A 74-year-old Asian woman, developed erythema on her face, back, and the back of her hands, 3weeks before attending our department. At the same time, she had noticed a right breast mass and redness of the skin of the breast. The clinical findings and vacuum aspiration biopsy diagnosed inflammatory breast cancer and neoadjuvant chemotherapy was performed. The mass and enlarged axillary lymph nodes had shrunk, therefore a total mastectomy was performed. The sentinel lymph node biopsy was negative. She was discharged 7days after surgery without any complications. She has received a postoperative aromatase inhibitor and is alive without recurrence. The dermatomyositis also began to improve with the start of her chemotherapy and has not recurred since the surgery.

This article reports the results of a survey undertaken to gauge knowledge, perceptions, opinions, and attitudes of Honduran farmers towards genetically modified (GM) maize. Data were collected from 32 maize producers in 2018-19, of both conventional and GM, in five different departments (regions) of Honduras. Results show that over 75% of interviewed farmers have significant knowledge of basic biotechnology concepts and GM maize. Overall, producers have a positive opinion about GM maize because yields are higher than conventional maize, and adopting farmers have higher incomes. A significant finding was the reduction in the number of necessary pesticide applications, 84% of interviewees who used GM maize did not apply any pesticides. Farmers indicate the two main reasons for using GM maize are higher incomes (48%) and ease of use of the crop (33%). A combination of technical and physiology factors are responsible in most cases and are discussed. There are currently no medical therapies that successfully halt or reverse the disease progression, making surgical replacement the only treatment currently available. The majority of patients will receive a bioprosthetic valve, which themselves are prone to degeneration and may also need replaced, adding to the already substantial healthcare burden of aortic stenosis. Echocardiography and computed tomography can identify late-stage manifestations of the disease process affecting native and bioprosthetic aortic valves but cannot detect or quantify early molecular changes. 18F-fluoride positron emission tomography, on the other hand, can non-invasively and sensitively assess disease activity in the valves. The current review outlines the pivotal role this novel molecular imaging technique has played in improving our understanding of native and bioprosthetic aortic valve disease, as well as providing insights into its feasibility as an important future research and clinical tool.
