As a minimally invasive technique, video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) represents an important element of enhanced recovery program in thoracic surgery as it can achieve most of its goals. Anaesthetic management during preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative period is essential for the establishment of a successful enhanced recovery program. In the era of enhanced recovery protocols, non-intubated thoracoscopic procedures present a step forward. This article focuses on the key anaesthetic elements of the enhanced recovery program during all phases of thoracoscopic surgery. Having reviewed recent literature, a systematic review of literature will highlight successful ERAS protocols published for thoracoscopic surgery.
The mounting of the plaster casts on articulator procedure is routinely performed in orthognathic surgery to assess canting of the maxillary occlusal plane, but the currently used protocols and reference plane could be source of errors which affect reliability. Nowadays the assessment of canting of the maxillary occlusal plane could be also performed with an entirely digital protocol. Aim of the study was to propose a method to evaluate canting in patients affected by Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia, comparing the measurements performed on digital models matched on CBCT with those made on traditional articulator.

A retrospective cross-sectional study was designed on 20 patients affected by vertical Unilateral Condylar Hyperplasia treated in the Units of Orthodontics and Maxillo-Facial Surgery. The canting of the maxillary occlusal plane was measured on plaster casts mounted on the conventional articulator and the measures were compared with those made on digital models matched on CBCT, according the protocol developed in our Unit. Molar, canine and basal difference were measured. To compare the two protocols and to test the agreement, we performed descriptive statistics, comparison between means and Bland Altman analysis. P value was set at 0.05.

In this study, volatile batch acid (VFA) tests were employed to investigate the acidification inhibition, biodechlorination, and biotransformation of high-strength CALs on hydrolytic acidification. The results indicated that the optimum parameters were 4 g/L sludge, pH = 8, and glucose as an electron donor. Moreover, the acidification inhibition and biodechlorination showed a strongly positive correlation with the degree of chlorination and CAL concentrations. Furthermore, Excitation-Emission-Matrix (EEM) spectra of EPS revealed that aromatic protein-like substances I interacted with CALs to achieve a slight removal of CALs. The detected products revealed that some of the chlorine atoms and aldehyde groups in the CALs were removed by microbes to certain degree. Moreover, microbial community analysis indicated that the dominant phyla were Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and Synergistetes, which had a stronger tolerance to CALs. Notably, biodechlorination was closely related to a remarkable increase in members of the genus Trichococcus.Landscape urbanization broadly alter watersheds ecosystems, yet the impact of nonpoint source urban inputs on dissolved organic matter (DOM) amount, composition and source is poorly understood. To systematically examine how DOM optical index and composition varied with urbanization, a unique long term observation dataset (4 years) of fluorescence excitation emission matrices (EEMs) was collected from two types of waters urban waters and non-urban waters. Two humic-like DOM fluorescent components (C1 and C2) and one protein-like component (C3) were identified by parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC), and the results indicated that urbanization had an important influence on DOM concentration and composition, with urban waters having a high degree of DOM variation due to different land use surrounding each body of water. Urban waters presented higher DOM content, CDOM absorption and DOM fluorescence intensity (FI), a greater proportion of protein-like (26% > 21.3%), and less proportion of humic-like (51.9% less then 57.6%) than non-urban waters, were dominated by allochthonous inputs. Moreover, the long-term observation of the urbanized DOM's dynamics was conducted on monthly, seasonal and yearly timescales. The results reflected the response of DOM to regional climate. Higher DOM amount and FI appeared in the summer due to autochthonous production comes from algae growth and allochthonous input comes from rainfall. It also revealed that continuous increase in impervious artificial surfaces caused by urban expansion, contributed to the increase in DOM quantity and drove DOM composition to be more protein-like. Consequently, these findings filled the knowledge gap of the mechanism of land-water interaction on DOM properties in freshwater ecosystems.The human milk monitoring component of the global monitoring plan under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants was implemented from 2016 to 2019 and had 44 human milk samples from primiparae collected in 42 countries and analyzed for perfluoroalkane substances (PFAS), at the MTM Research Centre at Örebro University, Sweden. The targeted compounds were restricted to the two listed PFAS (perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, PFOS and perfluorooctane carboxylic acid, PFOA) and the one recommended PFAS (perfluorohexane sulfonic acid, PFHxS).
