This review reports a brief framework of recent developments of in silico approaches that provide predictive structural information of ssDNA aptamer.Carbon capturing technologies are recognized as a cornerstone solution in reducing greenhouse gas emissions to meet the 2050 emissions targets set during the past Paris agreement. Recently, ammonia has become a major carbon-free chemical to absorb CO2 emissions from flue gases. In this regard, this paper concerns the recently developed novel ammonia-based carbon capturing systems in the open literature and comparatively evaluates them from various perspectives in addition to discussing their advantages and disadvantages. The systems considered are basically classified into three categories, namely renewable energy-based systems, energy savings-focused systems, and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC)-based systems. Then, comparative assessments of the novel systems are conducted to see their advantages and weaknesses as compared to the typical chilled ammonia process. Generally, the novel systems have significantly lower energy requirements. The highest reduction is 37.3%. Another result of the comparative study is that renewable energy-based systems of carbon capturing have higher operational costs that can reach up to C$136 ton-1 of CO2 captured. Future efforts are expected to focus on reducing these costs since renewable energy-based systems are also used to co-produce chemical commodities, such as urea and ammonium bicarbonate. These high-value commodities have the potential to generate enough economic value to compensate for the operational costs of carbon capturing using ammonia as a chemical solvent.Acute large volume spills from storage tanks of petroleum hydrocarbons as light non aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs) can contaminate soil and groundwater and may have the potential to pose explosive and other risks. see more In consideration of an acute LNAPL release scenario, we explore the value of a rapid remediation response, and the value of installing remediation infrastructure in close proximity to the spill location, in effecting greater recovery of LNAPL mass from the subsurface. For the first time, a verified three-dimensional multi-phase numerical framework and supercomputing resources was applied to explore the significance of in-time and in-place remediation actions. A sand aquifer, two release volumes and a low viscosity LNAPL were considered in key scenarios. The time of commencement of LNAPL remediation activities and the location of recovery wells were assessed requiring asymmetric computational considerations. The volume of LNAPL released considerably affected the depth of LNAPL penetration below the groundwater table, the radius of the plume over time and the recoverable LNAPL mass. The remediation efficiency was almost linearly correlated with the commencement time, but was a non-linear function of the distance of an extraction well from the spill release point. The ratio of the recovered LNAPL in a well located at the centre of the spill/release compared to a well located 5 m away was more than 3.5, for recovery starting only 7 days after the release. Early commencement of remediation with a recovery well located at the centre of the plume was estimated to recover 190 times more LNAPL mass than a one-month delayed commencement through a well 15 m away from the centre of the LNAPL plume. Optimally, nearly 40% of the initially released LNAPL could be recovered within two months of commencing LNAPL recovery actions.Municipal sludge is a solid waste material, and resource utilization is the optimal way to dispose of this material. The amount of municipal sludge produced in China is large, and it can be used in the preparation of ceramsite. The content of Al2O3 in drinking water treatment sludge is significantly higher than that in wastewater treatment sludge, while the content of K2O, Na2O and MgO in the two kinds of sludge is similar. When sludge is used to prepare ceramsite, the amount of sludge in most raw materials for ceramsite is less than 50%. The bulk density of the prepared sludge ceramsite is less than 1000 kg m-3, and the highest water absorption rate is close to 40%. The leaching content of heavy metals in municipal sludge-based ceramsite is within the standard health safety limit, and heavy metals are better stabilized. The fitting effect of the pseudo-second-order kinetic equation of the dynamic adsorption of sludge ceramsite is obviously better than that of the pseudo-first-order kinetic equation. Sludge ceramsite used in bio-filter media and constructed wetland (CW) substrates is good able to purify wastewater. In the future, the preparation method of municipal sludge ceramsite and purification research of CW substrates based on sludge ceramsite need to be further improved.Despite the essential role of statistical learning in shaping human behavior, there are still controversies concerning its measurement. In this paper, we present a novel online target-detection task in an acoustic word segmentation paradigm, which is able to track the process of learning and does not build on deliberation and decision making. Beside testing the novel online task, we also examined its relationship with two offline measures the traditional two-alternative forced choice (2AFC) task, and the statistically-induced chunking recall (SICR) task (Isbilen et al., 2017). Participants showed a significant learning effect on the online task, reflected in the decrease of reaction times during training and in the differences between reaction times to predictable versus unpredictable targets. Online learning scores correlated with the 2AFC scores, but this association was only present when participants did not have explicit knowledge about stimuli. SICR scores were not associated with any of the other measures. The internal consistency was higher for online learning measures than for the other two tasks. These findings show that the online target detection task is a good tool for assessing statistical learning, and invite further research on its psychometric properties. The representation of space, time and number is believed to rely on a common encoding system developed to support action guidance. While the ecological advantage of such a shared system is evident when objects are located within the region of space we can act on (known as peri-personal space), it is less obvious in the case of objects located beyond our arms' reach. In the current study we investigated whether and to what extent the distance of the stimuli from the observer affects the perception of duration and numerosity. We first replicated Anelli et al.'s (2015) experiment by asking adult participants to perform a duration reproduction task with stimuli of different sizes displayed in the peri- or extra-personal space, and then applied the same paradigm to a non-symbolic numerosity estimation task. Results show that, independently of size, duration estimates were overestimated when visual stimuli were presented in the extra-personal space, replicating previous findings. A similar effect was also found for numerosity perception, however overestimation for far stimuli was much smaller in magnitude and was accounted by the difference in perceived size between stimuli presented in peripersonal or extrapersonal space.
