clothianidin. Hydrogen bond formation by the NH group in clothianidin with the main chain carbonyl of the loop B may account, at least in part, for the unique agonist actions of clothianidin on the hybrid nAChRs tested.Insecticides of the tetronic/tetramic acid family (cyclic ketoenols) are widely used to control sucking pests such as whiteflies, aphids and mites. They act as inhibitors of acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC), a key enzyme for lipid biosynthesis across taxa. see more While it is well documented that plant ACCs targeted by herbicides have developed resistance associated with mutations at the carboxyltransferase (CT) domain, resistance to ketoenols in invertebrate pests has been previously associated either with metabolic resistance or with non-validated candidate mutations in different ACC domains. A recent study revealed high levels of spiromesifen and spirotetramat resistance in Spanish field populations of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci that was not thought to be associated with metabolic resistance. We confirm the presence of high resistance levels (up to >640-fold) against ketoenol insecticides in both Spanish and Australian B. tabaci strains of the MED and MEAM1 species, respectively. RNAseq analysis revealed the presence to prevent or slow the spread of resistance through global whitefly populations.Tobacco mosaic virus helicase (TMV-Hel) plays important roles in viral multiplication. TMV-Hel is a potential target of anti-TMV agents. Our previous studies expressed and purified TMV-Hel as target protein for cytosinpeptidemycin. In this study, we preform molecular docking to study the binding sites of commercial antiviral agents with TMV-Hel. Then we verify the interactions between the potential anti-TMV agents and TMV-Hel in vitro using Microscale Thermophoresis experiment and study the inhibiting expression of TMV-Hel with the potential anti-TMV agents in vivo using Western-blot (WB) method. The results showed that ribavirin bound to TMV-Hel with a dissociation constant of 1.55 μM by direct interaction with eight binding sites, which was consistent with the docking studies. Ribavirin inhibited the expression of TMV-Hel in Nicotiana benthamiana. Docking studies combined Microscale Thermophoresis and WB experiment provided a new method to screen anti-TMV agents targeting TMV-Hel.The rise of the #MeToo movement has sparked renewed conversations about sexual harassment in the workplace. All medical fields, including radiology, can benefit from reflecting on workplace culture, reviewing policies, and committing to change. This review provides an overview of the #MeToo movement, describes the prevalence of sexual harassment in medicine and radiology, summarizes barriers to reporting incidents of sexual harassment, evaluates the backlash to the #MeToo movement, and discusses policies and procedures to aid in preventing sexual harassment in the #MeToo era. Background and purpose Early-stage Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is a highly curable disease but the treatment can induce late complications many years later. Irradiation of the healthy heart is inevitable during radiation treatment of mediastinal sites. We developed a novel method to induce a prolonged apnea-like state that can help decrease the dose to organs at risk during radiation therapy. We present the results of the first 8 HL patients treated routinely with percussion assisted radiation therapy (PART) in our clinic. Material and methods We used a newly developed high-frequency non-invasive ventilation system to suppress respiratory motion for prolonged periods and push the heart away from the treated volume. Results All 8 patients were able to rapidly learn the technique and had an advantage to be treated by PART. We lowered the mean heart dose by an average of 3 Gy with similar target coverage compared to a classical free breathing treatment plan. They were all treated for 15 radiotherapy sessions by PART without any notable side effects. Conclusions Percussion assisted radiation therapy can be used routinely to reduce the dose to the heart in Hodgkin lymphoma.Ergonomics has gained increasing recognition as an integral component of career longevity in ophthalmology. Residents and fellows may encounter unique ergonomic challenges when learning surgical techniques. A systematic review of the literature, specifically looking for recommendations on optimizing ergonomics in the operating room (OR) and articles that explicitly mentioned suggestions for trainees, was conducted. Of the identified 41 pieces of literature, 31 specifically mentioned ergonomics in the OR, 10 discussed vitreoretinal surgery, 2 mentioned strabismus surgery, and 2 described ergonomics in oculoplastics surgeries. Only 9 of the 41 articles explicitly mentioned either residents or fellows. Based on this review, as well as anecdotal experience, recommendations for residents, fellows, and staff ophthalmologists while working in the OR were compiled. To help offset risk for musculoskeletal injury, recommendations related to relaxation, movement, and maintenance of ergonomic focus are proposed. In addition, methods to optimize ergonomics for the patient, surgeon, surgical bed, foot pedals, surgeon's chair, and the microscope are identified.
