Nitrogen application under MZs was only reduced by 8% compared to uniform rates. The potential for MZ does exist; however, its effectiveness is highly variable.E-cigarettes are heavily advertised as healthier alternative to common tobacco cigarettes, leading more and more women to switch from regular cigarettes to ENDS (electronic nicotine delivery system) during pregnancy. While the noxious consequences of tobacco smoking during pregnancy on the offspring health are well-described, information on the long-term consequences due to maternal use of e-cigarettes do not exist so far. Therefore, we aimed to investigate how maternal e-nicotine influences offspring development from earliest life until adulthood. To this end, virgin female Drosophila melanogaster flies were exposed to nicotine vapor (8 µg nicotine) once per hour for a total of eight times. Following the last exposure, e-nicotine or sham exposed females were mated with non-exposed males. The F1-generation was then analyzed for viability, growth and airway structure. We demonstrate that maternal exposure to e-nicotine not only leads to reduced maternal fertility, but also negatively affects size and weight, as well as tracheal development of the F1-generation, lasting from embryonic stage until adulthood. These results not only underline the need for studies investigating the effects of maternal vaping on offspring health, but also propose our established model for analyzing molecular mechanisms and signaling pathways mediating these intergenerational changes.Enabling sensory feedback in limb prostheses can reverse a damaged body image caused by amputation. The rubber hand illusion (RHI) is a popular paradigm to study ownership of artificial limbs and potentially useful to assess sensory feedback strategies. We investigated the RHI as means to induce ownership of a prosthetic hand by providing congruent visual and tactile stimuli. We elicited tactile sensations via electric stimulation of severed afferent nerve fibres in four participants with transhumeral amputation. Contrary to our expectations, they failed to experience the RHI. The sensations we elicited via nerve stimulation resemble tapping as opposed to stroking, as in the original RHI. We therefore investigated the effect of tapping versus stroking in 30 able-bodied subjects. We found that either tactile modality equally induced ownership in two-thirds of the subjects. Failure to induce the RHI in the intact hand of our participants with amputation later confirmed that they form part of the RHI-immune population. Conversely, these participants use neuromusculoskeletal prostheses with neural sensory feedback in their daily lives and reported said prostheses as part of their body. Our findings suggest that people immune to the RHI can nevertheless experience ownership over prosthetic limbs when used in daily life and accentuates a significant limitation of the RHI paradigm.Subwavelength resonant elements are essential building blocks of metamaterials and metasurfaces, which have revolutionized photonics. Despite similarities between different wave phenomena, other types of interactions can make subwavelength coupling significantly distinct; its investigation in their context is therefore of interest both from the physics and applications perspective. In this work, we demonstrate a fully magnonic Gires-Tournois interferometer based on a subwavelength resonator made of a narrow ferromagnetic stripe lying above the edge of a ferromagnetic film. The bilayer formed by the stripe and the film underneath supports two propagative spin-wave modes, one strongly coupled with spin waves propagating in the rest of the film and another almost completely reflected at the ends of the bilayer. When the Fabry-Perot resonance conditions for this mode are satisfied, the weak coupling between both modes is sufficient to achieve high sensitivity of the phase of waves reflected from the resonator to the stripe width and, more interestingly, also to the stripe-film separation. Such spin-wave phase manipulation capabilities are a prerequisite for the design of spin-wave metasurfaces and may stimulate development of magnonic logic devices and sensors detecting magnetic nanoparticles. This prospective, open-label, single-arm, non-randomized clinical trial, assessed the efficacy of a 2-year treat-and-extend (T&E) regimen involving intravitreal aflibercept injection (IAI), with the longest treatment interval set to 16 weeks, and adjunct focal/grid laser in diabetic macula edema (DME) patients. We examined 40 eyes (40 adults) with fovea-involving DME from 8 Japanese centers between April 2015 and February 2017. GSK1325756 Participants received IAI with an induction period featuring monthly injections and a subsequent T&E period featuring 8-16-week injection interval, adjusted based on optical coherence tomography findings. The primary endpoints were mean changes in the best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and central subfield macular thickness (CST) from baseline. Thirty patients (75%) completed the 2-year follow-up. The mean BCVA and CST changed from 60.5 ± 15.6 letters and 499.2 ± 105.6 µm at baseline to 66.6 ± 17.1 letters (P = 0.217) and 315.2 ± 79.0 µm (P less then 0.001), respectively, after 2 years. The treatment interval was extended to 12 and 16 weeks in 6.7% and 66.7% of patients, respectively, at the end of 2 years. The T&E aflibercept regimen with the longest treatment interval set to 16 weeks, with adjunct focal/grid laser may be a rational 2-year treatment strategy for DME.Prognosis of patients with lung cancer remains extremely poor; thus, we sought to unearth novel competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks associated with the prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). Aberrant mRNAs were identified from the intersection of three Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets. A protein-protein interaction (PPI) network was constructed, and miRNAs and long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) upstream of mRNAs were predicted. In the present study, 402 upregulated and 638 downregulated genes in lung cancer tissues were identified. Functional analysis showed significant enrichment of cancer pathways. In these top hub genes, 10 upregulated and 7 downregulated genes had substantial prognostic values in LUAD. Thirty-seven miRNAs were predicted to target 17 key genes, and only five miRNAs exhibited prognostic correlation. Through stepwise reverse prediction and validation from miRNA to lncRNA, four key lncRNAs were identified using expression and survival analysis. Ultimately, the co-expression analysis identified LINC00665-miR-let-7b-CCNA2 as the key ceRNA network associated with the prognosis of LUAD.
