A descriptive observational study was conducted of 111 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. The criteria for inclusion in the study were that patients should be aged 18 years or more and have at least 10 years' history of diabetes mellitus.

Neighborhood walkability has been established as a potentially important determinant of various health outcomes that are distributed inequitably by race/ethnicity and sociodemographic status. The objective of this study is to assess the differences in walkability across major urban centers in the U.S.

City- and census tract-level differences in walkability were assessed in 2020 using the 2019 Walk Score across 500 large cities in the U.S.

At both geographic levels, high-income and majority White geographic units had the lowest walkability overall. Walkability was lower with increasing tertile of median income among majority White, Latinx, and Asian American and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander neighborhoods. However, this association was reversed within majority Black neighborhoods, where tracts in lower-income tertiles had the lowest walkability. Associations varied substantially by region, with the strongest differences observed for cities located in the South.

Although induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell-derived cardiac constructs may have a potential in cardiomyogenesis of a distressed myocardium, obtaining polarity in cardiac constructs, such as via myocyte alignment, may be crucial to achieve a maximum contractile force for better clinical outcomes. Aligned cardiac tissues were developed by culturing high-purity iPS cell-derived cardiomyocytes in xeno-free conditions and transplanting them into infarct porcine hearts (iPS-CM group, n=7; control, n=6). Three months after treatment, therapeutic efficacy was evaluated functionally and histologically.

In vitro assessment revealed that the aligned cardiac tissue containing high purity cardiomyocytes contracted homogeneously and had excellent mechanical properties. In the in vivo study, the left ventricular ejection fraction of the iPS-CM group was significantly greater than that of the control group, 3 months after transplantation (37.8% ± 2.3% vs 28.3% ± 2.5%, p < 0.05). Pathologically, attenuated interstitial fibrosis, attenuation of hypertrophied cardiomyocytes, and an increased capillary density were also prominent in the iPS-CM group. A limited amount of engraftment of the transplanted tissue maintaining tissue alignment was observed at 2 weeks after transplantation.

Gender diverse individuals constitute a substantial yet still understudied population. Particularly little is known about gender non-binary people whose health needs have only recently gained attention from clinicians.

To investigate needs for gender-affirming interventions, selected health indicators and determinants in Polish gender non-binary individuals as compared to transgender men and transgender women.

We analyzed a subset of data from an online study on health in members of the Polish LGBTQ community. The sample consisted of 53 persons who self-identified as non-binary and 45 transgender men and transgender women. The uptake and the desire for gender-affirming medical interventions as well as selected health indicators were compared in non-binary and transgender persons. Additionally, regression models were conducted for depression, self-esteem and somatic symptoms severity as dependent variables, age as a covariate, and perceived stigma exposure, resilience and discomfort associated with current gender expression as predictors.
