Young people transition to adulthood via diverse pathways; among the most significant are those dominated by education, employment, or social disadvantage. These pathways are determined, to a large extent, by the level of well-being and autonomy young people develop to help them face their own realities. The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between young people's psychological well-being and autonomy - key factors in the transition to adulthood - and the relationship these factors have with the main pathways followed during transition. To this end, Ryff's Model of Psychological Well-being and the Transition to Adulthood Autonomy Scale (EDATVA) were used to evaluate a total of 1148 Spanish and Colombian subjects aged between 16 and 21. Correlations and differences between scores were subsequently analyzed. Four experiments were designed to compare the perceived causality and force of one of the two objects on the other by changing the property of one or both of the objects involved in the launching effect. Our results support causal asymmetry and force asymmetry, in which the launcher has a greater causal effect and exerts more force on the target. Furthermore, we also found that, the ecological object, which is the airplane in this study, had a greater causal effect and exerted more force, resulting in strengthened asymmetries when the airplane acted as the launcher and weakened asymmetries when the airplane acted as the target. The properties of the object also impacted causal perception by attenuating the effect of the temporal gap on causality. Those results indicate that the airplane is perceived as the main cause for a collision compared with an abstract object. The influence of conceptual knowledge of the object and the sense of agency on changing the degree of perceived causality and force in a particular motion pattern was discussed.In real-world scenarios, objects' surface features sometimes change as they move, impairing the continuity of objects. However, it is still unknown how our visual system adapts to this dynamic change. Hence, the present study investigated the role of feature changes in attentive tracking through a modified multiple object tracking (MOT) task. The feature heterogeneity and feature stability were manipulated in two experiments. The results from Experiment 1 showed that the tracking performance under feature-changed condition was lower than that under the feature-fixed condition only when the objects were four colors grouped or all unique, suggesting that the performance decrease was moderated by the feature heterogeneity. In Experiment 2, we further examined this effect by manipulating the frequency of feature change. The results showed that when the target set was one color or two colors grouped (the color grouping for the distractor set corresponded with it), the tracking performance decreased significantly as the feature-change frequency increased. However, this trend was not the case when the objects were of the same color or eight unique colors. In addition, a relatively consistent effect appeared both in Experiments 1 and 2. When objects have unique features, the tracking performance decreased significantly as the increase of feature heterogeneity in each frequency of feature changes. Taken together, we concluded that unstable features could be utilized in attentive tracking, and the extent to which the observers relied on surface feature information to assist tracking depended on the level of feature heterogeneity and the frequency of feature change.Acquiring a second language (L2) has the power to shape cognition and even the function and structure of the brain. Picture-book reading with additive audio (PRA) is a popular and convenient means of providing L2 exposure for non-balanced bilingual children; however, its contribution to bilingual children's brain activity is unclear. This study conducted a rigorous bilingual word comprehension experiment and a naturalistic PRA task to explore the effect of L2 processing on brain activation among English as a foreign language (EFL) preschoolers, using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). We found that the two contexts of comprehending English words and bilingual switching (BS), which impose more cognitive control demands, activated the prefrontal cortex (PFC) more than did the condition of comprehending Chinese words. Furthermore, the effect of PFC activity in the condition of picture-book reading with additive English audio (English PRA) was also found to be greater than in the condition of picture-book reading with additive Chinese audio (Chinese PRA); moreover, the effect was modulated by story difficulty. Finally, a positive correlation was shown between EFL children's English competence and PFC activation through English PRA. This study indicates that the experiences of hearing L2 auditory stories in a picture-book reading activity yielded significant changes to early bilinguals' PFC functional for cognitive control and language processing.Patients suffering from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may have some form of affective disorders that may worsen their symptoms.
