To characterize epidemiologically eye trauma in the municipality of Santa Rosa Del Sur, Bolívar, Colombia from June 2015 to May 2016.
A descriptive observational study of eye injuries was performed in patients recruited consecutively. Trauma characterization was performed following the international Birmingham Eye Trauma Terminology System (BETTS) classification and incorporating ocular adnexa and burns. Injury causes, sociodemographic and clinical variables were included.
There were 146 people with eye trauma (149 eyes) during the calendar year. The incidence was 3.61 per 1000 inhabitants 94% (136) were men, 50.34% (73) traumas in the right eye and three people with bilateral traumas. 71.72% of the injuries were occupational accidents, the highest frequency being among people between 25 and 34years of age 45 people, (31.03%); 8 children were affected. Applying the BETTS classification, there were 98.67% (147) with closed globe injury. Of these cases, 87.07% (128) were lamellar lacerations and 12.93% (19) contusions. The novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread worldwide. Herein, we aimed to clarify the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients presenting with diarrhea.
A descriptive design was adopted from Jan 10 to Feb 17, 2020. All the cases included were diagnosed with COVID-19 under the interim guidance of the WHO.
912 patients with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital, in which, 90 cases (9.87%) presented with diarrhea. Among the 90 cases, 8 cases (9%) presented with diarrhea as the initial symptom, and 24%, 17%, and 24% of the patients complained of nausea, vomiting, and poor appetite, respectively. The most common fecal characteristics on admission were watery stool (64%) and mushy stool (28%). For the defecation frequency, 37% of the cases defecated over three times a day. The median time from illness onset to diarrhea was 3.0days (IQR 0.0-5.0) and the median duration of diarrhea was 5.0days (IQR 2.0-9.3).
Clinicians are required to promptly identify the patients with initial diarrhea symptoms and pay adequate attention to the nutrient requirements of the patients with diarrhea during hospitalization. Standardized management is also recommended for the discharge of the patients to avoid potential fecal-oral transmission.

To determine if elderly patients (≥70years) have differences in functional and survival outcomes compared to non-elderly patients (<70years) following transoral robotic surgery.
A retrospective cohort study was conducted on patients undergoing robotic surgery for head and neck cancer at a tertiary institution from 2011 to 2016. Functional status was evaluated with diet, enteric feeding status, Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), tracheostomy tube placement, and unplanned readmission. Kaplan Meier method and Cox proportional hazard model were used to assess overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) between elderly and non-elderly patients.
Two hundred and forty-six patients met inclusion criteria. The mean age of the cohort was 63.5±9.74years. There were 64 patients (26.0%) that were ≥70years. Elderly patients were more likely to be discharged with enteric access (p<0.002). As early as 3months, there was no significant difference in need for enteric feeds, diet, or FOIS score. There was no difference in tracheostomy tube rates and unplanned readmission between both cohorts. There was no significant difference in OS and DFS between age groups when stratified by p16 status.

GTPase-activating protein (SH3 domain)-binding protein 1 (G3BP1) is a key component of SGs. However, whether IBDV infection induces SG formation in host cells and what role of G3BP1 plays in this process are unclear. We report here that IBDV infection initiated typical stress granule formation and enhanced G3BP1 expression in DF-1 cells. Our data show that knockdown of G3BP1 by RNAi markedly inhibited IBDV-induced SG formation and viral replication in DF-1 cells. Conversely, ectopic expression of G3BP1 enhanced IBDV-induced SG formation and significantly promoted IBDV replication in host cells. Thus, G3BP1 plays a critical role in IBDV-induced SG formation and viral replication, providing an important clue to elucidating how IBDV employs cellular SGs for its own benefits.
