This study reported the infection rate, risk factors, biochemical analysis, and molecular characterization of Cysticercus tenuicollis in sheep from Minoufiya, Egypt. This paper reports a case of furuncular myiasis caused by Dermatobia hominis in a domestic dog from Colombia. Puromycin aminonucleoside DPP inhibitor A male domestic dog, German shepherd breed, of approximately 2 years old was brought for medical consultation. The reason was the presence of one furuncular lesion and discomfort in the patient. Clinical examination revealed a wound over the sacral area similar to an inflammatory papule, with a central punctum exuding a serosanguinous discharge. In the medical examination was applied pressure around the wound, that allowed evidencing a larva inside the tissue. The applied treatment was surgical removal of the larva in the dog. Treatment was complemented with Cephalexin (20 mg / kg, twice a day orally for 7 days), Meloxicam (0.2 mg / kg, once a day orally for 3 days) and cleaning with chlorhexidine, three times a day until removal of points 7 days later. The larva was sent to Parasitology laboratory of the UDES for morphology identification. The larva was identified as Dermatobia hominis. The objectives of the present study were to evaluate the efficacy of three anthelmintic drugs, i.e. fenbendazole, ivermectin and moxidectin; to determine the genera and species of the most abundant strongyles; and to investigate parasite control measures used in herds of horses in the western region of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. This study was onducted between February and December 2013 on 10 farms in this region. Coprological evaluations were conducted for counting the numbers of eggs per gram of feces (EPG) and coprocultures were made in order to identify third-stage larvae (L3) of strongyles. Parasite control measures were investigated by surveying each farm's management and characteristics. A fecal egg count reduction test (FECRT) was used to determine the anthelmintic efficacy based on EPG count results before and after treatment. The FECRT showed that anthelmintic resistance to fenbendazole was present and that ivermectin and moxidectin had high effectiveness in the western region of the state of São Paulo. Identification of L3 revealed that there was high prevalence of cyathostomins among strongyle larvae. The highest prevalence of Strongylus vulgaris occurred on farms where the intervals between deworming were long. The questionnaire applied showed that ivermectin was the drug most used among these farmers.Grouper is an important food fish due to its commercial value. A major production constraint in culturing grouper is that the fish can be fatally affected by leeches and diseases. Leeches are an ectoparasite of grouper, which can cause significant loss in fish number, and thus controlling their prevalence is indispensable as a tool of aquaculture management. In order to understand the prevalence and infestation intensity of a piscicolid leech Zeylanicobdella arugamensis, field observation of hybrid grouper was conducted in two aquaculture farms in Brunei Darussalam. The prevalence rates were 100% for the two farms throughout the study period, while the infestation intensity levels were significantly different between the two farms. The farm with the higher salinity ranging from 26 to 28 psu was found to have a significantly higher number of leeches (505 ± 271 leeches fish-1; mean ± SD) than the other farm with the lower salinity ranging from 17 to 23 psu that had 27 ± 23 leeches fish-1, although the ranges of recorded water temperatures overlapped between the two farms. This study suggests salinity might be an important factor in the propagation of Z. arugamensis. Furthermore, the prevalence and intensity of the leech in Brunei Darussalam were higher than those reported in other Southeast Asian countries. These results indicate that the hybrid grouper culture in Brunei Darussalam might have a higher risk in disease than those countries.Rumen fluke infections have been known to cause paramphistomiasis in both wild and domestic animals worldwide. Occasionally, coinfections of rumen flukes (Carmyerius, Fischoederius, and Paramphistomum) with liver flukes (Fasciola) have been observed due to the similar life cycles that these two species share. This study involved an alternative approach that was developed to classify and distinguish rumen fluke eggs from other genera by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI). Thirty-eight fecal specimens of Bos taurus from Suphanburi Province, Central Thailand were examined using the formalin-ether sedimentation technique. PCR detection was then performed using COI-specific primers that were developed in this study. The results showed that this primer set can classify and distinguish the egg specimens into a separate clade of the genera comprising Gastrothylax, Carmyerius, Fischoederius, Paramphistomum, Explanatum, and Fasciola. Moreover, epidemiological mapping revealed coinfections of three genera of rumen flukes at some collection sites, leading to the need to further investigate Paramphistomoidea infection along with Fasciolidae infection within the endemic area. This data is important for monitoring the outbreak of these parasites in Suphanburi Province, Thailand. It can be applied for initiating surveillance programs of paramphistomiasis and fascioliasis in veterinary studies.Siphonaptera are hematophage parasite vectors of both human and animal diseases. We aimed to identify ectoparasites parasitizing a coyote population (Canis latrans) in the northwest region of the Flora and Fauna Protection Area Médanos de Samalayuca, Chihuahua, Mexico. We captured 21 coyotes (15 males and 6 females) during the summer and winter of 2018. The individuals were anesthetized and thoroughly examined for ectoparasites. We found that 43% of the coyotes were infested. Based on characteristics such as the absence of pronotal and genal combs in the head, we identified 15 specimens as Pulex irritans. This is the first report of P. irritans in coyotes in Médanos de Samalayuca Chihuahua, Mexico.
