What I plan to do with my future, hopefully in politics:

So far what I have decided for my political career is I will identify as a republican.

For HS: Worry about getting great grades, especially in the Social Studies field. Participate in a lot of extra curricular activities.

For College: There will be numerous classes related to politics.
You can study any major, many do political science. Do things like mock trial or debate club. You'll probably be going to law school.

Tips if I do indeed find a career in politics:
Get to know local voters and what they expect from elected officials.

Write letters about pressing issues to the editors of local newspapers to become a familiar name.

Secure a job or internship with an elected official after the election, or volunteer to mail newsletters or answer phones.

Attend local meetings of your city council, school board, and public works or parks commissions and learn about local issues. Brush up on parliamentary procedure, which is essential to know if you're going to be a politician.

Join non-partisan groups to monitor elections. Each precinct has a chairperson -- get elected or appointed as a precinct captain to get front and center in the process.

Network at political functions to meet powerful people and advocates for causes. Connect with someone who can mentor your eventual run for office.

Assemble a team from your network of campaign workers who have proven their dedication to you and start planning your campaign. It comes down to who you know, so ask contributors who share your views to help fund your run.

Clean up any dirty laundry that might compromise an election. Keep in mind that nothing in life will be private once your campaign is announced. Think the implications through before diving in.

Chris Christie, former New Jersey Governor and 2016 presidential candidate whom later endorsed Donald Trump and was a candidate for his vice presidency, said he got into politics by going to one of his school council meetings and listening to a candidate for Governor speak and later said he wanted to get involved and help him out somehow. Later in the day his mother drove him over to the Governor's house because he happened to live in the same town as Christie. Although he was nervous, he went up to the door and rang the doorbell and the Governor was like "Who are you?". And Mr. Christie explained. After that, the Governor walked out to Mr. Christie's mother's car and asked if Chris could come with him to a "debate" type thing for Governor, and since then Christie was hooked. 30+ years later the same Governor that got Christie hooked endorsed him for Governor. Currently I am 13 years old and I will hope an opportunity like this presents itself.
