During the study period 552 patients were admitted to our hospital and met the inclusion criteria. Global mortality in group1 was significantly higher than in group2 (13.8% vs 1.8%; p < 0.001). Patients with a sedentary lifestyle had increased COVID-19 mortality independently of other risk factors previously described (hazard ratio 5.91 (1.80-19.41); p = 0.003).

Involvement head and neck is uncommon, and there are only four cases reported in the oral cavity and oropharynx. Microscopically, it is characterized by a vascular proliferation permeated by spindle-to-ovoid cells resembling Kaposi sarcoma. Immunohistochemically, the tumor is positive for CD31, CD34 and negative for D2-40. Herein we present a rare case of intraoral Kaposiform hemangioendothelioma in a 10-year-old boy.The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed an interconnected and tightly coupled globalized world in rapid change. This article sets the scientific stage for understanding and responding to such change for global sustainability and resilient societies. We provide a systemic overview of the current situation where people and nature are dynamically intertwined and embedded in the biosphere, placing shocks and extreme events as part of this dynamic; humanity has become the major force in shaping the future of the Earth system as a whole; and the scale and pace of the human dimension have caused climate change, rapid loss of biodiversity, growing inequalities, and loss of resilience to deal with uncertainty and surprise. Taken together, human actions are challenging the biosphere foundation for a prosperous development of civilizations. The Anthropocene reality-of rising system-wide turbulence-calls for transformative change towards sustainable futures. Emerging technologies, social innovations, broader shifts in cultural repertoires, as well as a diverse portfolio of active stewardship of human actions in support of a resilient biosphere are highlighted as essential parts of such transformations.The sustainability challenges the world faces today call for concerted and immediate action. Complementing problem-oriented, descriptive-analytical research with solution-oriented research could strengthen sustainability science's contribution to address these challenges. We introduce different types of solution-oriented sustainability research to structure the discourse, outline opportunities to advance this research trajectory, and close with recommendations on how to support particularly students and early career researchers in getting involved with solution-oriented sustainability research.In this perspective, we reflect upon the question what processes may help transition scientific insights on sustainability issues into practice and thus contribute to tackling the complex, systemic sustainability problems of today? We use five forerunners in the field of providing and brokering knowledge for science informed real world solutions, all published in Ambio and highlighted in this Anniversary collection, as our starting point. We discuss how the authors present solutions, whom they tried to reach, and what was suggested-implicitly or explicitly-as the potential uptake processes for turning scientific knowledge into practice. With this as the starting point, we discuss how sustainability science, as a field vowed to action, has evolved in its views of actors, pathways for impacts, and the potential roles of research and researchers to promote sustainability transformations.
The application of [
F]FDG PET/CT in predicting histologic response to induction chemotherapy in patients with Ewing sarcoma (EWS) has been proposed using the values of pre-post treatment SUV
as a referral parameter, although with heterogeneous results. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of [
F]FDG PET/CT volumetric parameters (metabolic tumour volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG)) as compared to SUV
to predict response to chemotherapy and clinical outcome in patients with localised EWS of bone and soft-tissue.
Twenty-eight patients with non-metastatic EWS of bone (n = 20) and soft tissues (n = 8) who underwent a [
F]FDG PET/CT scan before (PET
) and after induction chemotherapy (PET
) were enclosed in the analysis. Values of PET metrics (SUV
, MTV, TLG) at diagnosis and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy as well as the percentage change between PET
and PET
(ΔSUV, ΔMTV and ΔTLG) were correlated to histological response and to progression-free su high risk of disease relapse.
• The variation of the PET parameter tumour lesion glycolysis (TLG) can predict the histologic response to induction chemotherapy (sensitivity 100%, specificity 77.8%), in patients with Ewing sarcoma. • The percentage variation of TLG and the value of the SUVmax at PET scan after chemotherapy show a prognostic role for future disease relapse. The combination of both the parameters identifies three prognostic classes of patients with low, intermediate and high risk of disease relapse.
To estimate the prevalence of acetabular rim ossifications in the adult population with asymptomatic, morphologically normal hips at CT and to determine whether the presence of these ossifications is associated with patient- or hip-related parameters.
We prospectively included all patients undergoing thoracoabdominal CT over a 3-month period. After exclusion of patients with a clinical history of hip pathology and/or with signs of osteoarthritis on CT, we included a total of 150 hips from 75 patients. We analyzed the presence and the size of ossifications around the acetabular rim. The relationships between the size of acetabular rim ossifications and patient-related (sex, age, BMI) or hip-related parameters (joint space width, and cam- and pincer-type femoroacetabular impingement morphology) were tested using multiple regression analysis.
