Genovese basil leaves are used to prepare "pesto", a condiment that has always caught the interest of consumers and producers. Usually, basil for industrial processing is harvested more than once to extract a higher yield. However, successive cuts can affect quality traits that play a crucial role in defining the product's final sensory profile. This research was aimed to evaluate the impact of cut on the quantitative and qualitative properties of three Genovese basil cultivars (Aroma 2, Eleonora and Italiano Classico) grown in an open field. Nitrate content, phenolic acids and aromatic profile were determined by ion chromatography (IC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), and gas chromatography coupled to a mass spectrometer (GC/MS) analysis, respectively. The second harvest increased fresh biomass and total phenolic acids content by 172% and 413%, respectively, with Italiano Classico recording the highest values. The combination of second-cut Aroma 2 yielded the lowest nitrate (473.8 mg kg-1 of fresh weight) and Eugenol (2.4%) levels. In the second harvest, Eleonora showed an increase in eugenol and trans-α-bergamotene of 75.3% and 48.2%, respectively; whereas, eucalyptol and β-cis-ocimene decreased by 34.4% and 51.6%, respectively. Although successive harvests may increase basil yield and quality overall, the cultivar-dependent response to successive cuts needs to be accounted for in order to accomplish standardization of industrial "pesto" sauce.Tight ultrafiltration (TUF) membranes with high performance have attracted more and more attention in the separation of organic molecules. To improve membrane performance, some methods such as interface polymerization have been applied. However, these approaches have complex operation procedures. In this study, a polydopamine (PDA) modified MoS2 (MoS2@PDA) blending polyethersulfone (PES) membrane with smaller pore size and excellent selectivity was fabricated by a simple phase inversion method. The molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) of as-prepared MoS2@PDA mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) changes, and the effective separation of dye molecules in MoS2@PDA MMMs with different concentrations were obtained. The addition amount of MoS2@PDA increased from 0 to 4.5 wt %, resulting in a series of membranes with the MWCO values of 7402.29, 7007.89, 5803.58, 5589.50, 6632.77, and 6664.55 Da. The MWCO of the membrane M3 (3.0 wt %) was the lowest, the pore size was defined as 2.62 nm, and the pure water flux was 42.0 L m-2 h-1 bar-1. The rejection of Chromotrope 2B (C2B), Reactive Blue 4 (RB4), and Janus Green B (JGB) in aqueous solution with different concentrations of dyes was better than that of unmodified membrane. The separation effect of M3 and M0 on JGB at different pH values was also investigated. The rejection rate of M3 to JGB was higher than M0 at different pH ranges from 3 to 11. The rejection of M3 was 98.17-99.88%. When pH was 11, the rejection of membranes decreased with the extension of separation time. Specifically, at 180 min, the rejection of M0 and M3 dropped to 77.59% and 88.61%, respectively. In addition, the membrane had a very low retention of salt ions, Nacl 1.58%, Na2SO4 10.52%, MgSO4 4.64%, and MgCl2 1.55%, reflecting the potential for separating salts and dyes of MoS2@PDA/PES MMMs.The present study examines the association between the success at junior and senior level for British swimmers in World Championships (WCs). It also explores the relationships between swimming performance and the swimmers' gender, swim stroke, distance, status (finalist, semifinalist and heats) and swimming category. Data were collected for swimmers participating in junior and/or senior World Championships (29,000 entries 5585 swimmers) from 2006-2017. The final filtered database included only swimmers from the United Kingdom (836 entries 141 swimmers). A descriptive analysis was made to characterize the swimmers who reached elite status in the senior category. A lineal regression model was run by gender to predict the influence of category, swim stroke, and distance in the results reached in the senior category. The results showed that the ratio of conversion from junior to senior was quite low. Females who participated in both junior and senior WCs were likely to reach top positions in the senior category. Overall, few British swimmers participated in a junior category before the senior level, but female swimmers participating in both junior and senior WCs were likely to reach top positions in the senior category.
