But the controlling physical processes remain uncertain in current climate models. We present a lidar-based technique as a unique remote-sensing tool without thermodynamic assumptions for simultaneously profiling diurnal aerosol and water cloud properties with high resolution. Direct lateral observations of cloud properties show that the vertical structure of low-level water clouds can be far from being perfectly adiabatic. Furthermore, our analysis reveals that, instead of an increase of liquid water path (LWP) as proposed by most general circulation models, elevated aerosol loading can cause a net decrease in LWP.SignificanceCreating structures to realize function-oriented mechanical responses is desired for many applications. Many AYA use online platforms to share their treatment experiences. The purpose of this analysis was to explore how AYA discuss clinical trials and their access to novel therapeutics through their blogs. Methods We studied illness blogs from 22 AYA (ages 16-38 years old) with advanced cancer who specifically discussed experiences enrolling in a clinical trial. Nearly 500 excerpts were abstracted from their blogs, and we used qualitative descriptive methodology and thematic analysis to explore their longitudinal perspectives. Results We describe three themes (1) "Blinded", which represents the uncertainty in treatment pathway and underrepresentation of AYA in clinical trials, (2) "Totally healthy except for the damn cancer", which represents the numerous challenges associated with meeting eligibility criteria and lack of available clinical trials, and (3) "Go ahead and send me the bill!", which represents the precarious financial challenges associated with participating with clinical trials (both direct costs and indirect costs associated with travel, time away from work) as well as the costs of novel therapeutics. Conclusions By studying AYA online narratives, we can outline several gaps in accessing clinical trials and generate future research priorities. AYA with advanced cancer are known to have aggressive trajectories, and there are opportunities to integrate patient-reported outcomes and supportive care frameworks embedded within clinical trial study design.Control of limb movements may be impaired after stroke due to the loss of connectivity between the cerebral cortex and spinal cord. A notion to improve motor function in stroke survivors is to use alternate motor fibers, such as the reticulospinal tract (RST), which originate from the brainstem and terminate at different levels of spinal cord. One way of targeting the RST is to use a "StartReact" protocol to foster premature release of a preplanned movement in response to a startling stimulus. Our aim was to find support for the preservation of such StartReact effect in stroke survivors. We conducted a systematic review with meta-analysis of literature published in English up to September 2020, to explore differences in motor responses to startling stimuli in StartReact effects. Protocol of the study was registered (PROSPERO Registration No. CRD42020191581). PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, PsycINFO, and Science Direct were searched for relevant literature. The meta-analysis contained six studies involving a total of 151 stroke and healthy participants. Muscle onset latency data were extracted from the qualifying studies and compared using RevMan. StartReact effect was present in both stroke and healthy groups, represented by shortened muscle onset latency when startling stimulus was present. There was considerable heterogeneity of the outcome measures, which was attributed to the range of motor impairments among stroke survivors and methodologies used. Our findings support the notion of preservation of preprogramming ability and suitability of RST and StartReact effect for motor rehabilitation following stroke.Bullying is a type of youth violence and an adverse childhood experience that can result in trauma and have immediate and long-term consequences for all involved. It can happen at school or elsewhere - including online entertainment and social and learning environments. Some children are at increased risk for bullying victimization, such as those targeted because of their racial/ethnic background or cultural identity. This study assessed U.S. parents and caregivers' self-reported changes in concern about their children's involvement in bullying during Fall 2020 compared to the prior year, which was marked by extraordinary historical circumstances (e.g., COVID-19 pandemic, heightened awareness of racial inequities, schools transitioning to virtual learning). Secondary analyses of data from the 2020 Fall ConsumerStyles and Estilos online panel surveys - designed to be representative of U.S. adults overall and U.S. Hispanic adults, respectively - were conducted. Differences by children's type of school attendance (i.e., physically at school or not) and parents' sociodemographic characteristics were explored. While findings suggest that U.S. parents' concern for their children being bullied during Fall 2020 compared to the prior year did not change, significant differences were found by the children's type of school attendance and the parents' race/ethnicity - with increased concern among parents of children who physically attended school, non-Hispanic Black parents and Hispanic parents. Among parents who reported being less concerned during Fall 2020 about their children being bullied compared to the prior year, not being physically at school is noted as the main reason why. Parents who reported being more concerned frequently noted racism as the reason why. It is imperative to understand what parents think about bullying, to best inform efforts to support their key role in bullying prevention.
Histological evaluation of lymph node is crucial for the definitive diagnosis of Kikuchi-Fujimoto disease (KFD). However, lymph node biopsy under local anesthesia is often difficult in pediatric patients.

We evaluated cytological findings for pediatric patients with prolonged cervical lymphadenitis clinically suggestive of KFD and investigated the clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with KFD by fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC).

This retrospective clinical study included 58 Japanese pediatric patients with cervical lymphadenitis who underwent FNAC.

Cytological diagnosis was KFD for 22 and suspicion of KFD for 11 patients. The remaining 25 patients were diagnosed with non-specific lymphadenitis (NSL). Tenderness was independently associated with a higher frequency of both KFD in narrow and broad senses, compared with NSL (
 = .009;
 = .038). The percentage of patients who underwent FNAC within 28 days from symptom onset tended to be higher among patients with KFD in a narrow sense than those with NSL (
 = .052).

Although the integration of feedback during the execution of individual movements is well understood, less is known about the use of sensory feedback in the control of skilled movement sequences. To address this gap, we trained participants to produce sequences of finger movements on a keyboard-like device over a 4-day training period. Participants received haptic, visual, and auditory feedback indicating the occurrence of each finger press. We then either transiently delayed or advanced the feedback for a single press by a small amount of time (30 or 60 ms). We observed that participants rapidly adjusted their ongoing finger press by either accelerating or prolonging the ongoing press, in accordance with the direction of the perturbation. Furthermore, we could show that this rapid behavioral modulation was driven by haptic feedback. Although these feedback-driven adjustments reduced in size with practice, they were still clearly present at the end of training. In contrast to the directionally specific effect we observed on the perturbed press, a feedback perturbation resulted in a delayed onset of the subsequent presses irrespective of perturbation direction or feedback modality. This observation is consistent with a hierarchical organization of even very skilled and fast movement sequences, with different levels reacting distinctly to sensory perturbations.NEW & NOTEWORTHY Sensory feedback is important during the execution of a movement. However, little is known about how sensory feedback is used during the production of movement sequences. BV-6 Here, we show two distinct feedback processes in the execution of fast finger movement sequences. By transiently delaying or advancing the feedback of a single press within a sequence, we observed a directionally specific effect on the perturbed press and a directionally non-specific effect on the subsequent presses.
