We tested two competing models linking daily stress, mindfulness, and psychological distress in adolescence 1) whether daily mindfulness moderates the impact of daily stressors on psychological distress or 2) whether mindfulness mediates the relationship between greater daily stressors and psychological distress.
Every evening for a week, 138 adolescents completed ecological momentary assessments (EMAs). Daily diaries assessed negative events, work-school conflict, mindfulness, and perceived stress. Multilevel mediation and moderation were tested.
Results indicated that there were meaningful variations in adolescent mindfulness from day-to-day, and supported mediation rather than moderation; the within-person association between stressors and psychological distress was mediated by mindfulness at the daily level.
It may be too challenging for adolescents to remain in a mindful state during stress to effectively use mindfulness as a buffer. Instead, daily stressors may indirectly impact psychological distress through decreasing mindfulness.

Instead, daily stressors may indirectly impact psychological distress through decreasing mindfulness.Although knowledge of the link between intimate partner violence (IPV) and animal maltreatment has increased significantly in recent years, few studies have examined service providers' experiences with IPV and concurrent animal abuse, as well as animal safekeeping in situations of IPV. The present study documented human service and animal welfare service providers' experiences supporting victims/survivors of IPV, who owned pets and livestock, and included service providers in rural and northern communities in Saskatchewan. Online surveys were completed by 128 human service professionals (including domestic violence shelter workers, domestic violence counsellors, victim services workers, police, and legal professionals) and 43 animal welfare professionals (including workers from animal rescues, humane societies, Societies for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals [SPCAs], and veterinary clinics) (n = 171). Respondents shared information relating to their awareness of the link; their experiences responding in situations of IPV and concurrent animal abuse, including arranging animal safekeeping in situations of IPV; and successes and challenges related to effective service provision. Results include descriptions of intersecting risks to people and animals. Service providers shared ways that they have assisted victims/survivors who own animals, such as through animal safekeeping programs. Both human service and animal welfare professionals expressed the need for pet-friendly domestic violence shelters and pet-friendly long-term housing options. Service providers offered recommendations for improving education and training; improving provision of services of victims/survivors of IPV and their animals, including improving access to Emergency Intervention Orders and establishing funding for animal safekeeping in situations of IPV; and strengthening existing and building new partnerships.
Serious mental illnesses (SMIs), including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder (MDD), are often treated with antipsychotic medications. Unfortunately, medication non-adherence is widespread and is associated with serious adverse outcomes. However, little real-world data are available describing adherence, compliance, or other medication-taking-related discussions between providers and patients. This study described these communications in ambulatory care.
Commercially insured patients having acute (emergency or inpatient) behavioral health (BH) events were included by specific criteria age 18-65 years; diagnoses of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or MDD; continuous health insurance coverage 6 months before to 12 months after the first claim (index) date during 01/01/2014‒12/31/2015; and prescribed antipsychotic medication. Medical charts were abstracted for ambulatory visits with a BH diagnosis through 12 months after the acute event, describing any treatment compliance discuss.

However, there is no clinical evidence to support the modifications of biomaterials, such as antimicrobial agent-coated catheters, that are known to reduce the risk of bacterial colonization and resistance development. The present study developed and tested silicone segments coated with an antivirulence agent, eugenol. The parameters for sol-gel preparation and coating were tailored to achieve a prolonged release of eugenol (for >35 days) at predefined antivirulence doses from dip-coated thin films. The eugenol-coated segments could prevent biofilm formation by Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 as well as bacterial adhesion. Significant repression in the expression of virulence and biofilm-associated genes were recorded, confirming the antivirulence and biofilm inhibition properties of silicone segments coated with eugenol. The drug release profiles, efficacy analysis, neutrophil-response studies, and in vitro toxicity profiling further supported the contention that the activity of the eugenol-coated sections was effective and safe.Marine biogrowth infestation of a seawater intake system was investigated. A digital camera fixed onto a skid was used to record the biogrowth at intervals of 5 m up to a depth of 55 m. Divers inspected the intake shaft and collected the biogrowth samples for biomass estimation. A biomass density of 7.5 kg m-2 and 28.2 kg m-2 was recorded at 5 and 30 m depths respectively. Inspection by the divers revealed that hard-shelled organisms such as oysters and brown and green mussels were observed in plenty up to a thickness of 15 cm and bryozoans grew as epibionts.
