This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to summarize and synthesize the available evidence in adult Chinese cardiac patients to determine the effect of education interventions on health behaviours, disease-related knowledge, self-efficacy, depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, health-related quality of life, morbidity, and mortality.
Seven databases were searched from database inception until January 2020 for randomized controlled trials. Characteristics of education interventions were described and random-effects meta-analysis was performed where feasible.
Overall, 18 randomized controlled trials were included in this systematic review and suggested that education interventions are effective in improving patients' physical activity, dietary habits, medication behaviour, disease-related knowledge, and health-related quality of life. This study supports the benefits of education interventions for adult Chinese cardiac patients on health behaviours, disease-related knowledge, and health-related quality of life. Future studies should characterize their education interventions in detail to facilitate reproducibility and comparison.

To compare the Meta-Analysis Global Group in Chronic Heart Failure (MAGGIC) risk score with the established Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) and EuroSCORE II risk prediction models regarding mortality discrimination after aortic and mitral valve surgery.

MAGGIC, STS, and EuroSCORE II risk scores for each patient were studied using binary logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic analysis for the primary endpoint of one-year mortality and secondary endpoint of 30-day mortality. One-year mortality C-statistics were similar across risk scores (STS 0.709, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.578-0.841; MAGGIC 0.673, 95% CI 0.547-0.799; EuroSCORE II 0.642, 95% CI 0.521-0.762; p = 0.56 between STS and MAGGIC; p = 0.20 between STS and EuroSCORE II; and p = 0.69 between MAGGICs over STS and EuroSCORE II.
Modular tibial stem extensions in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are designed to reduce the risk of aseptic loosening of the tibial base plate. However, these implants add significant cost and an evaluation of their effectiveness in reducing this risk of loosening has not been studied in a large cohort. We sought to evaluate modular tibial stem utilization in primary TKA.
We conducted a cohort study using our integrated healthcare system's Total Joint Replacement Registry. Patients who underwent cemented primary TKA were identified (2009-2019). Propensity scores were used to 11 match patients without to those with a stem extension. Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to evaluate the risk for revision due to aseptic loosening.
