Abnormal long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) expression has been documented to have oncogene or tumor suppressor functions in the development and progression of cancer, emerging as promising independent biomarkers for molecular cancer stratification and patients' prognosis. Examining the relationship between lncRNAs and the survival rates in malignancies creates new scenarios for precision medicine and targeted therapy. Breast cancer (BRCA) is a heterogeneous malignancy. Despite advances in its molecular classification, there are still gaps to explain in its multifaceted presentations and a substantial lack of biomarkers that can better predict patients' prognosis in response to different therapeutic strategies. Here, we performed a re-analysis of gene expression data generated using cDNA microarrays in a previous study of our group, aiming to identify differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELncRNAs) with a potential predictive value for response to treatment with taxanes in breast cancer patients. Results revealed 157 DELncRNAs (90 up- and 67 down-regulated). We validated these new biomarkers as having prognostic and predictive value for breast cancer using in silico analysis in public databases. Data from TCGA showed that compared to normal tissue, MIAT was up-regulated, while KCNQ1OT1, LOC100270804, and FLJ10038 were down-regulated in breast tumor tissues. KCNQ1OT1, LOC100270804, and FLJ10038 median levels were found to be significantly higher in the luminal subtype. The ROC plotter platform results showed that reduced expression of these three DElncRNAs was associated with breast cancer patients who did not respond to taxane treatment. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed that a lower expression of the selected lncRNAs was significantly associated with worse relapse-free survival (RFS) in breast cancer patients. Further validation of the expression of these DELncRNAs might be helpful to better tailor breast cancer prognosis and treatment.Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a bioactive lipid mediator primarily derived from membrane phospholipids. LPA initiates cellular effects upon binding to a family of G protein-coupled receptors, termed LPA receptors (LPAR1 to LPAR6). LPA signaling drives cell migration and proliferation, cytokine production, thrombosis, fibrosis, angiogenesis, and lymphangiogenesis. Since the expression and function of LPA receptors are critical for cellular effects, selective antagonists may represent a potential treatment for a broad range of illnesses, such as cardiovascular diseases, idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, voiding dysfunctions, and various types of cancers. More new LPA receptor antagonists have shown their therapeutic potentials, although most are still in the preclinical trial stage. This review provided integrative information and summarized preclinical findings and recent clinical trials of different LPA receptor antagonists in cancer progression and resistance. Targeting LPA receptors can have potential applications in clinical patients with various diseases, including cancer.For the Mediterranean region, climate models predict an acceleration of desertification processes, thus threatening agriculture. The present work aimed to investigate the effect of drought and salinity on Sulla coronaria (L.) Medik., a Mediterranean forage legume, for understanding plant defence systems activated by these stressors. In detail, we focused our attention on the variations on the plant redox status. Plants were subjected to suboptimal watering and irrigation with sodium chloride (NaCl) solutions. selleck The same salt treatment was applied for in vitro tests on seedlings. Water content did not change after treatments. Salt negatively influenced seed germination and seedling development, but it did not affect photosynthesis parameters, contrary to what was observed in adult plants. Proline concentration increased in all samples, while abscisic acid level increased exclusively in seedlings. NaCl caused accumulation of superoxide anion in plants and seedlings and hydrogen peroxide only in seedlings; nevertheless, lipid peroxidation was not detected. Total phenolics, glutathione, expression level, and activity of antioxidant enzymes were assayed, revealing a complex antiradical molecular response, depending on the type of stress and development stage. Our results confirm Sulla as a drought- and salt-tolerant species and highlight its ability to counteract oxidative stress. This evidence suggests a key role for the redox components, as signal transduction messengers, in Sulla acclimation to desertification. Finally, plants and seedlings showed different acclimation capacity to salinity, revealing a greater genomic plasticity for seedlings.Nursery schools can play an important role in children developing healthy eating behaviours, including vegetable consumption. However, the effect of school-level vegetable promotion on vegetable consumption and body mass index (BMI) remains unclear. This study examined the associations of nursery school-level promotion of eating vegetables first at meals with Japanese children's vegetable consumption behaviours and BMI. We used cross-sectional data collected in 2015, 2016, and 2017 on 7402 children in classes of 3-5-year-olds in all 133 licensed nursery schools in Adachi, Tokyo, Japan. Caregivers were surveyed on their children's eating behaviours (frequency of eating vegetables, willingness to eat vegetables and number of kinds of vegetables eaten), height and weight. Nursery school-level promotion of eating vegetables first at meals was assessed using individual responses, with the percentage of caregivers reporting that their children ate vegetables first at meals as a proxy for the school-level penetration of the promotion of vegetable eating. Multilevel analyses were conducted to investigate the associations of school-level vegetable-eating promotion with vegetable consumption behaviours and BMI. Children in schools that were 1 interquartile range higher on vegetable promotion ate vegetable dishes more often (β = 0.04; 95% CI 0.004-0.07), and were more often willing to eat vegetables (adjusted odds ratio = 1.17; 95% CI 1.07-1.28), as well as to eat more kinds of vegetables (adjusted odds ratio = 1.19 times; 95% CI 1.06-1.34). School-level vegetable-eating promotion was not associated with BMI. The school-level health strategy of eating vegetables first may be effective in increasing children's vegetable intake but not in preventing being overweight.
