Objective For the first time, we administered reversing prism exposure to treat optic ataxia in a single patient with Balint-Holmes Syndrome (BHS), who also underwent specific trainings for simultanagnosia and ocular apraxia.Method and Results By an introduction and withdrawal experimental design, we observed that the active treatment periods improved patient's visuospatial defects and functional autonomy. Conclusions We thus provided a proof of principle supporting the use of reversing prism exposure in optic ataxia within an integrated and personalized rehabilitative approach for BHS.Background This survey aims to identify the relative value and the critical components of anesthesiology letters of recommendation(LORs) from the perspective of Program Directors (PDs) and Associate/Assistant Program Directors (APDs). Knowledge and insights originating from this survey might add to the understanding of the anesthesiology residency selection process and mitigate unintended linguistic biases.Methodology Anonymous online surveys were sent to anesthesiology PDs/APDs from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited anesthesiology residency Programs in the USA (US), as listed on the ACGME website and the American Medical Association Fellowship and Residency Electronic Interactive Database (AMA FREIDA) Residency Program Database. The survey authors were blinded to the identity of the respondents. Results 62 out of 183 (33.8%) invited anesthesiology PDs/APDs completed the survey anonymously. In our survey, LORs are reported as more important in granting an interview thaide, and applying comparative scales, with standardized vocabulary in the narrative LOR.Ultrasound (US)-guided central venous catheter (CVC) insertion is a procedure that carries the risk of significant complications. Simulation provides a safe learning atmosphere, but most CVC simulators are not available outside of simulation centers. To explore longitudinal trends in US-guided CVC insertion competency in internal medicine (IM) interns, we studied the use of a low-fidelity, gelatin-based, US-guided CVC insertion simulation model combined with a simulation curriculum. This prospective observational study of IM interns was performed over the course of one academic year. Interns (n = 56) underwent model-based, US-guided procedure simulation training program and a repeated training course prior to their intensive care unit (ICU) rotation. CVC insertion competency at different timepoints was recorded. Survey data about intern experience and attitudes were also collected. Out of the 56 interns initially trained, 40 were included in the final analysis. Across all outcomes, interns experienced skill atrophy between initial training and the beginning of their ICU month. However, by the end of the month, there was a significant improvement in competency as compared to initial procedural training, which then waned by the end of the intern year. Attitudes toward the model were generally positive and self-reported confidence improved throughout the course of the year and correlated with objective measures of competency. Over the course of their intern year, which included simulation training using a gelatin-based model, interns demonstrated consistent competency trends. The use of a gelatin-based CVC insertion simulation model warrants further study as an adjunctive aid to existing simulation training. This study used a two-wave, longitudinal design to examine the relationships between parenting behaviors (parental autonomy support, parental behavioral control, and parental psychological control) and Chinese adolescents' creativity, and the mechanism underlying the relationships. A total of 258 Chinese adolescents (mean age = 13.35, 48% girls) participated in the present study. The study measured the parenting behaviors received by the participants, their autonomous motivation, and creativity using the Parenting Scale, the Self-Regulatory Style Questionnaire-Academic, and the verbal and figural Divergent Thinking Tests, respectively. PHA-767491 Structural equation models revealed that parental autonomy support and parental behavioral control had positive effects on Chinese adolescents' creativity one year later, whereas the relationship between parental psychological control and creativity one year later was not significant. In addition, parental autonomy support and parental behavioral control contributed to adolescents' creativity through the mediating effect of autonomous motivation. Findings from the present study help clarify developmental pathways linking parenting behaviors to adolescents' creativity in Chinese culture.Meditation and hypnosis have both been found to attenuate pain; however, little is known about similarities and differences in the cognitive modulation of pain. Hypnotic and meditative states (e.g., mindfulness) reduce pain by sharing and overlapping multiple neuro-cognitive mechanisms, but they differ in many respects. While there are overlapping brain networks involved, the nature of these effects seems different. Both phenomena involve frontal modulation of pain-related areas. The role of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex appears to depend, in hypnosis, on the type of suggestion given and, in meditation, on the level of practice. Whereas the anterior cingulate cortex seems to be a key node in both hypnosis and meditation, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex appears to engage in hypnosis as a function of suggestion and, in meditation, as a function of proficiency.
To assess the effect on conception rate to first service, 3- and 6-week in-calf rates, final pregnancy rate and the hazard of pregnancy, of addition of a second prostaglandin (PG) injection 24 hours after the first, in a synchrony programme combining Ovsynch and progesterone in pasture-based dairy cows that had not been detected in oestrus before the start of the seasonal mating period.

This prospective, negative-controlled study was conducted using anoestrous cows (n = 1,411) from nine spring-calving dairy herds in the Waikato region of New Zealand. Ovaries of cows not detected in oestrus were examined by transrectal ultrasonography and the presence of a corpus luteum determined. All cows were then treated with an intravaginal progesterone-releasing device and injected I/M with gonadorelin (Day -9). Cows were injected I/M with cloprostenol at device removal (Day -2) and on Day -1 were injected with either water (single PG; n = 720), or cloprostenol (double PG; n = 692). On Day 0 cows were injected again with gonadorelin, unless previously detected in oestrus, and were inseminated on Day 1.
