Predator odors such as urine and feces are known to elicit antipredator behaviors in prey including avoidance, fear, and curiosity. We measured how wild brown mouse lemurs (Microcebus rufus) responded to odors of mammalian, avian, and snake predators as well as nonpredator controls. The first experiment took place under controlled conditions in a laboratory where we recorded the occurrence of four behavioral categories (ignore, curiosity, alert, and fear) in response to a single odor. Subjects exhibited behavioral change significantly more often in response to the predator than to control stimuli, but did not distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar predators. Mammalian predator urine and feces were most likely to elicit behavioral change. In the current study we demonstrated by bioinformatics (CASTp computed atlas of surface topography of protein, PyMol molecular visualization) and molecular docking (PatchDock and Autodock) experiments that tea flavonoids catechin products mainly epigallocatechin gallate or other like theaflavin gallate demonstrated higher atomic contact energy (ACE) value, binding energy, Ki value, ligand efficiency, surface area and more amino acid interactions than hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) during binding in the central channel of the spike protein. Moreover, out of three distinct binding sites (I, II and III) of spike core when HCQ binds only with site III (farthest from the nCoV-RBD of ACE2 contact), epigallocatechin gallate and theaflavin gallate bind all three sites. As sites I and II are in closer contact with open state location and viral-host contact area, these drugs might have significant effects. Taking into account the toxicity/side effects by chloroquine/HCQ, present drugs may be important. Our laboratory is working on tea flavonoids and other phytochemicals in the protection from toxicity, DNA/mitochondrial damage, inflammation and so on. The present data might be helpful for further analysis of flavonoids in this emergent pandemic situation.To evaluate the efficacy and safety of a newer microfocused ultrasound (MFU) device on the lower face laxity. Subjects who underwent MFU therapy for skin tightening were enrolled in the study. The primary outcome measure was overall improvement in skin laxity of the lower face that was evaluated by improvement on jawline irregularities, marionette line, and submental laxity. Assessments were obtained from two blinded dermatologists paired pre- and post-treatment photographs with Investigator-Global-Aesthetic-Improvement-Scale (IGAIS) and from subjects with Subject-GAIS (SGAIS). A total of 24 subjects were evaluated on a median of 4.3 months after 1 session MFU application. According to IGAIS, 5 subjects (20.9%) demonstrated improvement and 15 subjects (62.5%) had no change. Four subjects (16.7%) were scored as worsening. According to SGAIS, 11 subjects (45.9%) reported an improvement whereas 9 subjects (37.5%) reported no change. There was a statistically significant difference between the improvement rate assessed by the investigators and the subjects, where investigators scored lower (P = .006). No serious adverse effects were observed. The relatively high improvement rate observed by the subjects' self assessments compared to investigators evaluation from the photographs suggested that we need to find new evaluation methods other than photography which may reflect what subjects feel but we cannot see.We report herein a nonbiomimetic strategy for the total synthesis of the plicamine-type alkaloids zephycarinatines C and D. The key feature of the synthesis is a stereoselective reductive radical ipso-cyclization using visible-light-mediated photoredox catalysis. This cyclization enabled the construction of a 6,6-spirocyclic core structure through the addition of a carbon-centered radical onto the aromatic ring. Biological evaluation of zephycarinatines and their derivatives revealed that the synthetic derivative with a keto group displays moderate inhibitory activity against LPS-induced NO production. This approach could offer future opportunities to expand the chemical diversity of plicamine-type alkaloids as well as providing useful intermediates for their syntheses.Signet-ring cell/histiocytoid carcinoma (SRCHC) is a very rare skin appendage cancer, with an extremely rare occurrence in the axilla. This study describes the 11th case of SRCHC occurring in the axilla and reports the first gene alteration analysis performed for SRCHC. An 85-year-old Japanese male presented with a tumor in the left axilla. Biopsy of the axilla nodule demonstrated diffuse proliferation of histiocytoid neoplastic cells and signet-ring cells in the dermis and subcutis. Immunohistochemistry revealed loss of E-cadherin expression in these neoplastic cells. Accordingly, SRCHC of the axilla was diagnosed. Genetic analysis using next-generation sequencing demonstrated missense mutation of PIK3CA (c1633G>A, pGlu545Lys) and no CDH1 gene mutation.SRCHC of the axilla is considered equivalent to a histiocytoid variant of invasive lobular breast carcinoma. The present SRCHC case demonstrated a pathogenic PIK3CA mutation, which is observed in invasive lobular carcinoma. Additional large case studies are required to clarify the clinicopathological features and gene alterations in SRCHC of the axilla.
