The aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the gustatory function between patients with chronic mucosal and squamous diseases before and after the surgery.

A total of 33 patients with mucosal diseases and 34 patients with squamous diseases were evaluated for gustatory function both in the pre-operative and post-operative periods. The taste scores were compared between the two groups.

The gustatory scores in the mucosal disease group were significantly better than the scores in the squamous disease group (p < 0.05). There was no significant correlation detected between the age of the patients or duration of the disease with the taste scores in any of the study groups.

Importantly, several epidemiological studies have revealed significant associations between BMI and organic food consumption. However, although these studies have suggested that this factor holds promise to prevent obesity, they all suffer from methodological limitations, including self-reporting methods to assess BMI, not controlling for potential confounding factors or using a non-representative sample. Moreover, all were restricted to an adult sample. We present the results of a cross-sectional epidemiological study assessing the association of organic food consumption with BMI and obesity in a representative lifespan French sample (INCA3 study). Objective methods were used to measure BMI, and several potentially confounding variables were controlled for. In total, 1775 children and adolescents and 2121 adults underwent anthropometric measurements and completed questionnaires concerning their dietary habits and lifestyle. Unadjusted models systematically revealed negative associations between organic food consumption and both BMI and obesity across all age groups. These associations tended to remain statistically significant even after controlling for several confounding variables concerning socio-economic status, quality of the diet and physical activity. The effect sizes were, however, small. These data confirm the association between organic food consumption and obesity during both childhood and adulthood. Evidence from randomised controlled trials is required to investigate causality between organic food consumption and lower BMI or obesity rate.The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental health and well-being were assessed in a convenience sample of 600 UK adults, using a cross-sectional design. This study aimed at the identification of the genotype/species belonging to Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato (s.l.) specimens in retrieved percutaneously from the human host and to investigate their relationship with cyst characteristics. The genetic identification of cyst material was performed by mt-CO1 gene polymerase chain reaction, and confirmed via sequencing. A total of 110 CE cysts were identified as E. granulosus s.l. In detail, 104 belonged to E. granulosus sensu stricto (G1 and G3) and six isolates were in the E. canadensis cluster (G6/7). All clusters were tested for the relationship between demographics, cyst features and genetic diversity. The relationship between genetic variation and certain clinical characteristics such as cyst volume and location were statistically significant for G6/7 cluster. However, little is known about the association between myopia and puberty. AdipoRon We aim to evaluate the association between myopia and menarche, the most important puberty indicator for girls, and to test whether menarche could modify the effects of myopia-related behaviors. The participants came from two consecutive national surveys conducted in 30 provinces in mainland China in 2010 and 2014. We included 102,883 girls (61% had experienced menarche) aged 10-15 years. Risk behaviors for myopia which included sleep duration, homework time, and outdoor activity were measured by self-administrated questionnaire. Myopia was defined according to a validated method, and its relationships with menarche status and behaviors were evaluated by robust Poisson regression models based on generalized estimated equation adjusting for cluster effect of school. We found that postmenarche girls were at 13% (95% confidence interval 11%-16%) higher risk of myopia than premenarche girls, after adjusting for exact age, urban-rural location, survey year, and four behavioral covariates.
