Methods 650 stool samples were screened for carbapenem-resistant K. pneumoniae (CR-Kp). All strains were characterized for antibiotic susceptibility, typing features, main carbapenemases and extended-spectrum ß-lactamases. Materials & methods We analyzed real-time PCR results of 10,000 samples from 2 April to 30 May 2020 in three neighbor cities located in the East of Turkey. The effects were analyzed by monitoring their phenotypic characteristics, cytokine profile, and the ability to direct the immune response in the co-culture with allogeneic CD4+T cells. Gal-1 reduced the expression of CD80 and CD86 molecules on MoDCs compared to untreated MoDCs. Gal-1 at concentrations of 1 and 6 μg/mL significantly reduced IL-12 production, while the concentration of 3 μg/mL led to its significant increase. Gal-1 in all concentrations induced a significant increase in the production of IL-10. Treatment of MoDCs with 3 and 6 μg/mL of Gal-1 stimulated the production of IL-2 and IFN-γ in the co-culture with CD4+T lymphocytes. This study demonstrated a dual immunomodulatory effect of Gal-1 on MoDCs in terms of immune stimulation and immune suppression, depending on the applied concentration.Schools often provide medication management to children at school, yet, most U.S. schools lack a full-time, licensed nurse. Schools rely heavily on unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP) to perform such tasks. This systematic review examined medication management among K-12 school nurses. Keyword searches in three databases were performed. We included studies that examined (a) K-12 charter, private/parochial, or public schools, (b) UAPs and licensed nurses, (c) policies and practices for medication management, or (d) nurse delegation laws. Three concepts were synthesized (a) level of training, (b) nurse delegation, and (c) emergency medications. One-hundred twelve articles were screened. Of these, 37.5% (42/112) were comprehensively reviewed. Eighty-one percent discussed level of training, 69% nurse delegation, and 57% emergency medications. Succinct and consistent policies within and across the United States aimed at increasing access to emergency medications in schools remain necessary.
