This review showed that parenting is a process that requires restructuring in the face of cancer. After cancer diagnosis, requirements connected to the illness and its treatments are imposed on previous family life duties.Aim The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine which functional tests are able to predict falls in nursing home residents (NHR) and community-dwelling (CDW) older adults grouped by age. Methods Two hundred and fifty-two older adults were assessed in the following tests, Mini-Mental State Examination, anthropometric characteristics, fall history and functional tests. The participants were assigned to one of the following groups Young Older Adults (YOA; 60-69 years, n = 102; 27.5% NHR), Old Older Adults (OOA; 70-79 years; n = 100; 23.5% NHR) and Very Older Adults (VOA, ≥80 years; n = 50; 52% NHR). Results The five times sit-to-stand showed 1.41 odds to experience a fall in the NHR of the VOA. In the CDW, the handgrip strength score decreased the odds to fall occurrence (0.92 odds) in the YOA, while the low score in timed up and go test of the OOA showed 1.21 odds to experience a fall. Conclusions Therefore, the five times sit-to-stand test can predict falls in NHR of VOA groups, while handgrip strength and timed up and go tests can predict falls in CDW of YOA and OOA groups, respectively.
The Over-The-Scope Clip (OTSC) can effectively treat refractory gastrointestinal diseases. However, most reports have focused on short-term effectiveness. We examined clinical outcomes of the deployed clips and long-term characteristics.
Of 47 patients with OTSC treatment, 35 with follow-up periods of ≥3 months were retrospectively examined. SH-4-54 STAT inhibitor The indications were 11 bleedings, 17 perforations, and seven fistulas. The observation period was defined as medium-term (3 to <12 months) or long-term (≥12 months). The primary outcome was the clinical success rate without disease recurrence. The secondary outcomes were the complication rate, survival duration, and clip retention rate.
The medium- and long-term clinical success rates were 100% during the observation period (median, 44 months; range, 3-78 months). The complication rate was 2.9% (
= 1). The median survival time was 1,634 days for bleeding, 1,757 days for perforation, and 444 days for fistulas. The overall clip retention rates were 56.4%, 38.1%, 30.9%, and 25.9% after one, six, and 12 months and at the final follow-up, respectively. The average clip retention duration was 244 days in bleeding, 656 days in perforations, and 188 days in fistulas.
Regardless of clip detachment, the OTSC can be effective in long-term.
Regardless of clip detachment, the OTSC can be effective in long-term.This systematic review with meta-analysis (SRMA) was conducted to assess the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) programmes on men soccer players' aerobic fitness (maximal oxygen uptake and aerobic performance), repeated sprint ability (RSA), vertical jump height (VJH), and linear sprinting time (ST). An electronic search yielded 1,714 articles, 33 of which were included in the present study. Meta-analyses revealed significant benefits of HIIT compared to controls in maximal oxygen uptake (p = 0.018), AP (p = 0.041), and RSA (p = 0.049). No significant effects were found in terms of ST (p = 0.080). The meta-analyses of non-controlled studies revealed significant improvements after HIIT in maximal oxygen uptake (p = 0.001), AP (p = 0.007), RSA (p = 0.001), and ST (p less then 0.001). However, no significant improvements in VHJ were found (p = 0.063). Furthermore, no significant differences were found in sub-group analysis (comparisons between HIIT types). In conclusion, HIIT is effective for improving maximal oxygen uptake, AP, and RSA regardless of the HIIT type. For VHJ and ST outcomes, it seems reasonable to complement the HIIT since it might not be enough to achieve significant changes.Since the outbreak of the SARS epidemic in 2003, the Chinese government has increased inputs to bolster the health care system. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the geographic maldistribution of health resources in China. We examine the spatial and temporal variation of the SARS epidemic using a difference-in-differences strategy. Our empirical results show that, compared with cities without SARS case reports, exogenous health shocks significantly increased the affected cities' medical resources supply. We provide multiple robustness tests to examine the validity of the main findings. Further study shows that the mechanism is because the SARS event increased the financial autonomy of the epidemic-affected cities, thus providing an incentive for local governments to increase health resources. Meanwhile, health shocks have little influence on the regions with only imported cases than the infected area. These findings provide a possible explanation for the inequality in the distribution of health resources. The increasing number of older adults in society is becoming a major social focus. The article discusses demographic changes in Polish society in the context of the role played by the educational institution known as the University of the Third Age. Although implementing the idea of lifelong learning, such institutions constitute an important space allowing participants to experience life more fully by improving its quality. The information in this article can be used by other countries to organize education for older adults. The present study examined the metabolic responses to an acute bout of football and the overall and moderating role of physical fitness on these responses, in adolescents. Thirty-six adolescents (16 girls, 20 boys; 12.6±0.5 y) completed two trials (60-min football and 60-min seated rest) separated by 7-d. Capillary blood samples were taken at baseline (60-min prior to exercise/rest), immediately, 30- and 60-min post-exercise and 30-, 60- and 120-min following a standardised lunch (1.5-, 2- and 3-h post-exercise), for the determination of blood glucose and plasma insulin concentrations. The median split of distance covered on the multi-stage fitness test was used to define high- and low-fit groups. Overall plasma insulin tAUC following lunch was lower in high-fit participants compared to low-fit (high-fit 3784.2±1653.1 pmol·L-1x120min, low-fit 6457.3±3290.7 pmol·L-1x120min; p0.05). These data emphasise the importance of physical fitness for metabolic health in adolescents, as well as the utility of football as a popular form of games-based activity for improving glucose regulation.
