To evaluate diagnostic performance of loss of nigral hyperintensity on SWI in differentiating idiopathic Parkinson's disease (IPD) or primary parkinsonism (including IPD and Parkinson-plus syndrome) from healthy/disease controls.
MEDLINE/PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched to identify original articles investigating the diagnostic performance of loss of nigral hyperintensity for differentiating IPD or primary parkinsonism from healthy/disease control, up to April 3, 2020. Pooled sensitivity and specificity were calculated using a bivariate random-effects model. The proportion of nondiagnostic scan, inter- and intrareader agreement, and the proportion of concordance between clinical laterality and imaging asymmetry were also pooled.
Nineteen articles covering 2125 patients (1097 with primary parkinsonism, 1028 healthy/disease controls) were included. For discrimination between IPD and healthy/disease controls, pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.96 (95% CI, 0.91-0.98) and 0.95 (95% CI, 0.92-0 sensitivity and specificity of loss of nigral hyperintensity were 0.87 and 0.93. Preoperative embolization of hypervascular spinal metastases (HSM) is efficient to reduce perioperative bleeding. However, intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IA-DSA) must confirm the hypervascular nature and rule out spinal cord arterial feeders. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and accuracy of time-resolved contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance angiography (TR-CE-MRA) in assessing HSM prior to embolization.
All consecutive patients referred for preoperative embolization of an HSM were prospectively included. TR-CE-MRA sequences and selective IA-DSA were performed prior to embolization. Two readers independently reviewed imaging data to grade tumor vascularity (using a 3-grade and a dichotomized "yes vs no" scale) and identify the arterial supply of the spinal cord. Interobserver and intermodality agreements were estimated using kappa statistics.
Thirty patients included between 2016 and 2019 were assessed for 55 levels. Interobserver agreement was moderate (κ = 0.52; 95% CI [0.0 in the pretherapeutic assessment of the spinal cord vascular anatomy.
• TR-CE-MRA aids in distinguishing hypervascular from non-hypervascular spinal metastases. • TR-CE-MRA could avoid one-quarter of patients referred for HSM embolization to undergo futile conventional angiography. • TR-CE-MRA's spatial resolution is insufficient to replace IA-DSA in the pretherapeutic assessment of the spinal cord vascular anatomy.
To investigate the efficacy and safety of prostatic artery embolization (PAE) vs. transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) in patients affected by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). We also reviewed mean changes from baseline in PAE at selected follow-up points.
PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase were searched up to May 1, 2020. Randomized controlled trials on PAE were collected according to specific inclusion and exclusion criteria. Meta-analyses were performed using RevMan 5.3, STATA 14, and GraphPad Prism 8. Pooled patient-reported scores and functional outcomes were calculated by using a fixed or random-effect model.
Eleven articles met our selection criteria and ten independent patient series were included in the final analysis. Pooled estimates suggested no significant difference between TURP and PAE for patient-reported outcomes including International Prostate Symptom Score (2.32 (- 0.44 to 5.09)) and quality of life (0.18 (- 0.41 to 0.77)) at 12months. PAE was less effective regarding im with fewer complications and shorter hospitalization times. • PAE is inferior to TURP in the improvement of most functional outcomes. • Improvements due to PAE are durable during follow-up to 24 months.
To assess the feasibility of a CNN-based liver registration algorithm to generate difference maps for visual display of spatiotemporal changes in liver PDFF, without needing manual annotations.
This retrospective exploratory study included 25 patients with suspected or confirmed NAFLD, who underwent PDFF-MRI at two time points at our institution. PDFF difference maps were generated by applying a CNN-based liver registration algorithm, then subtracting follow-up from baseline PDFF maps. The difference maps were post-processed by smoothing (5 cm
round kernel) and applying a categorical color scale. Two fellowship-trained abdominal radiologists and one radiology resident independently reviewed difference maps to visually determine segmental PDFF change. Their visual assessment was compared with manual ROI-based measurements of each Couinaud segment and whole liver PDFF using intraclass correlation (ICC) and Bland-Altman analysis. Inter-reader agreement for visual assessment was calculated (ICC).

The purpose of this study is to explore the predictors of moderate to severe ischemic mitral regurgitation (IMR) after myocardial infarction with cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR).
From January 2016 to September 2018, 109 patients (mean age 60 ± 8years) with IMR were studied retrospectively. All patients underwent CMR-cine with True-FISP sequence and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) with a phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequence. The presence of papillary muscle infarction (PMI), global left ventricular (LV) infarcted extent, LV functional parameters, and LV myocardial strain were assessed. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to identify factors in the development of moderate to severe IMR.
Mild IMR was present in 61 patients (56%), and moderate to severe IMR was present in 48 patients (44%). PMI was identified in 22 patients (20.1%); 14 of them (63.63%) showed a moderate or severe IMR. Global LV infarcted extent was increased in patients with moderate to severe IMR (p< 0.001).
