There is increasing demand among transgender individuals for minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, such as injectable facial fillers and neurotoxins, for facial remodeling and transformation. These procedures may increase transgender individuals' satisfaction with their appearance and allow them to more effectively harmonize their physical appearance with their perception of self. There is currently a lack of information in the medical literature regarding guidelines for the use of these products in transgender patients. In this report, the authors provide experience-based treatment considerations and recommendations for use of minimally invasive facial aesthetic procedures in transgender patients, including case studies illustrating the use of these procedures for both male-to-female and female-to-male transitioning patients. This report highlights the success of minimally invasive methods for assisting transgender patients in achieving their facial remodeling goals. Clinicians play an integral role in the transitioning process for transgender patients, and facial transformation is a key element of this process. When conducted with sensitivity and attention to individual patient goals at varying stages of transition, facial procedures can be of great benefit in enhancing patients' self-perception and overall quality of life.Nowadays, the most advanced skin anti-aging treatments are addressed to restore the extracellular matrix (ECM) homeostasis. ECM is considered the main player not only as physical support of the tegument but also at the biochemical level, thanks to its capacity to exchange nutrients, water, cellular mediators, and growth factors within and between cells. This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo efficacy and aesthetic performance of a brand-new intracutaneous filler. The latter is based on novel concepts besides filling it exerts a homeostatic balance of nutrients able to delay the skin aging process by sustaining physiological rejuvenation of the tissue and in the surrounding injection/implantation area. The brand-new intracutaneous filler was tested for in vitro capacity to stimulate extracellular matrix components production. Therefore, a single session for injection of the product under study was performed by a specialized dermatologist, using the bolus technique on the zygomatic protuberance of 20 healthy female subjects with midface volume loss, caused by aging. Results confirmed the important and long-term volumizing, anti-wrinkle, the hydrating activity of this product after one single injection session. The biological outcomes also support product effectiveness in skin structure restoration.Alopecia is a clinical condition related to hair loss that can significantly affect both male and female adults' quality of life. Despite the high market demand, only few drugs are currently approved for alopecia treatment. Topical formulations still bring drawbacks, such as scalp irritation with frequent use, and low drug absorption to the site of action, which limits the efficacy. The most recent research points out that different formulation technology could circumvent the aforementioned flaws. Such technology includes incorporation of drugs in rigid or deformable nanoparticles, strategies involving physical, energetical and mechanical techniques, such as iontophoresis, sonophoresis, microneedling, and the use of solid effervescent granules to be hydrated at the moment of application in the scalp. In this paper, the progress of current research on topical formulations dedicated to the treatment of alopecia is reviewed and discussed.
Tear trough deformity (TTD) is currently a major concern for many individuals that seek periorbital rejuvenation. Among the different options currently available for treating TTD, hyaluronic acid (HA) filler injections have become increasingly popular.
To provide a dual approach, direct and indirect strategies for treating TTD with HA fillers according to patient facial structure.
The current paper combined the authors' experience with the currently available scientific evidence.
The current study presents the authors clinical experience regarding TTD treatment and serves as a guide on the best therapeutic approach with HA fillers. For achieving good aesthetic outcomes, especially in TTD, it is crucial to have a detailed understanding of both facial anatomy and the individual characteristics of the HA fillers. Proper management of full-face facial rejuvenation should have into consideration three main pillars structure, contour, and refinement.
Treatment of TTD should be addressed from a comprehensir movement. Clinicians can benefit from ongoing guidance on the use of these products in order to tailor and optimize treatments to patient's requirements. Although HA filler injections have low rates of side effects, TTD was listed as the most challenging area to treat with HA. Therefore, TTD treatment should be performed only by well-trained and experienced specialists.
Poor lifestyle choices contribute to the continued growth of chronic illness and disability. Patients with diabetes require continuous self-care choices and management to minimize the short- and long-term impact of the disease. This study aimed at assessing the use of the health belief model to describe self-care practices among patients with diabetes.
An institutional-based cross-sectional study was conducted from February to March 2019 in Gondar City, Northwest Ethiopia. Piperidic acid A total of 396 diabetics patients were selected using a systematic random sampling technique. Pretested, structured, and interview administered questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected data were analyzed using STATA 14. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were fitted to identify the factors associated with self-care behavior. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) and p-values <0.05 were used to declare statistical association.
Health belief model described 48% of the variancere practice of diabetes patients in Gondar City was considerably low. Health professionals need to strengthen delivering tailored health messages on the benefit self-care practices and means of overcoming the potential barriers. Health communication programs are also better to consider for individuals with comorbidities, lack of social support, and lower education.
