There was significant reduction in the response costs (p = 0.05) and perceived rewards (p = 0.01) scores in the intervention group compared with the control group after the intervention. However, there were no significant differences in the perceived vulnerability (p = 0.14), perceived severity (p = 0.09), and response efficacy (p = 0.64) between the two groups after the intervention.

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common microvascular complication of diabetes and it is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness among patients with diabetes. This study aimed to investigate the effect of educational program based on Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on promoting retinopathy preventive behaviors in patients with type 2 diabetes.

The present study is an educational randomized controlled trial research that was conducted on 94 patients with type 2 diabetes who had gone to diabetes clinic. The samples were randomly assigned to the intervention (N = 47) and control groups (N = 47). Data collection instrument was a researcher-made questionnaire based on TPB and FBS and HbA1C tests. Then, educational program was performed for the intervention group through four educational sessions. After 3 months, data collection was repeated for the two groups and FBS, HbA1C testes were done again and data were analyzed.

The performance of the intervention group on preventive behaviors of retinopathy increased from 2.48 ± 1.42 to 4.48 45 1.45 after the education (p < 0.001). The mean of FBS and HbA1c in the intervention group also decreased after the intervention (P < 0.05).

Applying the TPB model proved is very effective in developing an educational program for patients with diabetes, to control their blood sugar and enhance preventive behaviors of retinopathy. Besides such programs, follow-up education for controlling and monitoring are highly recommended. This theory serves as a helpful theoretical framework for health-related behaviors and can be an appropriate pattern to plan for educational interventions.

Chemotherapy can cause thymic atrophy and reduce T-cell output in cancer patients. However, the thymus in young adult patients has regenerative potential after chemotherapy, manifesting as thymic hyperplasia which can be easily mistaken as residual disease or recurrence in patients suffering lymphoma.

This study reports a case of lymphoma in a young female adult who was initially diagnosed with an anterior mediastinal mass, and was found to have soft tissue occupying the anterior mediastinum repeatedly after chemotherapy, suggesting a lymphoma residue or disease progression. From discussions by a multi-disciplinary team (MDT), the anterior mediastinal mass of the patient was considered unknown and might be thymus tissue or tumor tissue, and it was eventually identified as thymus tissue via histopathology.

Water-soluble, but not lipid-soluble, extract of Dicranopteris linearis leaves has been proven to possess hepatoprotective activity. The present study aimed to validate the hepatoprotective and antioxidant activities, and phytoconstituents of lipid-soluble (chloroform) extract of D. linearis leaves.

The extract of D. linearis leaves (CEDL; 50, 250 and 500 mg/kg) was orally administered to rats for 7 consecutive days followed by the oral administration of 3 g/kg PCM to induce liver injury. Blood was collected for liver function analysis while the liver was obtained for histopathological examination and endogenous antioxidant activity determination. The extract was also subjected to antioxidant evaluation and phytochemicals determination via phytochemical screening, HPLC and UPLC-HRMS analyses.

CEDL exerted significant (p < 0.05) hepatoprotective activity at 250 and 500 mg/kg and significantly (p < 0.05) reversed the PCM-induced decrease in rat's liver endogenous antioxidant (catalase and superoxidetem, and exerted high antioxidant capacity. Further investigation is warranted to identify the potential hepatoprotective leads from CEDL for future drug development.
Endocrine complications such as impaired growth, delayed puberty, and low bone mineral density (BMD) can be associated with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children and adolescents. This study was performed to investigate the frequency, characteristics, and outcomes of endocrine complications of IBD in children and adolescents.

This study included 127 patients with IBD diagnosed before 18years of age [117 with Crohn disease (CD) and 10 with ulcerative colitis (UC)]. Growth profiles, pubertal status, 25-hydroxyvitamin D
[25(OH)D
] levels, and BMD were reviewed retrospectively.

Short stature was observed in 14 of 127 (11.0 %) with a mean height-SDS of -2.31 ± 0.72. During a 2-year follow-up period, height-SDS did not significantly improve, while weight-SDS significantly improved. Among 109 patients who were older than 13 (girls) or 14 (boys) years of age during the study period, 11 patients (10.1 %) showed delayed puberty, which was associated with low weight-SDS.
