To describe the perioperative characteristics and outcomes in dogs that underwent transperitoneal laparoscopic ureteronephrectomy (TLU) for primary renal neoplasia.
Short case series.
Seven client-owned dogs.
Medical records were reviewed and data extracted regarding perioperative characteristics and animal outcomes. TLU was performed using a single-port + 1 or multiple port techniques. Hemostatic clips or a vessel-sealing device were used for occlusion of renal hilar vessels. The ureter was occluded and transected close to the ureterovesicular junction and the tumor was placed in a specimen retrieval bag for extraction from the abdomen.
Preoperative contrast enhanced computed tomography (CECT) was performed in 6/7 dogs. Median estimated tumor volume measured from abdominal CECT removed by TLU was 32.42 cm
(interquartile range [IQR] 14.76-94.85). Median surgery time for TLU was 90 minutes (IQR 85-105). In one dog, elective conversion to open laparotomy was performed due to large tumor size. Median time to discharge was 31 hours (IQR 24-48). No major perioperative complications occurred and all dogs survived to discharge. Progression free survival in four dogs was 422 days (IQR 119-784).
TLU was performed for the extirpation of modest sized primary renal tumors with acceptable perioperative outcomes and a low complication rate.

TLU may be considered for the treatment of selected cases of primary renal neoplasia in dogs.The study was aimed to analyze the prevalence characteristics of non-16/18 high-risk human papillomaviruses (HR-HPV) and the related risks for cervical abnormalities in south Shanghai. A total of 2291 HPV women who had been referred for a colposcopy due to HPV infection from @@@@@2016.12 to 2019.6 were enrolled. Combined with liquid-based thin-layer cell test (TCT) and pathological results of cervical biopsy, the infection spectrum and pathogenic risk of non-16/18 HR-HPV in local population were investigated. The results showed that the single HR-HPV infection rate was significantly higher than that of multiple infection, and the five most frequently detected types were HPV16, HPV52, HPV18, HPV53, HPV58 in the group. The total proportion of non-16/18 HR-HPV infection was 68.22%, more than twice of HPV16/18. In cases with high-grade cervical intraepithelial lesions (HSIL) or cervical cancer, non-16/18 HR-HPV infections account for 50.84% (single infection 28.57%, multiple infection 22.27%). The risk of cervical abnormalities caused by single HPV infection was ranked as HPV16 > HPV52 > HPV18 = HPV58 > HPV51 > HPV53 = HPV56 > others. Notably, among non-16/18 HR-HPV infected patients with HSIL/cancer lesions, the omission diagnostic rate of TCT was 62.81%. The infection rate of non-16/18 HR-HPV in whole study population was much higher than that of 16/18 type, and the infection rate of the former was also slightly higher in patients with HSIL and cancer. Due to the high omission diagnostic rate of TCT, we suggest patients with persistent non-16/18 HPV infection should undergo colposcopy biopsy to reduce missed detection of HSIL and cancers.A new method to estimate the selected viscoelastic parameters of foods using damped vibration analysis is presented for the evaluation of fruits and baked products. A flat disk is attached to the flat sample surface using a laser rangefinder that measures the sample thickness in advance, and it is locked by a trigger. Next, the trigger is released to allow the probe to press the sample through the force of gravity. The damped vibration of the probe caused by the deformation of the food is measured by monitoring the displacement of the probe via a linear encoder. The bulk modulus and viscosity are estimated using the fractional Zener model and mass. Young's modulus (E) is estimated independently by determining the maximum velocity of the probe using Hooke's law. Poisson's ratio (ν), and the shear modulus and viscosity are calculated by employing the estimated E and bulk modulus. The bulk modulus, bulk viscosity, shear modulus, shear viscosity, and E of apples were found to be higher than those of bananas. The bulk modulus, bulk viscosity, E, and shear modulus for white bread were lower than those for pound cake, but the ν values were higher, whereas those of sponge cake were intermediate. After drying the baked products for 1 day, most of the parameters of the samples increased, but the value of ν for white bread decreased. The proposed free-falling device estimated the four viscoelastic coefficients, Poisson's ratio, and Young's modulus of the food sample in less than 1 s.
Advanced genetic testing including next-generation sequencing (AGT/NGS) has facilitated DNA testing in the clinical setting and greatly expanded new gene discovery for the Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathies and other hereditary neuropathies (CMT/HN). Herein, we report AGT/NGS results, clinical findings, and diagnostic yield in a cohort of CMT/HN patients evaluated at our neuropathy care center.
We reviewed the medical records of all patients with suspected CMT/HN who underwent AGT/NGS at the Hospital for Special Care from January 2017 through January 2020. Patients with variants reported as pathogenic or likely pathogenic were included for further clinical review.
We ordered AGT/NGS on 108 patients with suspected CMT/HN. Of these, pathogenic or likely pathogenic variants were identified in 17 patients (diagnostic yield, 15.7%), including 6 (35%) with PMP22 duplications; 3 (18%) with MPZ variants; 2 (12%) with MFN2 variants; and 1 each with NEFL, IGHMBP2, GJB1, BSCL2, DNM2, and TTR variants. Diagnostic yield increased to 31.
