China ranks second in the world in terms of numbers of tuberculosis (TB) cases and is one of the top three countries with the largest number of multidrug-resistant and rifampicin-resistant TB (MDR/RR-TB). It also has high mortality and low cure rates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive TB patients. This study aimed to analyse, under the integrated TB control model, the characteristics of TB patients seeking healthcare in the largest designated TB hospital in Chongqing.

This was a retrospective study of TB registers in a health facility. Record data of 1827 TB patients who had attended the Chongqing Public Health Medical Center (CPHMC) from 1 January to 31 December 2018 were included. The Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS 18.0; IBM Corporation, Armonk, NY, USA) was used to analyse the data. Counting data were compared using the chi-square test or Fisher' s exact test. Among the results of the univariate analysis, the variables with statistical significance were included in the binomiatible to DR-TB; young unemployed men have a higher risk of contracting HIV-positive TB. The demographic and clinical characteristics of TB patients should be taken into consideration in DR-TB and HIV-positive TB screening in the future.

Men with newly diagnosed biopsy-proven PCa who had been staged with a conventional staging protocol including bone scintigraphy (BS) and additionally underwent [
Ga]PSMA PET/CT, were evaluated retrospectively. Imaging findings from BS, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and/or CT were categorized regarding locoregional nodal (N) and distant metastasis (M) status as negative, positive or equivocal before and after addition of the information of PET/CT. Also, the imaging-based level of confidence (LoC) in correct assessment of N and M status was scored. Impact of PET/CT on clinical management was evaluated by the percentage of treatment category changes after PET/CT as determined in the multidisciplinary tumour board.

The blood-brain barrier has been a hindrance to developing blood-based diagnostic tests for dementias, as it limits the appearance of brain biomarkers in the blood. Our aim was to see if the natural opening of the blood-brain barrier induced by ischemic stroke would increase serum levels of inflammatory biomarkers known to be elevated in the brains of patients with Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative dementias.

Forty-three patients with acute ischemic stroke presenting to Stony Brook University Hospital were prospectively enrolled in the study. Eight of these patients were clinically diagnosed as having an underlying neurodegenerative dementia. Blood was drawn acutely within 72 h of stroke symptom onset, and serum levels of the classic inflammatory biomarkers, interleukin-6 (IL-6) and C-reactive protein (CRP) were measured, along with levels of S100B protein (S100B) and complement C3 (CC3).

Serum levels of IL-6 and CRP in patients with acute ischemic stroke and underlying dementia (AIS + D) were significantly higher (p = 0.002 and 0.003, respectively) than in patients with acute ischemic stroke alone (AIS). Serum levels of S100B and CC3 did not differ significantly between the groups.

This study supports the possibility that opening of the blood-brain barrier may enhance the blood appearance of brain tissue markers of inflammation associated with neurodegenerative dementia. Further study is warranted to test this possibility, given the recent emergence of methods to open the blood-brain barrier for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.
