Type 1 mimics Krukenberg tumors, type 2 mimics ovarian metastases from breast cancer, type 3 mimics primary ovarian endometrioid cancer, and type 4 mimics primary ovarian mucinous cancer, with a "stained glass appearance". Twenty-eight (58%) patients had bilateral metastases. Eleven patients (23%) underwent hysterectomy and/or pelvic lymph node dissection in addition to ovarian resection. Conclusion We introduced a novel classification system for ovarian metastases originating from colorectal cancer, which may be beneficial for assessing ovarian metastases from colorectal cancer and avoiding unnecessary surgery due to misdiagnosis of primary ovarian tumors.Transurethral endoscopic incision is an established treatment option for management of obstructing ureterocele. It can be performed using monopolar electrocautery or holmium laser as an energy source. The present study was carried out to evaluate outcomes of transurethral ureterocele incision (TUI) by two different energy sources, i.e., monopolar electrocautery versus holmium laser. A retrospective review of the data of all patients who underwent endoscopic TUI from 2007-2017 was performed. Preoperative clinical, biochemical, and radiological characteristics and operative parameters were reviewed and compared between the two groups. Associated stone in the ureterocele was fragmented using pneumatic lithotripter or Mauermeyer stone punch forceps in the electrocautery group and holmium laser in the laser group. click here Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS version 21.0. Chi-squared test was used for categorical/dichotomous variables. Unpaired t test was used for continuous variables. Out of total 44 patient lithotripsy with the same instruments with lesser morbidity and lower incidence of persistent reflux.Breast cancer (BC) is a heterogeneous and multifactorial disease. The system formed by glutathione-S-transferases (GSTs) acts to protect the organism against the oxidative stress generated by xenobiotics and their active products. Glutathione transferase mu 1 (GSTM1) and glutathione transferase theta 1 (GSTT1) present null polymorphic variants by complete deletion. The absence of these enzymes may influence the susceptibility to several diseases such as BC. This study aimed to systematically review and investigate the existence of a possible correlation between the presence/absence of these genetic variants and the development of BC and their influence in chemotherapy response. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol was used, and the searches were performed in the portal of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and the PubMed, resulting in 21 articles. It is clear that most studies revealed a risk association between the deletion of GSTM1 and/or GSTT1 and the development and/or prognosis of BC.Moreover, it should be noted that these results of risk association were found in large part in the populations of the Americas and Europe, followed by Asians. Regarding the response to treatment, protective associations were found in the presence of GSTM1 deletion. However, due to the inconclusive results of many studies, further analysis in this area is required.Papillomaviruses (PVs) are circular double-stranded DNA virus belonging to Papillomaviridae family. During the infection cycle, PVs translate proteins that can influence cell growth and differentiation, leading to epidermal hyperplasia and papillomas (warts) or malignant neoplasms. Canis familiaris papillomaviruses (CPVs) have been associated with different lesions, such as oral and cutaneous papillomatosis, pigmented plaques, and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). Here, we report a clinical case of a mixed bred female dog with pigmented plaques induced by CPV16 (Chipapillomavirus 2) that progressed to in situ and invasive SCCs. Gross and histological findings were characterized, and the lesions were mainly observed in ventral abdominal region and medial face of the limbs. In situ hybridization (ISH) revealed strong nuclear hybridization signals in the neoplastic epithelial cells, as well as in the keratinocytes and koilocytes of the pigmented viral plaques. The full genome of the CPV16 recovered directly from the lesions was characterized, and the phylogenetic relationships were determined. The identification of oncoprotein genes (E5, E6, and E7) by high throughput sequencing (HTS) and their expected domains are suggestive of the malignant transformation by CPV16.This study examined whether daily stressors and continuously monitored glucose levels and glucose variability predict daily diabetes symptoms. Fifty Latinos with type 2 diabetes were randomized to either diabetes education (DE-only; N = 23) or DE plus stress management and relaxation training (DE + SMR; N = 32). After treatment, for 7 days they wore 'blinded' continuous glucose monitors and reported common stressors and diabetes symptoms twice daily. Between individuals, participants with more numerous overall stressors and more time in hyperglycemia reported higher symptoms. Within individuals, symptoms were higher during intervals of greater than usual stressors. Yet, diabetes symptoms did not covary with changes in glucose levels or glucose variability. The within-person stressor-symptom association was stronger among older individuals and non-significant for participants in DE + SMR condition. Diabetes symptoms were associated with recent stressor exposure, but not recent glucose level or changes in glucose. CLINICAL TRIAL NUMBER ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier (No. NCT01578096).Rationale Pavlovian conditioned approach paradigms are used to characterize the nature of motivational behaviors in response to stimuli as either directed toward the cue (i.e., sign-tracking) or the site of reward delivery (i.e., goal-tracking). Recent evidence has shown that activity of the endocannabinoid system increases dopaminergic activity in the mesocorticolimbic system, and other studies have shown that sign-tracking behaviors are dependent on dopamine. Objectives Therefore, we hypothesized that administration of a cannabinoid agonist would increase sign-tracking and decrease goal-tracking behaviors. Methods Forty-seven adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were given a low, medium, or high dose of the cannabinoid agonist CP-55,940 (N = 12 per group) or saline (N = 11) before Pavlovian conditioned approach training. A separate group of rats (N = 32) were sacrificed after PCA training for measurement of cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) and fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH) using in situ hybridization. Results Contrary to our initial hypothesis, CP-55,940 dose-dependently decreased sign-tracking and increased goal-tracking behavior.
