Irreversible electroporation is a treatment option used for focal therapy. In this systematic review, we summarise data on irreversible electroporation outcomes in patients with localised prostate cancer. We performed a literature search in 3 databases and included articles with own data on irreversible electroporation results in patients with localised prostate cancer. Primary outcome was procedure efficacy measured as the absence of cancer in the treatment area on the follow-up biopsy. Secondary outcomes were the absence of prostate cancer recurrence in the treatment area on MRI, out-of-field recurrence, complications and functional outcomes (erectile function and micturition). In-field recurrence rate was 0%-39% and out-field 6.4%-24%. In all studies, PSA level decreased twice lower than baseline after 4 weeks and by 76% after 2 years. Most of the authors noted sexual and urinary toxicity during the first half year after surgery. However, functional outcomes recovered to baseline after 6 months with mild decrease in sexual function. Complication rates after irreversible electroporation were 0%-1% of Clavien-Dindo III and 5%-20% of Clavien-Dindo I-II. Irreversible electroporation has promise oncological outcomes, rate of post-operative complications and minimal-to-no effects on erectile and urinary function. However, medium and long-term data on cancer-specific and recurrence-free survival are still lacking.Testicular torsion is an emergency, and unless there is an urgent intervention, irreversible ischaemic damage and gonad loss occur in the testicle. We aimed to investigate myricetin's antioxidant properties as well as its protective effect against ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) damage in the testicular torsion model. A total of 18 rats were divided into three equal groups. Group 1 was the sham group. Group 2 testicular torsion was performed, and orchiectomy was done 2 hr after detorsion. Group 3 received torsion and 1 mg/kg intraperitoneal myricetin was given 30 min before detorsion, and orchiectomy was applied 2 hr after detorsion. We evaluated tissue malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, and catalase levels and Johnsen Testicular Biopsy Score to show its histopathological effect. There was a statistically significant decrease in MDA values in myricetin group compared to Group 2 (p less then .017). There was no significant difference in the statistical analysis of SOD and CAT values (p = .337 and p = .025). MK-0159 inhibitor There was a statistically significant difference in testicular I/R damage in the myricetin group compared to Group 1 and Group 2 (p less then .017). Myricetin treatment significantly decreased testicular tissue damage compared to the torsion group but did not reach the values close to the control group.
Obesity is an important risk factor for chronic diseases and can also result in greater mortality. The aim of this longitudinal study was to investigate whether poor oral health acts as a risk factor for obesity as indicated by body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC).
We included in this analysis all participants who volunteered in a cohort study entitled 'Carlos Barbosa Cohort Study-CBCS' in the city of Carlos Barbosa, Southern Brazil. The interview questionnaire comprised socio-demographic information, behavioural questions and medical history. Oral examinations and anthropometric assessments were carried out. The outcome was obesity measured by both BMI (≥30kg/m
) and WC (>0.80 for women and >0.94 for men). Variables were collected longitudinally. Those associated with the outcome and epidemiologically relevant to the conceptual framework participated in the analysis and were adjusted for socio-demographic, behavioural, general and oral health conditions.
Six hundred and thirty-three independently living elders participated. The baseline mean age was 67.5±6.1 years. Individuals who never visited a dentist (OR=3.02, 95% CI 1.25-7.26) as well as participants who needed a dental prosthesis in the lower arch (OR=4.38, 95% CI 1.34-14.32) were more likely to be obese, through BMI and WC measures, respectively. Edentulous participants with complete dentures in both arches (OR=0.23, 95% CI 0.06-0.84) and those who perceived their oral health as unsatisfactory (OR=0.41, 95% CI 0.19-0.88) had a lower likelihood of being obese, according to BMI and WC measures.
Older persons with poor oral health may be at risk for general and central obesity, a relationship that may have important clinical implications.

People with dementia living in the community, that is in their own homes, are often not engaged in meaningful activities. Activities tailored to their individual interests and preferences might be one approach to improve quality of life and reduce challenging behaviour.
To assess the effects of personally tailored activities on psychosocial outcomes for people with dementia living in the community and their caregivers. To describe the components of the interventions. To describe conditions which enhance the effectiveness of personally tailored activities in this setting.
We searched ALOIS the Cochrane Dementia and Cognitive Improvement Group's Specialized Register on 11 September 2019 using the terms activity OR activities OR occupation* OR "psychosocial intervention" OR "non-pharmacological intervention" OR "personally-tailored" OR "individually-tailored" OR individual OR meaning OR involvement OR engagement OR occupational OR personhood OR "person-centred" OR identity OR Montessori OR community OR ambople with dementia, as well as caregivers' quality of life and burden, we found no clear benefits of personally tailored activities.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) subtypes may carry different cardiovascular risk profiles, but information on their frequency from population-based studies is lacking. We estimated prevalence of AF subtypes in a representative sample of the Italian older population, projecting figures for Italy and the European Union.
Cross-sectional study.
Three primary care practices in northern, central, and southern Italy.
All individuals aged 65 years or older, for a total sample of 6,016 subjects. Excluding 235 noneligible, participation was 78.3%, which left 4,528 participants.
A double systematic and opportunistic screening procedure identified possible AF cases, followed by clinical and electrocardiogram confirmation. Patients were categorized with paroxysmal, persistent, or permanent AF. Prevalence was calculated by sex and 5-year age groups. Prevalence figures were applied to population projections for all 28 European Union states to estimate AF subtypes expected in future decades.
In the 4,528 participants (mean age = 74.
