The degree to which the EU version of Juul with 20mg/ml nicotine (Juul EU) delivers nicotine to users is likely to determine its treatment potential.
To compare the pharmacokinetic profile and user ratings of Juul EU, Juul US (59mg/ml nicotine), cigarettes and other e-cigarette (EC) products.
In a within-subjects crossover design, 18 vapers used, at separate sessions, their own brand cigarette (OBC), Juul US and Juul EU for 5min ad libitum, after overnight abstinence. Seven of the participants also tested eight other EC previously. Blood samples were taken at baseline and 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 30min after initiating product use. Products were rated on a range of characteristics.
Juul EU delivered less nicotine than OBC (t(13) = -4.64 p< .001) and than Juul US (t(13) = -6.40, p< .001) AUC
77.3, 324.8 and 355.9, respectively. Maximum nicotine concentration (C
) was also much lower for Juul EU than Juul US (z = -3.59, p< .001) C
3.8ng/ml vs 21.1ng/ml, respectively. Juul EU was perceived to relieve urges to smoke less than Juul US (z = -2.29, p= .022) and to provide less nicotine (z = -2.57. p= 0.010). Juul EU delivered less nicotine than refillable EC (C
t(6) = 3.02, p= 0.023; AUC
z = -2.20, p= 0.028) and also less than cig-a-like EC, though the difference did not reach significance (C
t(6) = 2.49, p= 0.047; AUC
z = -1.99, p= 0.046). Subjective ratings of Juul EU and other EC products were similar.
Juul EU delivers much less nicotine to users than Juul US, and also less than refillable EC products. It may thus have more limited potential to help smokers quit.

Despite improved survival due to new treatments, the 10-year survival rate in patients with breast cancer is approximately 75%. Lymphovascular invasion (LVI), a prognostic marker independent from histological grade and stage, can only be fully determined at final histological examination. Lipid composition is deregulated in tumour via de novo lipogenesis, with alteration in lipogenic genes in LVI. We hypothesise alteration in lipid composition derived from novel non-invasive spectroscopy method is associated with LVI positivity.
Thirty female patients (age 39-78) with invasive ductal carcinoma were enrolled, with 13 LVI negative and 17 LVI positive. Saturated, monounsaturated, polyunsaturated fatty acids and triglycerides (SFA, MUFA, PUFA and TRG) were quantified from ex vivo breast tumours freshly excised from patients on a 3 T clinical MRI scanner, and proliferative activity marker Ki-67 and serotonin derived histologically.
There were significantly lower MUFA (p = 0.0189) in LVI positive (median 0.37r invasion (LVI) positive invasive breast carcinoma were significantly lower than that in LVI negative. • Triglycerides in LVI positive invasive breast carcinoma were significantly lower than that in LVI negative. • Lipid composition from MR spectroscopy reflects the rate of de novo lipogenesis and provides a potential biomarker independent from histological grade and stage.
Three QTL for resistance to leaf blast were identified on chromosomes 1, 2, and 8 of the foxtail millet cultivar Yugu 5. Leaf blast disease of foxtail millet (Setaria italica) is caused by Pyricularia spp., can infect all the aboveground parts of plants, and is the most frequently observed blast disease in China. Lack of information on genetic control of disease resistance impedes developing leaf blast-resistant cultivars. An F
recombinant inbred line (RIL) population from the cross Yugu 5 × Jigu 31 was phenotyped for its reactions to leaf blast in six field trials in the naturally diseased nurseries. An ultra-density genetic linkage map was constructed using 35,065 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers generated by sequencing of the RIL population. Three QTL, QLB-czas1, QLB-czas2, and QLB-cazas8, were detected in the genomic intervals of 276.6kb, 1.62Mb, and 1.75Mb on chromosomes 1, 2, and 8 of Yugu 5, which explained 14-17% (2 environments), 9% (5 environments), and 12-20% (6 environments) of theear to be new loci conferring resistance to leaf blast. The identification of these new resistance QTL will be useful in cultivar development and the study of the genetic control of blast resistance in foxtail millet.
The goal was to study the effects of early cervical headgear treatment on maxillary and mandibular dental arch area, shape and interarch dimensions.
The total study group comprised 67children aged 7.6years (standard deviation 0.3) with Angle classII malocclusion collected between 1992 and 1996. The children were randomly divided into two groups of equal size. In the first group, cervical headgear treatment was started immediately and undertaken for 2years. The remaining patients served as untreated controls. Lenalidomide Dental casts were taken and scanned at the beginning of treatment (T0) and at the 2‑year (T1) and 4‑year follow-up (T2). Three-dimensional landmarks describing the positions of maxillary and mandibular incisors, canines, first and second premolars and first molars were used to calculate and visualize the maxillary and mandibular dental arch area and shape using the polynomial equation y = Ax
+ Bx
.
Significant changes in the shape and area of both maxillary and mandibular dental arches were induced with cervical headgear. The headgear increased dental arch area, sagittal dimensions at the mid-sagittal line and transversal dimensions at all of the measured levels in both dental arches compared to the control group.
Cervical headgear is an effective treatment device to gain space in both dental arches. Furthermore, when used as an early phase treatment, relapse is relatively small compared to the gained space.

These data demonstrate that healthy younger adults can develop severe COVID-19.
