Hypertensive patients with increased serum uric acid (SUA) are at increased cardiovascular (CV) risks. Both the European and American hypertension guidelines endorse the utilization of 24h-ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (24h-ABPM) for hypertensive patients with increased CV risk. While there is difference in identifying UA as a CV risk factor between the European and American guidelines. Therefore, it is unknown whether 24h-ABPM should be used routinely in hypertensive patients with increased SUA.

To address this knowledge gap, we investigated 1) the correlation between SUA and 24h-ABP; 2) the association between SUA and BP phenotypes (controlled hypertension, white-coat uncontrolled hypertension [WCUH], masked uncontrolled hypertension [MUCH] and sustained uncontrolled hypertension [SUCH]); 3) the association between SUA and target organ damage (TOD microalbuminuria, left ventricular hypertrophy [LVH] and arterial stiffness) according to BP phenotypes.

In 1336 treated hypertensive patients (mean age 61.2 and female 55.4%), we found 1) there was no correlation between SUA and 24h, daytime, and nighttime SBP/DBP, respectively; 2) In reference to controlled hypertension, SUA increase was not associated WCUH (odds ratio [OR] 0.968, p=0.609), MUCH (OR 1.026, p=0.545) and SUCH (OR 1.003, p=0.943); 3) the overall prevalence of microalbuminuria, LVH and arterial stiffness was 2.3%, 16.7% and 23.2% respectively. After adjustment for covariates, including age, sex, smoking, body mass index, diabetes mellitus and estimated glomerular filtration rate, there was no association between SUA and TOD in all BP phenotypes.

In this study, we developed such a bioresponsive theranostic nanoparticle for synergistic photoimmunotherapy. In particular, these nanoparticles were constructed by embedding indocyanine green (ICG) into Mn2+-doped amorphous calcium carbonate (ACC(Mn)) nanoparticles, followed by loading of the Toll-like-receptor-7 agonist imiquimod (IMQ). The IMQ@ACC(Mn)-ICG/PEG nanoparticles respond to the acidic pH of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and co-deliver ICG and IMQ into the tumor. Selective phototherapy was achieved upon activation using a near-infrared laser. In the presence of IMQ and arising from phototherapeutically treated tumor cells, tumor-associated antigens give rise to a strong antitumor immune response. Reversal of the immunosuppressive TME via H+ scavenging of the tumor through ACC nanoparticles effectively inhibits tumor metastases. Moreover, the combination of ICG and Mn2+ also serves as an advanced contrast agent for cancer multimode imaging. Overall, these bioresponsive nanoparticles provide a promising approach for cancer theranostics with promising potential for future clinical translation.A facile, green synthesis of selenium doped zinc oxide nano-antibiotic (Se-ZnO-NAB) using the Curcuma longa extract is reported to combat the increased emergence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The developed Se-ZnO-NAB were characterized for their physicochemical parameters and extensively evaluated for their toxicological potential in an animal model. The prepared Se-ZnO-NABs were characterized via Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy to get functional insight into their surface chemistry, scanning electron microscopy revealing the polyhedral morphology with a size range of 36 ± 16 nm, having -28.9 ± 6.42 mV zeta potential, and inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry confirming the amount of Se and Zn to be 14.43 and 71.70 mg L-1 respectively. Moreover, the antibacterial activity against MRSA showed significantly low minimum inhibitory concentration at 6.2 μg mL-1 when compared against antibiotics. Also, total protein content and reactive oxygen species production in MRSA, under the stressed environment of Se-ZnO-NAB, significantly (p less then 0.05) decreased compared to the negative control. Moreover, the results of acute oral toxicity in rats showed moderate variations in blood biochemistry and histopathology of vital organs. The teratogenicity and fetal evaluations also revealed some signs of toxicity along with changes in biochemical parameters. The overall outcomes suggest that Se-ZnO-NAB can be of significant importance for combating multi-drug resistance but must be used with extreme caution, particularly in pregnancy, as moderate toxicity was observed at a toxic dose of 2000 mg kg-1.Various organelles (e.g., mitochondria and chloroplasts) have a multicompartment structure, providing superior function of material transformation, selective segregation and energy conversion. In this study, we develop a "soft separation" way to establish a delicate multicompartment multienzyme system (MMS) with polyphenol-encapsulated enzyme-DNA conjugates, which are anchored on magnetic Janus particles, providing a biomimetic catalysis network with the model cascade reactions in confinement.
