Demonologi itu berasal dari bahasa Yunani.
Daemon (δαίμooν) = divinity, divine power, god = ilahi, kekuatan yang besar, sifat tuhan.
Logos (-λογία) = ilmu / studi.
Demonologi adalah studi dan klasifikasi serta sifat – sifat pada demon secara sistematis. Studi demonologi menjadi suatu studi dengan konsep yang imajinatif, karena demon sendiri adalah suatu entitas yang imajiner dan sangat tidak mungkin untuk dihubungkan dengan akal sehat.
Kenapa sih kita harus belajar demonology? Emang ada hubungannya dengan exorcist?
Tentu ada hubungannya. Para exorcist itu merupakan orang yang diyakini dapat mengusir iblis atau setan untuk mengusir setan atau iblis, maka para exorcist harus tau seperti apa iblis itu, sifat-sifatnya bagaimana, apa yang mereka inginkan, atau mencari kelemahannya.
Semuanya itu tentu ada dalam ilmu demonologi, makanya para exorcist itu pasti memiliki ilmu demonologi yg sangat dalam.
Demonology dan demonolatry beda ya. demonolatry yaitu ritual ritual yg digunakan utk berhubungan dgn demon secara langsung, utk kepentingan apapun itu.
