Routine maternal immunisation against influenza and pertussis are recommended by the WHO to protect mother and child, and new vaccines are under development. Introducing maternal vaccines into national programmes requires an understanding of vaccine delivery costs - particularly in low resource settings.
We searched Medline, Embase, Econlit, and Global Health for studies reporting costs of delivering vaccination during pregnancy but excluded studies that did not separate the vaccine purchase price. Extracted costs were inflated and converted to 2018 US dollars.
Sixteen studies were included, of which two used primary data to estimate vaccine delivery costs. Costs per dose ranged from $0.55 to $0.64 in low-income countries, from $1.25 to $6.55 for middle-income countries, and from $5.76 to $39.87 in high-income countries.
More research is needed on the costs of delivering maternal immunisation during pregnancy, and of integrating vaccine delivery into existing programmes of antenatal care especially in low and middle-income countries.

In 2016, the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MoHS) piloted VaxTrac, an electronic immunization registry (EIR), in an urban district to improve management of vaccination records and tracking of children who missed scheduled doses. We aimed to document lessons learned to inform decision-making on VaxTrac and similar EIRs' future use.
Ten out of 50 urban health facilities that implemented VaxTrac were purposively selected for inclusion in a rapid mixed-method assessment from November to December 2017. For a one-month period, records of six scheduled vaccine doses among children<2years old in VaxTrac were abstracted and compared to three paper-based records (register of under-two children, daily tally sheet, and monthly summary form). We used the under-two register as the reference gold standard for comparison purposes. We interviewed and observed 10 heath workers, one from each selected facility, who were using VaxTrac.
Overall, VaxTrac captured<65% of the vaccine doses reported in th an EIR.
Although VaxTrac helped to shorten the time to manage, summarize, and report vaccination records, data sharing restrictions coupled with inconsistent and inefficient workflows were major implementation challenges. Readiness-to-introduce and sustainability should be carefully considered before implementing an EIR.
Household-based caregivers serve an important role in protecting the health of cancer patients, who may be vulnerable to infectious diseases due to their cancer treatments. Caregiver preventive care should be prioritized to maintain continuity of care and to reduce potential for transmission of infectious diseases to cancer patients. Uptake of vaccines, such as influenza vaccine, is suboptimal in the United States in general, as well as among caregivers for cancer patients. Little is known about the types of information about vaccination and prevention of infectious diseases (e.g. influenza) presented to caregivers of cancer patients.
A qualitative content review of NCI cancer center websites (N=70), searching for vaccine-related information and the need for and availability of vaccines for caregivers, and comparison of the availability of this information to that for caregiver support groups and general preventative health information (e.g. diet, exercise) for caregivers or patients was conducted.

However, the effect of wall shear stress (WSS) has not been considered to date. This study aimed to visualize the blood flow of carotid arteries and measured WSS using vector flow mapping (VFM) developed specifically for vascular use. Patients with cerebrovascular diseases were prospectively enrolled and examined with carotid ultrasound using VFM Vascular. WSS was calculated in the common carotid artery and internal carotid artery. Blood flow in 82 common carotid arteries was visualized with VFM Vascular. The maximum and mean WSSs were negatively correlated with age and intima-media thickness. The WSS in 16 internal carotid artery plaques was significantly higher upstream of the plaque than downstream. Therefore, VFM Vascular is a promising method that provides a novel indicator of atherosclerosis.This review discusses magnetomotive ultrasound, which is an emerging technique that uses superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles as a contrast agent. The key advantage of using nanoparticle-based contrast agents is their ability to reach extravascular targets, whereas commercial contrast agents for ultrasound comprise microbubbles confined to the blood stream. This also extends possibilities for molecular imaging, where the contrast agent is labeled with specific targeting molecules (e.g., antibodies) so that pathologic tissue may be visualized directly. The principle of action is that an external time-varying magnetic field acts to displace the nanoparticles lodged in tissue and thereby their immediate surrounding. This movement is then detected with ultrasound using frequency- or time-domain analysis of echo data. As a contrast agent already approved for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) by the US Food and Drug Administration, there is a shorter path to clinical translation, although safety studies of magnetomotion are necessary, especially if particle design is altered to affect biodistribution or signal strength.
