Moreover, we could infer that this effect is probably due to the natural selenium content of the BN.Objectives In the current study, we aimed at evaluating the effect of a culturally-based pre-Ramadan education program (PREP) on glycemic control, weight, adherence to post-sunset physical activity, perception of hypoglycemia, and anti-diabetic medication dose adjustment during Ramadan fasting in type 2 diabetics. Study design A total of 1008 type 2 Diabetes patients were offered a culturally-based PREP in addition to the standard of care, two months before Ramadan. A retrospective interview one month after Ramadan compared the fasting experience of PREP attendees (470 patients) with those who merely received standard of care (538 patients) (Non-PREP). Results Ramadan fasting improved glycemic control with a correlation between HbA1c percent reduction and the number of fasting days (r = -0.290, p = 0.007). More HbA1c and weight percent reduction were observed in PREP attendees compared to the Non-PREP group (-14.8% ± 9.3 vs. -5.4% ± 5.4; p 20 nights vs 28.4%; p less then 0.001) with more HbA1c and weight peow-dosing of antidiabetic medications, especially insulin. Objectives To introduce bibliometric features of Iranian documents on microbiota and to provide descriptive information about retrieved documents related to the medical sciences and documents utilizing molecular techniques for microbiota detection. Methods This is a descriptive bibliometric study of all Iranian documents on microbiota in any language that were indexed in Scopus before 7 September 2019. We assessed the research performance through statistical analysis of the bibliometric indicators, including number of publications, citations, institutions and journals activities, co-citations and bibliographic couplings, and network analysis of co-authorships, countries' collaborations, terms and keywords. Results We extracted 425 relevant documents, 260 of which pertain to the medical sciences. The most focused microbiota modulating interventions and diseases in 33 clinical trials are 'synbiotics' (n = 8) and 'probiotics' (n = 8), and 'Obesity' (n = 3) and 'non-alcoholic fatty liver disease' (n = 3), respectively. During the last decade, Iranian microbiota publications have increasingly grown with a constant upward slope, particularly in the area of medical sciences after 2016. Citation counting reveals that originals and reviews have been cited 4221 times, with an average 10.76 citations and H-index of 34. The most significant performance in publishing Iranian microbiota documents belongs to 'Tehran University of Medical Sciences' as the active institution (n = 89 publications) and the supporting sponsor (n = 19), 'Microbial Pathogenesis' as the productive journal (n = 12), 'Seidavi A' as the most authorships (n = 19), and 'the United States' as the collaborative country (n = 46). Conclusions The qualitative and quantitative information of this study will be a practical guidance for future study planning and policy-decision making.Purpose Chronic hyperglycemia and deficiency of insulin are peculiar features of diabetes mellitus alters glycoprotein levels in various tissues leads to impaired metabolism of glycoproteins which play a major role in the pathogenesis of diabetic complications. Boswellia ovalifoliolata is a medicinal plant known for its many medicinal properties including diabetes. In this background our study was aimed to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of stem bark of Boswellia ovalifoliolata (AESBBO) on antidiabetic and glycoprotein metabolism. Methods Diabetes was induced in rats by intraperitoneal administration of streptozotocin at a dose of 50 mg/kg bw. After induction of diabetes rats were treated with AESBBO at dosage of 200 mg/kg for a long term treatment of 40 days. Finally, by the end of study all the rats were dissected blood, liver, and kidney tissue samples were collected to investigate the long term effects of AESBBO on diabetes and glycoprotein metabolism. Results Treatment with AESBBO significantly reduced the fasting blood glucose levels whereas the levels of insulin and hemoglobin were increased with decreased levels of glycosylated hemoglobin. The long term treatment of AESBBO significantly decreased the levels of plasma, liver and kidney tissue glycoproteins such as fucose, hexose, hexosamine and sialic acid. Conclusions This study concludes that the aqueous extract of stem bark of Boswellia ovalifoliolata possesses a protective role on abnormal glycoprotein metabolism in addition to its antihyperglycemic activity.Purpose Diabetes and its complications such as diabetic cardiomyopathy still account for significant morbidity and mortality. High-quality evidence was shown the importance of exercise in controlling diabetes complications, but the molecular mechanism on diabetic cardiomyopathy is not yet fully understood. This study aimed to compare and investigate the effect of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and continuous endurance training (CET) on the signaling pathway of diabetic cardiomyopathy. Methods Hence, 21 Wistar rats with an average weight of 260 ± 10 g, after induction of diabetes (STZ 50 mg/kg BW) were randomly divided into three groups (control, CET and HIIT; n = 7). Training programs were conducted 5 days a week for 5 weeks. CET program was defined as running at 60% vVO2max for 30 min in each session and the HIIT program was defined as running at 85-90% vVO2max for 3 min followed by 1 min recovery (30-35% vVO2max), that was repeated four times in each session. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/bix-01294.html The cardiac performance was analyzed via determination of end systolic and diastolic dimensions and the ejection fraction by echocardiography. To elucidate the responsible molecular mechanism of miR-1, IGF-1 and IGF-1R mRNA and apoptosis marker protein expression were investigated. Results Both training programs specifically HIIT, significantly reduced the blood glucose, enhanced heart performance, reduced miR-1 expression, induced IGF-1 and IGF-1R expression and reduced apoptotic protein expression. Conclusion We showed that HIIT is more effective than CET for reduction of diabetic cardiomyopathy as a complication of diabetes in animal models through suppressing miR-1 and its downstream apoptosis pathway.
