Glial tumors in the cerebellopontine angle (CPA) are uncommon and comprise less than 1% of CPA tumors. We present four cases of pilocytic astrocytoma of the CPA (PA-CPA) that were treated in our department. Patients who received surgical treatment for PA-CPA from January 2004 to December 2019 were identified by a computer search of their files from the Department of Neurosurgery, Tübingen. Patients were evaluated for initial symptoms, pre- and postoperative facial nerve function and cochlear function, complications, and recurrence rate by reviewing surgical reports, patient documents, neuroradiological data, and follow-up data. We identified four patients with PA-CPA out of about 1500 CPA lesions (~ 0.2%), which were surgically treated in our department in the last 16 years. Of the four patients, three were male, and one was a female patient. Two were adults, and two were children (mean age 35 years). A gross total resection was achieved in three cases, and a subtotal resection was attained in one case. Two patients experienced a moderate facial palsy immediately after surgery (House-Brackmann grade III). In all cases, the facial function was intact or good (House-Brackmann grades I-II) at the long-term follow-up (mean follow-up 4.5 years). No mortality occurred during follow-up. Three of the patients had no recurrence at the latest follow-up (mean latest follow-up 4.5 years), while one patient had a slight recurrence. PA-CPA can be safely removed, and most complications immediately after surgery resolve in the long-term follow-up.The vigilance decrement in performance is a significant operational issue in various applied settings. Psychophysiological methods for diagnostic monitoring of vigilance have focused on power spectral density measures from the electroencephalogram (EEG). This article addresses the diagnosticity of an alternative set of EEG measures, coherence between different electrode sites. Coherence metrics may index the functional connectivity between brain regions that supports sustained attention. Coherence was calculated for seven pre-defined brain networks. Workload and time-on-task factors primarily influenced alpha and theta coherence in anterior, central, and inter-hemispheric networks. Individual differences in coherence in inter-hemispheric, left intro-hemispheric and posterior networks correlated with performance. These findings demonstrate the potential applied utility of coherence metrics, although several methodological limitations and challenges must be overcome.Inflammation and angiogenesis are two major contributors to tumourigenesis. Melilotus indicus is traditionally used as an anti-inflammatory agent. The current study was designed to investigate the anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic properties of ethanolic extract of M. indicus (Miet) whole plant and its marker compound (coumarin) using a series of in vivo methods. Extraction by maceration was adopted to prepare ethanolic extract. Phytochemical compounds present in Miet were investigated using both qualitative and quantitative methods. CQ inhibitor datasheet In vivo safety profile of Miet was investigated in behavioural studies. Four acute oedema models such as carrageenan, serotonin, histamine-induced paw oedema and xylene-induced ear oedema, and chronic formaldehyde-induced paw oedema model were employed to explore the anti-inflammatory potential of Miet. Chorioallantoic chick membrane assay (CAM) was performed to explore anti-angiogenic potential of Miet. Histopathological evaluations were conducted to access improvement in skin texture of paws. TNF-α ELISA kit was used to study effects of treatment on serum levels of TNF-α. Extraction by maceration resulted in formation of greenish coloured semisolid extract with a high coumarin content. In vivo toxicological studies revealed LD50 of Miet was greater than 8000 mg/kg. Data of acute inflammatory models depicted significant (p  0.05) downregulation of TNF-α in serum samples of animals treated with Miet and piroxicam was observed as compared with control group. Furthermore, Miet significantly halted blood vessels formation in CAM assay. Overall, data of the current study highlight that M. indicus has anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic potentials, and, thus, can potentially be used as an adjuvant therapy in solid tumours management.Transgender women are at higher risk of HIV infection, however, there is a lack of information about HIV infection and related factors among transgender women in Vietnam. From February 2018 to June 2018, 456 transgender women were recruited in the study using Respondent-Driven Sampling technique. Participants completed the computer-based questionnaire and were tested for HIV serostatus. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify factors related to HIV infection. The prevalence of HIV infection was 77 (16.5%), of which 19 (24.7%) were not aware of their HIV-positive status prior to the study. Factors associated with HIV infection included popper use (aOR 2.01, p = 0.044) and having regular male partner(s) (aOR 0.42, p = 0.006). More efforts are needed to reduce the high prevalence of HIV infection, such as expanding the reach of HIV screening and prevention programs to the transgender women population, particularly for substance users.Despite the high HIV incidence among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China, over half of MSM have never been tested for HIV before (MSMNT). Through a serial cross-sectional study from 2012 to 2016 in Shenyang, China, we studied 1036 MSMNT, and diagnosed 16.2% (168/1036) with HIV. The percentage of MSMNT who had condomless anal intercourse (CAI) in the past year increased from 42.1% (130/309) in 2012 to 63.4% (102/161) in 2016 (P  less then  0.001). 61.9% (104/168) of HIV-positive MSMNT had CAI and this percentage remained constant for the study period (P = 0.593). 53.3% (463/868) of HIV-negative MSMNT had CAI and this percentage significantly increased over the study period (P  less then  0.001). Encouraging HIV testing in this key subset through online HIV risk self-evaluation tools and HIV self-testing kits may help mitigate the overall MSM HIV incidence.
