To investigate the application of a metamorphic mechanism-based special dressing system (MMDS) in improving the prognosis and comfort of the patient after scrotal surgery.

We included 48 cases of scrotal surgery using the traditional method for postoperative dressing from June 2017 to June 2018 (the control group) and another 48 cases employing MMDS postoperatively from July 2018 to June 2019 (the MMDS group). The scrotal edema score showed no statistically significant difference between the MMDS and control groups at 24 hours after operation (P > 0.05) but remarkably lower in the former than in the latter group at 48 hours (1.42 ± 0.5 vs 2.27 ± 0.7, P < 0.05) and 72 hours postoperatively (1.35 ± 0.2 vs 2.25 ± 0.7, P < 0.05). The MMDS group, compared with the controls, also exhibited a lower pain score (2.2 ± 1.0 vs 3.4 ± 1.5, P < 0.05), shorter hospitalization time (［5.96 ± 1.2］ vs ［9.13 ± 2.3］ d, P < 0.05) and higher satisfaction score (98.1 ± 1.6 vs 92.8 ± 2.8, P < 0.05), as well as shorter dressing time at 24, 48 and 72 hours after operation (P < 0.05).

To explore the safety of modified sandwich urethral reconstruction (MSUR) in laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRP) and its effect on the early recovery of urinary continence.

We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on 20 patients treated by LRP with MSUR (the MSUR group) and another 21 cases of LRP without MSUR (the conventional control group) from January 2018 to September 2019. We compared the two groups of patients in the general data, anastomosis time, operation time and urinary continence recovery.

There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups of patients in the age, body mass index, Gleason scores, prostate volume and baseline PSA level (P > 0.05) or in operation time, intraoperative blood loss, drainage tube indwelling time, postoperative feeding time and postoperative hospital stay (P > 0.05). Anastomotic stenosis occurred in 1 case in the MSUR group postoperatively, which was cured after regular urethral dilation, and anastomotic fistula developed in 1 case in the control group, which was healed after 5 days of prolonged catheterization. The recovery rate of urinary continence at 12 weeks after catheter removal was significantly higher in the MSUR than in the control group (80.0% vs 47.6%, P < 0.05).

We collected the data on the age, pathological type and TCM syndrome type of 2 877 PCa patients diagnosed and treated in Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine and the Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Research Institute of Chinese Medicine from January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2019. To investigate the preventive effect of local injection of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) against iatrogenic anterior urethral stricture (IAUS) in New Zealand male rabbits.

Sixteen adult New Zealand male rabbits were randomly divided into an experimental and a control group of equal number. The model of IAUS was established in the rabbits by incision of the ventral urethra of the penile segment and electrocoagulation of the urethral mucosa. The rabbits of the experimental group were injected with 10 U of BTX-A solution and those of the control group with 1.0 ml of normal saline into the electrocoagulated submucosa of the urethra. At 30 days after modeling, retrograde urethrography was performed and the scarred urethral tissue harvested for HE and Masson staining.

No systemic symptoms of botulinum toxin poisoning were observed in either group of the rabbits. Retrograde urethrography showed statistically significant differences between the control and experimental groups in the diameter of the urethra (［0.15 ± 0.08］ vs ［0.50 ± 0.23］ cm, P < 0.05) and the stenosis ratio (3.68 ± 1.22 vs 1.29 ± 0.15, P < 0.05). Urethrography revealed obvious hyperplasia and contracture of urethral scar with high bulge and narrow urethral cavity, while HE and Masson staining exhibited absence or discontinuity of the urethral epithelium, submucosal fibrosis with infiltration of a large number of fibroblasts, and hyperplasia and thickening of collagen fibers (blue) in the control group. All the changes above were slight and the urethral epithelium was continuous in the experimental group.
