Bird Beak Toenail: Scenario Record along with Review of Parrot Beak Claw Dystrophy.
The growing popularity of haemostatics and sealants in surgery means that they are currently used in a wide range of indications, and surgeons are more and more willing to use them even in case of standard surgical procedures, which is reflected in the available studies. Choosing a haemostat should be a conscious decision, taking into account the site and type of bleeding, mechanism of action, ease of use, efficacy, safety, and price, among others. Background Acute mesenteric ischaemia (AMI) is a catastrophic abdominal emergency characterized by sudden critical interruption to the intestinal blood flow which commonly leads to bowel infarction and death. AMI still has a poor prognosis with an in-hospital mortality rate of 50-69 %. This high mortality rate is related to the delay in diagnosis which is often diffucult and overlooked. Early intervention is crucial and the potential for intestinal viability.
Methods The charts of 140 patients who were hospitalazed with AMI between May 1997 and August 2013 in Ege University Faculty of Medicine, department of general surgery were retrospectively reviewed. Demographical and clinical features of patients determining the best predictors which effect on morbidity and mortality were evaluated by Multiple Logistic Regression analysis by Enter method after adjustment for all possible confounding factors.
Results After Multiple LR analysis by Enter method after adjustment for all possible confounding factors affecting morbidity; shock, exploration and stay in hospital were statistically significant. selleck products Age, cardiac comorbidities, ASA scores, the time delay between onset of acute abdominal pain to surgery, the presence of acidosis and shock, the involved organs (small bowel and both), type of surgery and medical treatment and small bowel length under 100 cm were statistically significant on mortality.
Conclusion Risk factors related to mortality and morbidity have been poorly analyzed due to lack of prospective studies and smaller number of patients. Early diagnosis generally depends on clinical awareness and suspicion. Age and time of delay between onset of acute abdominal pain to surgery longer than 24 hours are the most important parameters that predict the mortality for patients presenting with shock and acidosis.Introduction The perforation of gloves during surgical procedures is quite common. A cheap and quite effective method of reducing the risk of blood-borne infections is wearing two pairs of gloves. Unfortunately, some surgeons are reluctant to it, and they report decreased dexterity and sensation. The aim of the study was to evaluate surgeons' double-gloving practices to determine the factors related to compliance.
Material and methods An anonymous, 21-question survey in Polish was sent by post to 41 surgical departments. The questions concerned demographic data, type of surgical gloves used, allergy to latex, number of surgeries performed, frequency of using double gloves and negative impressions from using them and finally, the frequency of needlestick injuries during surgical procedures.
Results We received 179 questionnaires back. More than 62% of the surgeons believe that double gloves provide better protection than a single pairization.Introduction Proctocolectomy with ileal pouch-anal anastomosis is the gold standard in the surgical treatment of patients with ulcerative colitis, familial adenomatous polyposis and other colorectal diseases requiring colectomy. The treatment consists in removing the large intestine and creating an intestinal reservoir from the last ileum loop and then anastomosing the intestinal reservoir with the anal canal. Like any surgical procedure, RPC-IPAA also carries the risk of complications, both early and late. Late postoperative complications include sexual dysfunction.
Aim The main goal of the following work is to assess the quality of life and sexual activity in patients having undergone the RPC-IPAA procedure at the General and Colorectal Surgery Clinic.
Material and methods The study group consisted of patients aged 19-79 who had been subjected to RPC-IPAA procedures at the General and Colorectal Surgery Clinic in years 2010-2019. Tisorder within the intimate region, fecal incontinence, and urinary incontinence.
Conclusions To sum up, sexual activity and quality of sexual life deteriorated after RPC-IPAA in our patients.
Pilonidal sinus is a disease affecting young age group. Numerous surgical methods have been described in the treatment of pilonidal sinus disease. Currently, there is no treatment method providing a rapid recovery with low recurrence risk.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the results of our patients who underwent Karydakis surgery.

Results of 112 patients operated between 2012 and 2019 were retrospectively evaluated. Only the patients who underwent Karydakis surgery were included in the study.

Of all patients, 20 were female and 92 were male. The mean age was 21 years in the female and 20.8 years in the male patients. The mean BMI was 29.6 Kg/m2. Thye patients were followed up for mean 28 months. Postoperative length of stay in hospital was 2.1 days. The complications included wound dehiscence by 10.2%, infection by 3.6%, and bleeding (hematome) by 7.1%. Four patients developed recurrence during follow up.

Karydakis surgery is a preferable surgical technique with low rates of complications and recurrence.

Daily new COVID-19 cases from January to April 2020 demonstrate varying patterns of SARS-CoV-2 transmission across different geographical regions. Constant infection rates were observed in some countries, whereas China and South Korea had a very low number of daily new cases. In fact, China and South Korea successfully and quickly flattened their COVID-19 curve. To understand why this was the case, this paper investigated possible aerosol-forming patterns in the atmosphere and their relationship to the policy measures adopted by select countries.

The main research objective was to compare the outcomes of policies adopted by countries between January and April 2020. Policies included physical distancing measures that in some cases were associated with mask use and city disinfection. We investigated whether the type of social distancing framework adopted by some countries (ie, without mask use and city disinfection) led to the continual dissemination of SARS-CoV-2 (daily new cases) in the community during the study period.
