Education plays a vital role not only in the management of diabetes but also for the effective prevention of diabetes and its complications. Prediabetes awareness and knowledge is grossly inadequate in India and massive prediabetic screening and management programs are urgently needed. This study was an initiative to conduct education program among the prediabetic subjects after assessment of their knowledge attitude and practice using a newly developed and validated prediabetes questionnaire. A total of 308 prediabetic participants were recruited through prediabetes screening camps conducted in the selected districts of Kerala and Tamilnadu. A newly developed and validated KAP-PAQ Questionnaire was used to analyze the Knowledge Attitude and Practice among the prediabetic population. The impact of Prediabetes Education Program was assessed by administration of questionnaire before and after PEP with an interval period of 30 days. Baseline assessment of knowledge among prediabetics shown that 90% had poor knowledge but after PEP program 43% had average knowledge and 44% could score good knowledge. Baseline assessment of attitude exhibited 30% with negative attitude but after counseling 68% shown positive attitude. Regarding practice assessment 35% had very poor and 52% shown poor practice but after PEP 71% shown good practice and 15% shown very good practice. Baseline KAP survey shows the need for health literacy among the newly diagnosed prediabetics. Prediabetes education program could bring significant improvement in knowledge attitude and practice and KAP-PAQ was found to be an efficient tool to conduct survey among the newly diagnosed prediabetics of south India.Physical activity and social support are associated with better outcomes after surviving acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and greater walkability has been associated with activity and support. We used data from the SILVER-AMI study (November 2014-June 2017), a longitudinal cohort of community-living adults ≥ 75 years hospitalized for AMI to assess associations of neighborhood walkability with health outcomes, and to assess whether physical activity and social support mediate this relationship, if it exists. CC-486 We included data from 1345 participants who were not bedbound, were discharged home, and for whom we successfully linked walkability scores (from Walk Score®) for their home census block. Our primary outcome was hospital-free survival time (HFST) at six months after discharge; secondary outcomes included physical and mental health at six months, assessed using SF-12. Physical activity and social support were measured at baseline. Covariates included cognition, functioning, comorbidities, participation in rehabilitation or physical therapy, and demographics. We employed survival analysis to examine associations between walkability and HFST, before and after adjustment for covariates; we repeated analyses using linear regression with physical and mental health as outcomes. In adjusted models, walkability was not associated with physical health (ß = 0.010; 95% CI -0.027, 0.047), mental health (ß = -0.08; 95% CI -0.175, -0.013), or HFST (ß = 0.008; 95% CI -0.023, 0.009). Social support was associated with mental health in adjusted models. Neighborhood walkability was not predictive of outcomes among older adults with existing coronary disease, suggesting that among older adults, mobility limitations may supercede neighborhood walkability.We sought to describe how revenues from sugar-sweetened beverage (SSB) excise taxes in 7 U.S. cities are being allocated, who is benefiting from these investments, and whether allocations are consistent with the original intent of tax legislation. We collected information from public documents and key informants about allocations in the most recent fiscal year available (ranging from 2018 to 2021). Across the 7 U.S. cities with taxes, the average annual revenue from SSB taxes totaled $133.9 M. In the fiscal year studied, cities allocated a total of $133.2 M in SSB tax revenues. Human and community capital investments totaled $89.6 M (67% of all allocations) funding early childhood development, community infrastructure improvements, and youth and workforce development. Health-related investments totaled $36.9 M (28% of total allocations), funding access to healthy foods and beverages; support for physical activity opportunities; promotion of overall physical, mental or social health and wellbeing; health and nutrition education; chronic-disease prevention and management; and reducing SSB consumption. In the 3 cities that specified how tax revenues would be spent, allocations were consistent with promised uses of revenues. In addition, 85% of aggregated revenues ($112.9 M) were targeted to support work and programs in impacted communities (communities that experience health inequities, discrimination and exclusion). SSB tax revenues are supporting initiatives to improve community health, develop human and community capital, and advance equity. These investments may yield additional health benefits beyond those resulting from lower SSB consumption. Consistent tracking and public reporting on revenue allocations would increase transparency and accountability.Recombination leads to the generation of new viral progeny which remain undetected by routine testing procedures and may be a threat to the infected host. Here, we have characterised the complete genome sequences of two isolates of Apple stem pitting virus from apple cv. Red Chief (Palampur) and cv. Gold Spur (N) with distinct serological reactivities. The viral genomes consisted of 9267 nucleotides for isolate Palampur and 9254 nucleotides for isolate N, excluding the poly (A) tail and contained 5five open reading frames (ORFs). Isolate N shared 80.8% sequence identity with ASPV apple isolate GA2 from China, while isolate Palampur shared 81.4% sequence identity with ASPV apple isolate PB66 from the United Kingdom. The serological difference of isolates N and Palampur along with their low sequence identity indicated the existence of two distinct virus genotypes which was corroborated by evolutionary and genetic differentiation analyses. Recombination events were detected in the RdRp and CP sequences of Palampur isolate thereby suggesting the role of recombination in the evolution of distinct virus genotypes.
